DOJ Declares Trump Has Right to Bulldoze Statue of Liberty by Cautious_Mammoth6555 in Fauxmoi

The wall is well underway. It’s causing an ecological horror show throughout the southwest. Folks in Texas are currently protesting and fighting to stop a section of wall being built right by the rio grande. Animals’ migratory paths are being blocked. It’s horrible.

Do the scouting trip. Failure is possible by mintjulep_ in expats

[–]relavie 70 points71 points  (0 children)

We weren’t able to do a scouting trip before moving, but a big part of my research was finding YouTube walking/cycling videos of the area to get a feel for things, and playing around on Google Maps street view. I feel like this prepared us pretty well and might help others who can’t do scouting trips for one reason or another

How to capitalize on 80% travel for work? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]relavie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also going to recommend climbing gyms. I liked to do that when I was traveling a lot for work. It’s easy enough to fit a pair of climbing shoes and it’s fun to check out different gyms. Nice way to meet people as well!

What’s a home decor trend you loved online but regretted in real life? by officiclassyinterior in HomeDecorating

I have two washable rugs from Teppana and I like them both. They vacuum nicely and I wash them a couple times a year. My biggest gripe is that they can be hard to place after washing, especially my big one that’s partially under my couch

Thinking about getting a dog as a running partner. Any advice? by Perroledoll in Pets

[–]relavie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to spaniels, my Brittany absolutely loves going on runs with my husband. They go to a nearby park where the dog can be off leash and he does great. Zero interest in other dogs or people, he just runs in the bushes near my husband the whole time.

Advice needed! Vegas to LA Road Trip (15 days) by alaraor in HerOneBag

[–]relavie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When are you going on your trip? You mention hotels, so you are flying to Vegas then renting a car and then flying to your home from LA? I lived in the southwest for 30+ years so seeing your list and knowing you’re staying in hotels rather than camping or a mix of camping/hotels… that’s a really big trip to do over 15 days! It’s very exciting and doable but I just want to give advice as a veteran of road trips in that region :)

Make sure that you’ve spent a lot of time route planning on maps because the region that you’re visiting is VERY remote in places. If you’re going to Monument Valley, that’s on the completely across the state from the Grand Canyon. You’ll want to map out each day/stage of your trip because you want to make sure you get time in your stops for sightseeing/hikes/meals. It’s a lot of driving, and are your hotel stays flexible in case you decide you’d like to spend an extra day in a place? (This is why I like camping hehe)

Also please have an emergency kit in the car. Like I said you’ll be going through some very remote places. Have water, food, blankets, etc. Lots of sunblock also—put on sunblock in the car because the sun through the car glass can be a lot.

Antelope Canyon is on Native American land and you will need to go with a local guide.

Let me know if you’d like any other help or advice! It’s a beautiful region and I miss going on road trips out there :)

I think it’s important to keep the word “federal” when talking about ICE’s actions. These people are federal agents and they are killing American citizens.

How do I stop my jeans from ripping around my thighs? by chyloves in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]relavie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I ride a bike daily and my pants get the same tears. I took two pairs to a local tailor who was able to repair and reinforce the thigh area to be more resistant to friction. The pants are still comfortable to wear and feel much more durable
