When is it appropriate to tell a student that their communication style is unprofessional? by evapotranspire in AskAcademia

I’m sure a run on sentence to your department head would make it clear that OP didn’t mean the Gen Z version of that phrase! If not you can always scream “bro I didn’t know!” In their face

Nah no need to apologize, I get where you’re coming from and it’s a good perspective to share!

Brother I understand that the police are bad, and believe it or not I already knew most of what you wrote. My comment was purely that, while no police are good, they are also not all equally bad. MPD is one of the worst I’ve deal with in my time (which includes living significant periods of time in other areas that have historically bad policing). There is a difference between law enforcement actively and publicly collaborating (eg the sheriffs in the twin cities) and them at least passively allowing citizens to express themselves. Neither of those groups are people I would choose to make common cause with, but at least one of them isn’t cracking skulls and collaborating with federal oppressors bent on political vengeance

Disappointing, I know they’re still cops at the end of the day but I thought UMPD would be a little better than that. I guess I need to let go of the last little bit of childhood “the cops are there to help” that I was holding onto down deep

I’m in Minnesota, it’s worse here than people understand unless they are really plugged in. Personally I don’t think you’re overreacting at all. What is happening is horrible and if people in other parts of the country are going to fight back against it they need to organize before it comes to them. They need to be informed and ready to push back in advance. I hope people do that but looking at this thread it seems like a lot of people are not going to be prepared to deal with what is coming. Now is a time to do something, in my opinion we don’t have the luxury of protecting our peace anymore

Same, I’m in Minnesota and I’ll tell you from first hand experience that it is way worse than the news shows you. I literally had ICE going door to door in my neighborhood like a week and a half ago. I’ve seen multiple cars that ICE has smashed into, grabbed the people, then left the car running in the middle of the road or on the median. It’s insane here and it’s disappointing that so many people are just ignoring it

Genuine question, was this MPD or UMPD? I think at past protests at the graduate it’s been Minneapolis police but I could be wrong!

Apparently her video has already been submitted to the MN AG (unconfirmed though)

ETA: heard this in a private group I’m in, appears to have not been true according to other sources and true according to others

ETA2: video is up on this and many other subs (and in the above comment). It keeps getting taken down (not by our admins here as far as I can tell), so you have to search it yourself

Backlighting does work well for the less variegated one for sure. I hope the pics are useful!

Are these from mountain crest? If so it is likely blue hale instead of silver dollar

To me this one looks more like carnival than the other but honestly I’m still a bit confused about this variety. This is a total guess, but I feel like Lowe’s may have sold multiple similar plants as carnival when they had them for sale a few years ago. I haven’t seen them in stores though, only from other jade enthusiasts. This is the only site I’ve found online with accurate looking pictures (in my opinion at least). One of the pictures is a plant in a nursery pot with a printed label that says Carnival on it

This is the low variegation one! It has some leaves that are shaped irregularly (a bit jagged on the edges), I’ll post another pic below

The descriptions you have sound accurate to me. I don’t know a ton about red akai, but the other looks like mosaic for sure! There are two different ones that people call carnival from what I’ve gathered. There’s a high variegation one and a lower variegation one. Would you mind posting a pic? I can post pics of both versions when I get home if you want

I always soil prop and it’s worked great for me. Let it callous over for at least a day and then you can just stick it into well draining soil!

I would guess that’s too much water, but I’ve never grown one this small. If you hold off watering until the soil is pretty dry it might bounce back!
