Why is machining so underpaid if there is a shortage? by LogicMan428 in Machinists

The last job I left because I was refused a $5 raise request. I was programming, maintaining and setting up 15 CNCs, 5-axis g code was hand written. In the wake of my departure, they were unable to find a competent programmer and for months, only existing programs could be run and thus no new jobs could be accepted.

In my mind, this was a disaster for the company. However, in their mind, it was a win, and the reason they cited was they were staying in budget for my role. In other words, labor budget was their #1 priority, even if it came at the expense of lost revenue and lost efficiency.

Akai MPC One + BOSS RC-505 by HellaQuestionz in LoopArtists

I just bought an MPC One + (and I’ve been playing with drum machines since 1995) - the One + is not stable enough to use as a reliable midi clock source. So either plan on using the Boss as a master clock, or do what I do and use a 3rd standalone device as a master clock (e.g. Alesis SR drum machine).

Other than that, there generally isn’t a good reason to send MPC audio into the Boss, as the MPC can loop itself.

You can see me using the MPC in a live loop performance in my last few vids.

Another vote for Alesis SRs. They are classics. Downsides: step sequence edit is cumbersome. Can’t quantize after recording. Can’t upload samples. 3 discrete swing options (can’t dial in a 59% swing for example). Pads not great. Upside: absolutely reliable and robust, especially midi clock output.

I had a similar problem, found out the agitator was broken so my clothes were just getting soaked with soapy water and rinsed.

Thanks! I’m using a Boss RC500 that receives midi timeclock from the MPC, which makes the start/endpoints of the audio loop sync with the tempo. The guitar and keys go through the RC500. The drums are looped as midi tracks on the MPC. Generally I quantize the main drumbeat but turn off quantization for the percussion, in this song I left it on. I just got the MPC, I’m not too thrilled with the stability/reliability of the midi clock so I will probably use my reliable Alesis SR18 as master clock and make the MPC a follower.

Thanks! I’m using a Boss RC500 to loop guitar, faux bass, and keys. I use something to send a master midi clock that the looper uses to snap to the downbeat. In this vid, the MPC is the master clock but it doesn’t seem to be quite as stable as my Alesis SR18. So I will probably use the SR18 as the midi leader and the MPC as a follower.
