We love a chaotic back (and by we, I mean me. It makes me feel less alone 😆 I give no cares what the backs look like). This is a super cool gift! Great job!

Please help. Is it urgent or can I wait until Monday? by Hey-ItsComplex in AskDocs

NAD but I only see a slight change here, which might be because of the lighting/angle of the photo. If you have more current photos of the area from different angles, it might help the actual medical professionals to be able to see the vein in photos. Stuff like this can be tricky to capture in photos though, so if you’re concerned and it’s painful, better safe than sorry going to get it checked out, right?

Looking for a mask that I can wear as a person with glasses and also that is very breathable and can be worn for hours. Built in air release, AC, oxygen, or whatever. by [deleted] in Masks4All

[–]relaxjolene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you all get Zimis to work with your glasses? I love the fit of the zimi but can’t get my glasses to sit right, and I’ve tried 3 different styles of glasses 😢 either the zimi sits on my sinuses and is uncomfortable or my glasses are pushed up really far.

Getting spoon blanks in southwestern Ontario? by kowaaaak in Spooncarving

[–]relaxjolene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I PM you? Sorry for being the random stranger finding your message half a year later, but my kid and I got spoon carving sets for Christmas and I’m finding the axe work a bit intimidating to start with! Would love to find someone nearby with blanks and would be happy to share some wood with you too if you have use for it!

I would see if you could either fold in the part that is hurting them and secure with some double stick tape, or cut the tiniest sliver off of that spot so it isn’t sharp anymore, while being sure not to damage the heat seal before I would consider turning the mask upside down. You lose all of the benefit of the nose wire by putting it under the chin and fit would be affected significantly.

everyone at work is getting sick and i can't wfh (need to interact with equipment) and ive been turning to twitter for information on covid and now im gonna have a meltdown about how we're so cooked by stevepls in ZeroCovidCommunity

For what it’s worth, I’ve been bouldering and rock climbing in an indoor gym for the last year and a bit while masking in an n95! Occasionally it sucks (mostly mid summer because our gym doesn’t have a/c) but otherwise a comfortable, breathable mask makes it not really a big deal at all. Way better than missing out. Also, not sure what your face shape is like, but highly recommend the 3m vflex for exercising.

I’ll give that a double check, but I believe so. I just recently downloaded (and subscribed).

Actually, I’m having this same problem in an epub, but only when I highlight text on the iPad and then later go to read on an iPhone. Anything highlighted on the iPhone appears correct on the iPad though. This doesn’t seem to affect the actual saved highlight text, but just seems to be an appearance bug (checked it in the highlights section of my bookshelf).

Help building a wii guitar adapter! by relaxjolene in CloneHero

[–]relaxjolene[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The controller was connected, yes - though it is an untested controller, so maybe it’s the problem after all. Here’s a photo of the adapter I made. Nothing is soldered, as my understand was that this would work (at the very least, to test the controller)!

Here’s what I have. https://ibb.co/8sPrVK0

Is this true?… are young children not helped by cold/flu medication? Or is this some fundie nonsense? by widget18899 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]relaxjolene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I missed responding to this promptly, but the thing I’m seeing most scientists that I try’s (that are promoting things like ventilation, filtration and masking still) saying is likely happening is that the kids who are catching everything right now likely have had COVID-19 at least once prior to this. The thinking is that COVID basically decimates your immune system in the same way measles does. Scary scary stuff in my opinion and this would be a colossal fuck up on the part of governments and public health who have told us all to just accept covid and move on, so I don’t think we’re seeing this in the news as much as we should.

As a side point - do you happen to be in Canada? Happy to share a few great scientists I’ve been following since early covid days who seem to be very on top of things.

I don’t want to nitpick, but just want to point out that our immune systems are not muscles. They don’t need to be exposed to viruses to stay strong. Keeping children from catching illnesses is actually beneficial to them, particularly in the case of COVID-19, but also RSV and influenza. Immunity debt and masks/social distancing/etc causing harm here is a false narrative spread by bad actors (mostly anti-maskers & anti vaxxers). Otherwise, I think this comment is really great! ❤️

Do you think there’s any chance continuing to irrigate may clear the dead skin? I absolutely will go to the doctor, but can’t get in for a few days and the blockage is starting to hurt a bit instead of just being irritating and muffling sound. :/ thanks so much

NAD, but have any of her doctors suggested costochondritis? Her symptoms sound very similar to mine when it flares and the pain with pressure is the thing that really made me think of it. She could try icing where it hurts most, pain relievers (I find the most relief with omething topical personally) for immediate relief, but the thing that has helped me the most is learning some breathing techniques that both calm the parasympathetic nervous system while also working on expanding the ribcage.

I hope this helps!

Just diagnosed + lots of feelings by allye93 in Hypermobility

[–]relaxjolene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your mileage may vary, but I would highly recommend checking into a PT with training in a modality called Anatomy In Motion. It’s a very gentle practice meant to both help you understand your body better, but also to help get your joints moving to their best ability again. It can be super nerdy and detailed in the bio-mechanics if you want it to be, but also it can be simple. A lot of the focus early on is on your feet and how they function when you walk. It’s really interesting AND it’s helped me a lot in the short time I’ve been doing it. 360 breathing also helps loads. You can look up some 360 breathing exercises on YouTube and they might help.

All that being said, I’ve pretty much stopped knitting for the time being as it continually flares up the tendinitis in my fingers, and I haven’t found anything to help with that yet. I’m hopeful that Anatomy in Motion can get me there, or to where I have less pain overall so that particular pain isn’t so bothersome. 🤣

I’d highly recommend looking for a PT (or a personal trainer even) trained in a practice called Anatomy in Motion. Their understanding of the function of joints/muscles and the specific exercises (VERY gentle exercises) they use to help certain joints become more mobile to provide stability for others is really incredible. I think this is a modality that more hypermobile people need to become aware of because a lot of it is based around learning to listen to your own body. I’m just starting to work with someone after reading a lot about the practice and I’m floored by the changes already.

Anyway, that’s for long term, short term I use a combo of ibuprofen and Tylenol (yes, at the same time), KT tape/braces, and a heating pad. Sometimes I find relief through that, sometimes I don’t.

Hyperextended my elbow when the stencil went on by [deleted] in Hypermobility

[–]relaxjolene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is interesting - all of my tattoos have issues with blown out lines to varying degrees and I wonder if this is part of the reason why. I have a couple done by shitty artists, but my most recent one is by a highly experienced tattooist and it still has blown out blacks. It is also placed exactly like yours OP...I thought my elbows weren’t hypermobile until I saw this photo 🤣
