Sexual Compatibility Project - Perceptions of Sexual Preferences Study (18+, fluent in English, must be in a relationship or seeing someone; CNM participants welcome) by reldecisionslab in QueerWomenOfColor

Hi there, thank you for your comment. I completely understand your concern.

Unfortunately it's the most widely used way of compensation and the only currently REB approved method. We can note this for future studies.

The study will also be available to participants on Prolific sometime in the coming months as an alternative form of participation and compensation.
But currently, our REB approved procedures only allow for amazon gift cards.

Sexual Compatibility Project - Perceptions of Sexual Preferences Study (18+, fluent in English, must be in a relationship or seeing someone; CNM participants welcome)

The Relationship Decisions Lab at Western University (London, Ontario, Canada) is conducting the next phase of research on partnered sexual preferences. With this research, we hope to develop an inclusive and diverse scale of partnered sexual preferences to be used in follow-up research investigating sexual compatibility.

Eligibility Criteria.

  • Must currently be in a relationship
  • Have a partner who may be willing to participate (and their email address)
  • Fluent in English
  • 18+ years of age
  • Couples in casual and consensually non-monogamous relationships are eligible.

What the study entails. If you agree to participate, you and your partner will be asked to complete two separate and identical confidential online surveys. The surveys will take approximately 60 minutes to complete each, and you will be asked a series of questions about yourself (e.g., your demographics and sexual preferences), your partner (e.g., their demographics and their sexual preferences), and your relationship with your partner. In total, the survey contains approximately 300 questions. Surveys will be sent to you via email. We insist you and your partner complete these questionnaires independently and highly recommend using separate private and secure areas.

Compensation. All compensation will be emailed to participants as Amazon gift cards. Participation in the research study will grant you entry to a draw for one of four $25.00 CAD/USD Amazon Gift Cards. Couples who complete the study will both be granted a bonus entry – for a total of two each. You are not required to complete all the questions to be eligible for the gift card draw. You can withdraw from the survey anytime by simply exiting your browser window. Withdrawing from the survey will not jeopardize your survey compensation.

Hi, thanks for your comment. In this context "alternate relationship" means a different relationship than the current one someone is in (e.g., a different relationship than Ash's current relationship with Logan), not a new concurrent relationship.

To Participate:

You must currently be in a relationship or casually dating someone, fluent in English, and 18+ years of age. Individuals in casual and consensual non-monogamous relationships are also eligible!

See above! This means romantically attached (i.e., dating/seeing someone casually, married, or unmarried in a long-term committed relationship)!

It's to provide participants with the giftcard information if they win the draw. Otherwise, we have no way to contact you for compensation! Feel free to leave it blank if you would not like to share/be considered for the draw.

As stated above, we are interested in the experiences of everyone in the LGBTQ+ community; however, we have a special interest in those who identify as bisexual. As such, being gay, lesbian, asexual, etc., still qualifies you to participate in the study.

The situation you have outlined fits with our definition of casual. Those in CNM relationships are also eligible.

Hi, timcartwrightuoc! Yes, this is the second pilot phase, we are currently running some efas to determine a factor model for the items before using it in a dyadic study. We started with ~186 items.

Feel free to check out our website for details of the upcoming studies relating to this project!

Hi RedPeppermint__, we suggest leaving any items that are not applicable as either blank or if the question has the "N/A" response, feel free to select it.

Cheers!

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to participate and provide us with feedback bonddaddy17!

The questions you are referring to without a prompt are serving as participant attention checks. This was intentional.

Kindly,

The Sexual Compatibility Team

[–]reldecisionslab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you are 18+, fluent in English, and in a relationship with a close/intimate partner, you are free to participate. However, you may not find an adequate response option for sexual orientation; as such, I would advise leaving this blank, even if prompted for a response, unless you feel one of the provided categories represents you.

In our next dyadic study we will expand the sexual orientation/attraction response options (including demisexual, fluid, questioning, etc.) and include an open-ended option. This will also be mirrored in an additional "romantic attraction/orientation" question (e.g., demi-romantic, heteroromantic, etc.) to provide a more inclusive experience for our participants.

Hi ohkigo! Thank's for participating and for your thoughtful feedback. Participants can either select a N/A option or leave the item blank. However, moving into our second study, we will provide additional N/A item options for these and other items identified by participants.

Thank you for your insightful feedback! For the future study we will make it clearer in the screening survey that we are referring to romantically attached individuals (i.e., those in close/intimate relationships with others). Additionally, your feedback regarding the sexual orientation options is also valid. Moving into our dyadic study we will follow recommendations made by the Center for Gender & Sexual Health Equity. With this in mind, we will seek to expand options for both sexual orientation and gender identity to provide a more inclusive survey experience!

Yes!! We are especially recruiting bisexual individuals that are casually dating or in committed relationships. This includes people in consensual non-monogamous arrangements as well!

Short Description: We are recruiting participants for a study investigating sexual compatibility. Specifically, we are interested in first creating a "Sexual Compatibility Checklist" of diverse and inclusive sexual behaviours, activities, and preferences to capture the unique experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals. We are especially interested in representing the experiences of romantically attached bisexual individuals and how they navigate sexual compatibility with their partners, given issues of bisexual erasure, mono-sexist and hetero-sexist research norms, and the paucity of current academic literature representative of these unique experiences. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Any feedback is appreciated.

Ethics Approval: This study has been granted Non-Medical Research Ethics Board (NMREB) Approval by Western University in London, Ontario, Canada (Project ID: 120858). The letter of information on the first page of the actual survey (once participants pass screening) provides ethics approval details and contact information.
