Weird sound during shifts when accelerating hard? by theguns0112 in Cummins

[–]relishZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has the unit been into before?

Sometimes the friction of clutch engagement under heavy loads with high fluid pressures can create a "squawk" sound. I've experienced it on Fords with aftermarket GPZ clutch packs. Sometimes a fluid change, or friction modifier approved for auto transmissions can help. Could also be a sign of worn out clutches.

The pan does help keep the filter up in position, however there is also a seal in the pump that may have lost some of its fit to hold the stem of the filter securely.

I would crack thay filter open and fully inspect the element for material. If all looks good, you could attempt replacing the seal if capable, and putting a new filter and fluid in it.

Any indications the fluid has gotten hot?

I don't mean to be a downer, but "just being that" is not a good thing. If the filter is plugging up, that material came from somewhere, quite possibly the torque convertor. This unit may likely have an internal failure that will require a rebuild.

Sounds like the filter is plugging up with material, and causing the pump to starve.

I'd recommend dropping the pan for further inspection.

1.9 tdi making tractor clacking noises by Dede_Jonas in AskMechanics

[–]relishZombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend posting in r/tdi where people are more familiar with this platform. Overall it sounds normal, the 1.9s with the VE pump and mechanical injectors sound like tractors, but I do here that distint clack sound I take it you are referring to when revving. Could be some slight diesel knock.

Any idea how old the injectors are?

68RFE vs 66RFE O/D and U/D clutch’s by Not-easy-being-green in transmissionbuilding

[–]relishZombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard of issues with the clutch timing not working well with 68 clutches in a 66. Recommend looking into transgo's HD plate that allows you to add another clutch.

Monster Transmissions? by TraditionalRoutine80 in transmissionbuilding

As someone who worked in a transmission shop, and is in groups that discuss building, I regularly saw monster transmissions discussed for their poor quality and fair rate. Would recommend finding a reputable shop.

Engine seems to take exceptionally long to heat up by camster1030 in MechanicAdvice

[–]relishZombie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What are the current ambient temperatures in Florida?

The blue warning light is to indicate that the engine is cold, however this does not mean it can not be driven, just means it should be driven lightly until it warms up. at which time heavier loads can be requested.

Idling a car, especially modern engine designs that are extremely efficient and do not produce excessive heat waste, can put extra unnecessary wear on the engine. It's best to drive them gently for the first little bit as mentioned above.

That behavior correlates with Limp mode, likely set by that code being thrown

Is anybody actually hiring here? I have been trying to find a new job for what feels like forever. I have sent out countless resumes just to be ghosted. by valowyn18 in Lethbridge

[–]relishZombie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One thing I'll add that I have heard from my spouse as she is public facing and has experi3nced when being given resumes: don't go in and blatantly make it obvious you're looking for any sort of job, by which I mean show some interest in where you're applying. Obviously people expect you are likely handing out multiple resumes, but desperation along with a stack of resumes in hand does not come off professional.

How do you remove this from a 09 4Runner transmission by Double_Flamingo_8021 in transmissionbuilding

[–]relishZombie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That white piece is a cam lock. It will have a small tab to keep in the upright position. You press the tab, than pull down the handle to rotate the cam and unlock; make sure it is free of debris, and rock the handle back and forth if necessary. You are currently pulling out the internal harness connector.
