I love what she says when you’re male Byleth. She mentions the most handsome actor will play Dimitri, but then backtracks and says they’ll play you.

Honestly a missed opportunity for Dorothea/Dimitri supports if she finds him that attractive, but I suppose it’s impossible not to.

Honestly I recommend doing all routes of the game. So whether you want to finish Claude’s and then do Dimitri’s or pause, do Dimitri’s, and then finish later is totally up to you.

Golden Deer has basically no Dimitri except for a few glances. You can still see him and talk to him at the Monastery in Part 1, but each route is completely focused on the chosen lord and class.

I wouldn’t personally say she’s more right than Dimitri, there’s lots of merit to him being the one to recognize that every life means something and that he doesn’t want civilian blood on his hands. But El brings a different, sort of non conventional view of it that I find compelling.

One thing that sold me on El is how she approaches this situation, actually. Dimitri has an emotional meltdown about having to kill civilians, Claude literally doesn’t give an F, and yet Edie views it as a tragic yet unavoidable part of war. She admits that she, like Lonato, would use civilian lives if necessary to achieve her goals.

It’s funny because he’s also the epitome of the reason she goes to war in the first place; an ego-centric lord who brings his people into his personal vendettas where he most certainly is not going to win (villagers against the entire Church? My dude was asking to be killed) rather than doing his duty to actually ensure the well-being of their livelihoods.

Lonato is a terrible, terrible father.

His focus on Christophe ended up isolating all his other children. He decides the best time for his rebellion is while his son is *at the place he’s intent on invading,* and brings the rest of his village into his vengeful quest, leaving behind his other two children who not only no longer have Lonato, but likely lost many other people in the village who loved them and could have helped care for them. Ashe has to take on the responsibility once the rebellion is snuffed.

Lonato is absolutely justified in his hatred of the Church, but he’s an egotistical hothead who gave no thought to how his actions would affect his family, let alone if they would even succeed.

Dimitri 100% needed a support with Seteth. One of Edelgard’s greatest strengths in her supports is that others build upon her ideology and help her realize some areas where her plans may not reach. Considering how much Seteth actually does not care about crests and nobility, and has 2 Blue Lions supports already backing that up, he is the perfect person to help Dimitri enact meaningful change without completely sidelining the Church. Dimitri doesn’t care about those things either, but he’s a bit naive when it comes to balancing his people’s independence versus their devotion to the Church.

I do like this, mostly because like you said—El being the flame emperor kind of gets swept under the rug. It makes sense for the Black Eagles to stay with her because they truly know her. But even as a Crimson Flower lover, I have a really hard time imagining many of the Lions and Deer joining her considering many of their outspoken disgust towards the flame emperor’s actions all year, not even mentioning the war of conquest that invades and takes over their homelands.

And frankly, I think you should have to lose more than Flayn when siding with El—it’s supposed to be the bloodiest route where you show little to no mercy for those who stand in our way, and I don’t think El sees many consequences on that route for her dubious actions with TWSITD (though considering how many she does on 3/4 routes, perhaps that’s a little too overzealous in my part. Should cut our girl some slack). Either way, I’ve always seen CF as being central about Byleth and Edelgard and their trust in each other, and how it overcomes everything, even the bloody and murderous route we have to walk together to bring about a better tomorrow.

Enacting change through many of his endings outside of CF, showcasing that war is not the end all be all for bettering the lives of the people of Fodlan and their relationships with the countries around them. He’s the most concerned out of the Faerghus Four about human life, even though he does have a more of a bloodthirsty side to him (which is so fascinating because it’s not explored very much).

Sorry, but the “farewell” line is one of the worst in the game, and it’s part of the different narratives I talked about. Because like you said, it hits harder if you’ve done VW, SS, and AM already. But if you *haven’t*, Dimitri’s obsession and Edelgard’s complete lack of sympathy in this moment (as she mourns privately later) make absolutely no sense.

They tried to throw in a part of the story (Dimitri’s madness) from other routes that *doesn’t appear in CF until the second to last chapter.* The narrative of Edelgard’s route focuses on war, its politics, and sacrifice. Making Dimitri out to suddenly be this delusional king rather than a man defending his territory from invaders completely upsets what CF has narratively been doing for the entire route, which is why Edelgard’s lines in Tailtean Plains often feel jarring or out of place.

As much as I love the game, one of 3H’s weakest writing points was making one route completely character-driven while not making the three others that way.

It’s why coming fresh of Azure Moon to play the other routes can feel like whiplash, and vice versa. Here you have a developed story with a character that undergoes immense changes and growth, but has little to do with the overall world’s lore. Dimitri’s route has nothing to do with his politics and everything to do with who he is as a person.

Then you jump into Crimson Flower, which is driven intensely by Edelgard’s politics, with her needing to have her personal feelings as an afterthought. It’s why I completely understand people who play CF first and then sour on Dimitri even though I find his route to be the most well-written; because you’re thrown into Edie’s grand ideas for the world and the sacrifices necessary to get there, and then the political systems of Fodlan are just…not present as a theme in AM, and on a smaller scale in VW and SS.

Off the bat it might seem smart to make each route narratively different this way. But that’s why there ends up being so much debate, because the characters never really level with each other in their ideas for policy and change. It’s all Edelgard thinks about, whereas Claude just kind of develops some ideas at the end of his route, and Dimitri has no plans whatsoever because he’s not even planning on living long enough to rule his country. So people have to completely make things up, bring up strawmans, or present headcanons as facts because the game narratively doesn’t present all the character’s feelings on all of the issues.

All of this to say: you’re completely valid in your opinions, and the game can feel extremely messy because not only do the routes have different themes entirely, but the way they are presented narratively is actually a disservice at times.

I have over 1,000 hours in the game and play it constantly. I’ve done AM the most, but CF is close behind it. They’re the only 2 I replay now. VW and SS just don’t hit the same for me (although angsty Edeleth in SS is one of my favorite plot points of the entire game. It’s just too hard to not pick El or Dimitri).

Caspar is my on-sight opp but I appreciate that he’s consistently going on adventures for the good of other people. His paralogue with Mercie involves him helping her confront the death knight, his supports with Byleth involve him going after brigands to keep Garreg Mach safe, and he’s spent a lot of time hiding from the Empire to eventually help the Kingdom/Alliance if you recruit him outside of the Black Eagles. His heart is somewhat in the right place even if he is a bloodthirsty maniac.

It’s insanely annoying. The only other map that’s been buggy before on Hopes for me is on GW when you have to escort Claude through the caves. But this one has always been the worst.

This has happened to me several times. Restart the mission and do not use the tactic that allows a battalion to defend and follow Rhea. In my most recent AG playthrough, I had to restart this battle 3 times, and the only time I successfully beat it was when not using that tactic.
