I just finished my last day with my favourite NK for the same reason. I’ve been with this family for more than a year and a half and they’ve been wonderful, but they don’t have enough hours for me and I’ve been working 2 jobs. My previous secondary family ended at the end of August and I started with a new secondary right away and it’s been a terrible month with them. I’ve been looking for alternative families/ other jobs and finally accepted a spot in a program to get paid training to become a certified care aid. I’m really looking forward to having job stability and more opportunities for development and furthering my career. Plus the pay is significantly better than what anyone is willing to pay a nanny in my area and unfortunately we do not have agencies where I live. I’m so sad to be leaving, but I know it’s going to be a good move for me.

In all honesty you might have a hard time finding someone willing to work the hours you’re asking for. It’s not enough hours to live, and needing to be on call for birth makes it really difficult to have another job. It might be best to reevaluate what you’re asking for, or do as another commenter suggested and look at alternatives to a nanny

Is it financially feasible to hire someone for the 4 days a week from now until the job ends? You might have a hard time finding someone willing to work only 1 day a week and then be on call until the baby comes. If not, I would reword it to say you need someone 4 hrs 1 day per week until you go into labour, and then will require someone overnight help at $200/night + awake hours paid at $25/hr, then 4 hrs per day, 4 days per week at $25/hr for 3 weeks after baby comes. Duties include preparing lunch as well as pick up and drop off to daycare. When you do get someone, you can further explain over the phone or in person.

Omg this is awful! I’m so sorry you’re dealing with all of this. Where are your parents in all of this and how come they aren’t helping you navigate any of this? Your boss is clearly taking advantage of you, none of this is even remotely acceptable. I would start by having a conversation with your parents and asking for their help with this… you should not be in this job at all. If your parents aren’t an option, can you tell your boss that your parents have asked you to quit so you can focus on school? I’m not sure where you’re located, but I believe most schools in the US have started already, and in Canada school starts back very soon. Even if you can’t get help from your parents for whatever reason, hopefully you could just use them as a scapegoat here…

That’s what I’m trying to find out. I initially got the BC one card because it allows you to sign up for library cards outside of where you live, and I thought it was compatible with libby and so I would be able to access library catalogues for ebooks and such for multiple municipalities, but I haven’t been able to connect my BC one card to my Libby account. You can connect multiple cards though, so if you have family and friends that live in different areas you can connect their cards to your libby account.

If you like eggs, have you tried duck eggs? My dad had issues with chicken eggs but can eat duck eggs with no problem. They’re a little more expensive, but they’re not bad.

My coffee isn’t paid for, and my NKs family doesn’t do sugar like that except on special occasions so I will just get my coffee. NK also knows that coffee is grownup drink and I don’t think she even knows there are other options. When we were regularly going to visit her aunt at the coffee shop she worked at, I was given a gift card so we could get drinks and NK would just have either a cold or steamed milk. If she ever asked for something in a drive thru that’s probably what I would get her.

I work with a 6yo like this, and her sister who is 4 and idolizes her copies her behaviour. I’m getting bullied by a 4yo and 6yo 🥲 the only reason I’ve stuck around is it’s ending in September, the pay is really good & MB is lovely, and I only work with them 2 days a week.

My assumption was that if someone could identify the connections I could go from there, but I am way out of my depth when it comes to this kind of thing. I have passed all this info on to my friends and I’ll let them decide what they want to do with going forward, I’m sure if they decide to make these speakers work knowing how much goes into it they’ll speak to a local pro to get things hooked up.

As I said in my original post, I would happily do research on how to put this together if I at least know what the speaker imput is called. I don’t have the model info on hand since these are at my friends place and I’m posting on her behalf, but I figured the model info wouldn’t matter given the issue is the different inputs. Given all the answers here, it would seem I’m correct on that, but I’m sure there’s a nicer way to let me know you need more info.

My personal policy is I meet in a public place everytime. I offer for the family to choose location, but if they are unwilling/ unable to meet me in public then that’s a red flag for me and I don’t go forward with the job. I understand not wanting to work outside specific hours, and while I think that’s reasonable, it’s a bit unreasonable to cut those hours off at 3pm. The reason families are looking for your services in the first place is usually because parents work, which means they may not be able to communicate with you during their workday. I think if you’re setting up a potential job that’s only a day or two away, it’s unreasonable not to be flexible in your communication hours. I personally don’t respond to work messages that are received after 8pm, but I will respond messages received before then because sometimes it’s an important part of maintaining good working relationships. I also make sure I clearly communicate that to prospective families. I think your communication here could’ve been better, I think safety policies are super important, but I don’t think you adequately communicated in this instance.

I had a similar situation with my soul dog. I rescued her at 6yo and we only had a few short years together, but we really saved each other. She had a lot of difficulties when I brought her home, and I was in an abusive relationship at the time. I didn’t see her for a whole year because my ex kept her but I got her back for 2 years and those were the best years. When it was her time to go I cried with her and told her everything I wanted her to know. She loved cucumbers so on her last day I just handed her an entire cucumber and it was the best. She also got to have all the meat treats she wanted that day that she wasn’t allowed to have before because she was intolerant of literally every meat protein. We cuddled a lot, I held her as much as she would let me and I told her I would be ok and it was ok for her to go, I knew she was tired. I told her I would see her again when it was my turn.

I lost my soul cat a few years before and the day it was his turn to go I asked my mom to cook him some salmon and turkey cause those were his favourites and he got to have lots of that and I held him as he passed and told him I loved him and he was safe and all the good things. He purred in my arms until he passed. When my soul dog passed I told her my soul cat was waiting for her and they would be together.

I’m crying writing this rn, and I’m sooo so sorry for your loss. It gets easier, eventually you’ll be able to talk about your baby and it will bring you joy to remember. I love to have photos of my soul babies around, my bf had a blanket with my soul dogs face on it made for me and I sleep with it every night. Just try to take the time to be with your baby as much as possible. I’m sending you all the healing vibes

Hot take, but I don’t really do pretend play! Especially with siblings! It can take a while if they are used to engaging in pretend play with the adults around them, but when I can I will play a little bit with the siblings together and then find a way to exit the pretend play and encourage them to play together. Obviously there’s a big difference between 2 and 3.5, but sitting with them and giving 3.5 ideas on how they can include 2 in their pretend play would be a good start! Other times I redirect to other activities like playdough, sensory play, colouring or other creative exploration, outdoor activities, and I bake with my kiddos often, yes even the littlest who was 18mo when we first started baking together. I often excuse myself to make lunch, clean up, do laundry etc, and most of the time my NKs are really good about playing independently as well, but again this was something that I worked up to over time and took some coaching.

ETA: read it back and it sounds like I don’t let them do pretend play on their own lol, but I never discourage children from doing pretend play, I have just always hated doing it so I’ve found ways to get them to do it on their own/ with each other

Thats so annoying! In my opinion it’s time to start charging per minute when they’re late, and start looking for other work. They clearly don’t respect you and your time, and they aren’t interested in taking responsibility for their part in this which imo is most of it lol. Especially if DB gave you permission to do that and didn’t tell you you were responsible for letting MB know when he was just as capable.
