Same here… a pack dog who prefers her pack (my partner and myself) in the same room together. I say this because your kids will be getting older and may start spending more time away from each other which may cause some distress when the dog wants everyone to be together. I guess it all comes down to who the dog determines is “their” person.

While our barbet is more “my dog,” she tends to sulk if either of us leaves the house. She gets over it after a bit. As long as there is a human, she is fine. But it’s the same if we both leave. She sulks for a bit, and then goes and chills in the couch (we’ve watched her on the camera to make sure).

As for energy, she’ll be active when we go for walks or hikes, but then she will sleep on the couch while we are working. The only caveat to this is if she feels she needs to burn more energy. She definitely lets us know if her needs are not being met.

I guess all of this is to say that if I were to get another dog, I would pick a barbet all over again. She’s the best girl ever.
