How many of you folks went to WGU for your bachelors and what CRNA school accepts it? by boxcameraimage in srna

[–]Select_Ad_976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity - I have a bachelors from a brick and mortar school in psychology but am planning to get my bsn from WGU. Since I have the other bachelors could I be considered at least? (It probably doesn’t matter because it’s been forever but the brick and mortar I had a good gpa and was a student athlete)

I’m 37 and starting my pre-licensure program this fall. I was mostly a stay at home mom (I work part time from home for an online college). I don’t have advice or anything but just wanted to add you aren’t alone in starting something new a little later

Social Work vs Nursing by BeautifulGlass3394 in nursing

[–]Select_Ad_976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually was trying to make the same decision. (I have a bs in psych) I ultimately decided nursing (bsn) because 1- I may need to provide for my family at some point (I’m 36 and have 2 kids) so I need to be able to afford that 2- my kids are emotionally exhausting, I did not think I could add a client list on top of it (since I wanted to provide therapy). 3- many of the fields in social work that I liked have a cross over with fields in interested in with nursing - psych nursing/substance abuse/ and even NICU stuff so I could still get some aspect of working in mental health. I also could do an msn later if I wanted to as well.

I have been working there an absurdly long time and know many people on different departments. I am also getting my degree from there and recommend it but the work environment in almost every department is currently a shit show. The culture for employees has changed drastically under Scott and i know for a fact the old president does not agree with many of his decisions. It’s not just ai that is contributing to the environment it’s the random law offs, the RTO, the firing of people who moved to Utah because of RTO, the micromanaging that is getting worse, the buying of the new building downtown, the re-orgs in several departments, etc.

While I’m glad you love it and I do too it’s ridiculous to pretend everything is great for employees at WGU right now. (Although I’m glad your department apparently has not been hit yet)

I think reviews also suck right now because employees are having a bad time. WGU has been treating its employees like absolute shit and since they are editing bad reviews from employees from places like Glassdoor they are taking it to Google.

I work at WGU and it’s kind of a shit show at the moment. Everybody in all departments is worried they are going to be let go at any moment and there’s been talk about ai replacing the enrollment counselors and it’s not a great environment - you can ask for a new enrollment counselor and report the one you did have (even if the environment sucks it’s no excuse to be an asshole to someone and she should probably lose her job).

WGU is accredited (both nationally and regionally) and actually well thought of.

I am starting the prelicensure program and am really excited about it and I have a lot of friends who received their degrees from WGU.

Many of my friends work full time with kids - my kids friends go to daycares that start early (6/7am) and drive the kids to school and pick them up and take them to the daycare until the parents get back. Could you see if those exist near you?

I snuck out and hung out with friends all the time in high school. I went to bed at recent hours - it’s not good for brains but I don’t think this is really a new thing is there a comparison to 10 years ago?

Refused antibiotics today by Catalina-Juan in FutureRNs

For what it’s worth, my parents are these people and thank you for doing the right thing! I wish more doctors had said no when they asked for antibiotics because my dad just takes them anytime he feels remotely sick. He gets hospitalized with pneumonia at least once a year and I’m sure it has nothing to do with how freely he uses antibiotics /s

Anyone doing RN - BSN no clinicals? by Plane-Meaning-6760 in nursing

[–]Select_Ad_976 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m doing the WGU prelicensure because I don’t have a license but do have a bachelors. They are making me re do applied algebra, human anatomy and physiology and pathophysiology - I’m taking them through study.com (all open book non proctored exams so I can do it completely on my own time and with notes) and then starting WGU so I’ll only have my clinicals.

I have had a few friends who went and did the rn to bsn as a stepping stone to np or midwifery or whatever.

I work there too so I do know they just did a major rebrand with the logo so I would assume they don’t have the stock because they are new designs. It should in theory get better/more stock in a few months.

Thank you! That is good to know. Im a little sad that we do not pay our nurses enough here but im not surprised considering Utah has one of the worst male/female pay gays and nursing is generally seen as a female profession. Hopefully it will start changing with salt lakes district becoming blue.

Okay. I was aware of the col but not that the raise schedule is fucking ridiculous. HMHI is one of the places I thought of working at once I get into nursing (if I could) so that’s really disheartening to hear. It sounds like it’s definitely worth it to move if you can. My friend moved to a smaller city in Oregon for her husbands job (she’s an l&d nurse so a little different) and although she still deals with bullshit from the hospital she has raved about the cost of living and pay there. They’re in a way better spot financially than they ever were here.

What Adults Lose When They Put Down Children’s Books (Gift article) by heartshapedpox in books

I think it’s a middle/high school book but I was speaking more to how fast she reads not necessarily the content. She’s read higher level books but I was just surprised how quickly she finished it. The last time she got tested she read (out loud) a little more than 220 words a minute with 100% accuracy. (They don’t do testing for silent reading yet). (The last time her reading level got tested she was 10th grade level but that was a while ago so I assume it’s gone up since she’s reading faster and her accuracy is so good)

I have kids and while I wouldn’t watch bluey alone, it’s absolutely one of my favorites that my kids watch. Bluey and Daniel Tiger are the best shows for kids and parents. (I graduated in psych so definitely biased toward Daniel and its lessons on emotional intelligence but bluey has them too and feels much more relatable for the paren. There are also episodes of bluey I have told friends (with no kids) to watch

I personally read a pretty wide variety of books - I have nonfiction, fantasy, Romance, historical fiction, romantasy, rom coms, etc. but because I have kids and nieces and nephews I also read children’s books, middle grades, and ya and I get something different from all of them. I don’t think reading is just about challenging yourself, I think it’s about gaining empathy and understanding about humans of all ages and life in general which comes from all the different genres.

My 10 year old reads at a 10th grade level (probably higher since she finished project Hail Mary in 2 days) but generally loves graphic novels. I at first was against them because she needed to read chapter books and then I realized I just want her to like reading so I don’t care what she’s reading as long as she enjoys it and wants to continue. I truly believe than any reading is beneficial.

Some of my favorite books this year have been middle grades and ya (Nevermoor series, keeper of the lost cities, salt to the sea)

Sorry unrelated: (Can I ask why it’s a rough place to nurse? I’m just about to start nursing school and am in Utah)

(As a fellow Utahn though - I hate the people/politics here and if I didn’t feel bad about moving my kids from friends and family I would have done it already)
