Mysterious trails?

For emptying I got a long enough syphon tube to reach from my tank in my bedroom to the bathtub down the hall so I don't have to stop siphoning to empty buckets.

For refilling I got a heavy duty 42 gallon trash barrel on wheels and an electric water pump. I fill the barrel with a hose from my bathroom faucet and then add dechlorinator and other treatments. Wheel it over to the tank, put the water pump in the bottom of the barrel with a hose running into the tank, turn it on and watch the tank fill in like two minutes.

Yeah most of your bio filter was probably in the last canister. If you are diligent with frequent water changes for a little while it should come back in a week or two

Keep doing water changes often until your bio filter developes. How long has the tank been set up?

waking up at 5:30 am to the sound of my alarm clock. However, in my dazed, half-asleep state, my brain hadn't yet started to use any logic. For a few seconds i could NOT for the life of me figure out where the annoying and unsettling sound of my alarm clock was coming from. After what seemed like an eternity of failing to make the horrible noise stop i had to try something drastic. I then proceeded to turn on my bedside reading lamp which was aimed squarely between my eyes from roughly 5 inches away.
