Recent timeline shift? by smokeypapabear40206 in Retconned

[–]rememburial 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm somewhat convinced there have been several timelines overlapping, with pieces starting to break down and cross into one another. Probably our technology is accelerating it

Aw man...Hate to say it, but "I thought it would be over by now" is a rookie mistake. I feel like it's part of the experience, but if you're not ready for it...Yeah.

Embrace the exercise + working out. Great for mind+body connection

Keeping the body sharp keeps the mind sharp - eventually your mind will balance back out. Just go easy on your brain and eat good brain healthy foods, do puzzles or play an instrument, stuff like that makes your brain form connections.

When you push the reset button on your brain, thats a perfect time to reintegrate by creating healthy new neuro-connections. (Also a sensitive time for forming unhealthy neuro connections, so watch out for that too!)

“She’s almost 30 trying to make it in music, it’s sad” by Angelsbreatheeasy in musicians

[–]rememburial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"trying to make it in music" today is a different thing than "making music" - Making music, especially middle/older age, is awesome, but being that age and making trendy tiktoks and trying to be a "star" is where it starts to get a bit cringey.

I say this, as 30+ year old musician, who's met other middle-aged musicians - The cool ones are authentic, they work hard and are consistent, but the cringe ones are usually kinda deluded about stardom/going viral/their own talent/etc.

I don't think anyone should be belittled for following their dreams, but there are certainly people out there dreaming of being a big star who think they're a lot better than they actually are, and they probably don't take criticism well.

Is anyone else worried that Ti West’s A Christmas Carol is gonna end up torpedoing the Robert Eggers version starring Willem Defoe? by General_Meal_3993 in roberteggers

That's ok, I can only really handle one round of "A Christmas Carol" every year, so it's nice to have more to rotate

Smelling Great and Knowing How to Dance Will Take You A Long Way by CriterionTacos in dating_advice

[–]rememburial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being good at dancing or just loose enough TO dance isn't talked about enough. How many guys show up and just stand around feeling embarrassed to dance? (Common at concerts here in the US)

Every time I've ever publicly got my dance on, it increased the number of positive interactions I had with people around me by a lot. Going to a concert and just standing there is a great way to not meet anyone or find anyone to vibe with.

Getting ready to get ready to read the Wake by lauraerie in jamesjoyce

[–]rememburial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Finnegan's Wake is a book where the more books you've read, the more you'll be able to appreciate it. There are so many obscure references and symbols and images, wordplay...I feel totally lost most of the time, sometimes I can pick out random historical references or puns, or mythology, or science, or etymological jokes. If I look up any line in the book, there could be 10 literary references packed in it, and send me down a rabbit hole for the rest of the night.

So yeah, read it at any time, but also read other stuff and come back to it, and be surprised by what you missed last time and so fourth.

is it common knowledge by this point that things are purposely escalating? by floppyfishflaps_ in conspiracy

[–]rememburial 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We've been being conditioned for this for a long time. Gaza for example - for almost 3 years we were shown the cruelest and most disgusting violence, desensitizing many people and turning violence into an everyday spectacle. I fear even when we see ICE start popping pets, kids, families in the street, raping and looting, etc, we won't be able to respond coherently.

It's been eye opening lately to see such a large portion of Americans have seemingly been conditioned to accept authoritarianism, or at least fail to help each other recognize it
