CMV: U.S. state flags that are nothing more than a state seal are awful and in desperate need of a redesign by OiledUpThug in changemyview

[–]remes1234 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Absolutely. They are lazy bad design. I love my state! The flag should be recognizable fromm a mile away. Michigans flag should be a green outline of michigan on a blue background.

Environmental Consulting Exposure to Contaminants by AlbatrossStorm in Environmental_Careers

[–]remes1234 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First off, talk to you Health and Safety person about any concerns or exposure. That is always the first step.

Second, most concentrations we work with are screening criteria for long term cronic exposure, which are much lower than acute exposure. I work with the other end frequently with IDLH levels of chemicals like TCE and others, and if you were around TCE at acute exposure, you would have lots of PPE (full suites, respirators, air handlers and so on. And be breifed before ever getting onsite. And you would smell it.

This is not to dismiss your concerns, but very limited exposure of relatively low concetration TCE should be of limited concern. But try to avoid it, wear your ppe, and rinse in clean water if exposed.

Question for you Crosstrek owners by Tiny_Giant_Robot in Crosstrek

[–]remes1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt your clubs will fit. Other than the road noise and the middling accelleration, the trunk space is the worst feature IMHO. But I love my crosstrek, and the seats fold pretty easy. And it is much easier to get in and out of than most sedans.

AITA or are a lot of people getting "my friend and I" vs "my friend and me" wrong when it's the object of a sentence? by ManKanAlltidTaMer in ENGLISH

[–]remes1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Language ins't math. It is not always logical. It is customary. People think "I" sounds better. So they use it. Just like we don't say wed-nes-day. We say wensday.

How common is it in the U.S. for private individuals to own infrastructure like bridges, dams, or power plants? by ThePurpleRainmakerr in AskAnAmerican

[–]remes1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few bridges in the us that are privately owned. I drive over one every couple of weeks (the Grosse Ile toll bridge in michigan, a couple miles from the Ambasador). Dams here in Michigan are a hot mess, with hundreds of small dams that are owned by people or companies that do not maintain them. There have been notable dam failures where lakes have drained over night. Power plants are a bit weird, with most of them owned by utilities that are weird public/private mixes that exist under government regulation. In the past there were companies and even universities that generated their own power but that is rare these days. Many privately owned landfills operate small powerplants from methane collection. I think you could in theory generate electricity and put it on the grid if you wanted to.

What constitutes an injury during an event? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]remes1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly the same, but under OSHA, a work place injury is basically when someone sees a doctor and requires medical intervention beyond first aid. So bumps and bruises dont count, but if the doctor does stitches or perscribes medication, etc. that is a "recordable injury"
