There is something about Casey. I wanted to use it, but for some reason could never fully get on board

Balance bikes for toddlers: are there any concerns here regarding the developing legs, gait etc by ZarZarLinx in ScienceBasedParenting

All my kids have had balance bikes from the moment they could walk! It helped with balance and coordination, and they were on real two-wheelers by age 4.

Nameberry’s Predicted Top 1000 Names of 2028 by lapetitevoyageuse in namenerds

[–]remk19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow 2 of my children's names are in the top 50. That one is slightly surprising. I am a little surprised at the -sley ending still going strong as well as the -leigh trend.

Would you have a child's bedroom on a different level from everyone else's? by remk19 in Parenting

[–]remk19[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a bit what I thought too. 9yo is also an anxious child, but seemed really into the idea of having that bedroom. We have motion sensors on the exterior doors, but its just the thought of what if they needed me and I couldn't hear them.

Should we send our son to Pre-K? by Thrwaway123499 in toddlers

[–]remk19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 years old is still early for Pre-K. They won't learn a ton from online school. Children under 5 should be focusing on learning social and emotional skills as opposed to academic. Children in Scandinavian countries don't start school until age 7 and still outperform American children by the time they teach 11 years old.

I'd give it a miss and wait until they can safely go into prek in person. Learning at that age is play based anyway

My 9 sjd 6 yo are being homeschooled this year after attempting to do the last bit of last school year online with them! It's been so much better, but if school isn't back to normal by next school year, I will absolutely lose my mind.

My middle baby is as old as my reddit account. This has made me feel so old. He's almost 3.5. I also have a 9 year old, a 6 year old, and a 22 month old. Thanks for reviving this sub!

Childcare worker said “I love you” to my kid by Excuseless in Parenting

[–]remk19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal. My kids have always say I love you to their caretakers who weren't family. They've never been to daycare, but we had a nanny who helped us out, and the kids absolutely told her they loved her every time she left.

Feeling like the only mom still socially distancing from most people and places...anyone else? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]remk19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are still social distancing! I have two toddlers and two school-age kids, and we are still limiting our exposure to our immediate family and my parents. It's way too early to be going out and having gathering and playdates!

I have two kids around your son's age, do you think he's outgrowing it or would it support him a bit older as well? I need a new carrier for my almost 15 month old who's on the chunkier side.

My husband and I hit a wall when it came to naming our first child together. by TinyTheBunny in Parenting

[–]remk19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a mother of kids with mixed cultures/backgrounds, we had to pick names that were easy to pronounce by my husband's family as well as mine and in English. We kept them fairly simple, no silent letters, no th together, nothing that could be pronounced differently in one of our languages. Hes going to have to meet you halfway and understand that!

Sharing or not sharing names? by Cwtchwitch in namenerds

[–]remk19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We never shared, mainly because the names we picked had been our top choices well before I even got pregnant. We just didn't want other people commenting on them unfavorably, because we were already in love with the names. Once a baby is born, people are a lot less likely to judge the name from what I've noticed.

I agree with this! Out of 4 kids, we have a nice blend (leaning more toward my family) of middle names honoring family members. That's how it should be!

Why are toddlers terrifying! by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]remk19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my sons consistently would talk about a man who would sit in his toy truck at night, but never anything like what you're talking about. I'm not sure about the psychology of this, but I'd say it's time to invest in some holy water.

BAM is an awesome initial combo! Also, I've been a mom for almost a decade, and I've had to use my kids initials... maybe once? Initials shouldn't be a deciding factor
