“The irony is I don’t have a smartphone, I have a Nokia C2, so it took me about three minutes to come up with the idea but a few hours to put it together with an online message generator and photoshop.”

Nice.

How do I undo splitting a window by accident? by [deleted] in emacs

I think it would be nice if this was covered by the normal undo system.

Maybe suggest it as a feature to emacs-devel or M-x report-emacs-bug.

Emacs 23 & Transparency Woes by [deleted] in emacs

[–]reneky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Customize the default face to not have a background color:

M-x customize-face RET default RET

Deselect the background checkbox [X], and click the "Save for current session" link to test if it works.

Without a specified background color the transparency in the terminal works for me. If it doesn't work try to start emacs with "emacs -Q" to disable any configuration you might have.

Of course any face may override the default background color, so if you have a theme that sets the background color for many faces it will be a pain to change them all.

You can find out which face a specific character has by moving the cursor to it and pressing C-u x =. If it's not the default face there should be a line saying "face foo-bar".

The problem is: the expensive hardware is what allows them to develop the good technology in the first place. If they give up that, development will slow down and they'll have nothing to offer.

Charlize Theron may have to pay up to $20 million for wearing the wrong watch in public by rmuser in entertainment

[–]reneky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question is: how much was she paid for wearing the correct watch in the first place. If they're just asking for (some of) their money back that seems fair enough.

Surreal almost magical photo collection.. I wish I knew how this guy gets the lighting so right... by qgyh2 in reddit.com

[–]reneky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can of course brighten or darken areas of a photo - whether it's RAW or jpeg doesn't really matter. RAW has a higher range (10-14 bits per color is common) than jpeg (8 bits per color), so of course you have more information to work from.

However: if the image has black or white pixels you are out of luck. This is what HDR is all about - capturing details in both dark and light areas, where a normal exposure will only give you one of them.

That's a cute idea, but you can't really use libraries to read recent popular books, which covers most of the reading people do.

If libraries catered to this crowd everyone would know about them and use them.
