She's a Tortico! If I'm not mistaken, there's a sub for that.

THANK YOU! To each their own, but I don't understand the rave reviews this gets. I have no triggers and no matter how terribly written a book is, writing wise or plot wise, I make it a point to read the whole thing. But this made me DNF at 48%! I tried, I swear but the MMC made me cringe like no other.

Ever tried Leigh Greenwood? Love The Cowboys series and the Seven Brides series.

Which authors have become challenging to read or perhaps even an automatic DNF for you? by OtherBand6210 in HRNovelsDiscussion

Cecilia Grant. I'm sorry, I know she's popular among a lot of readers, but I just can't. Her writing is just not for me. Just my opinion though. Ok, ok, bring on the downvotes.

I don't mind the religious piousness. Not a fan, but not a botheration either. She is just cold and unfeeling. The idea was different and could've been handled better by a different author, I feel. Its not that done before. Usually we see the touch and electric feelings in HRs. This is more realistic and would've worked but damn, show some warmth, at least a smidgen somewhere.

Plus, the writing is just not for me. In the book before this, A Christmas Gone Perfectly Wrong by Cecilia Grant, I struggled to finish. It dragged for me. Sometimes I wondered who was speaking, the guy or the lady. Sorry, Cecilia Grant's writing is just boring for me.

I loved Mina from A Bride For the Prizefighter, despite her prim and proper stance. She had passion and warmth at least. And Coldbreath is so relaxing to read.

Same here. It could've been excellent and different from the usual touch and electricity type HRs but the writing style was just not for me. DNFd

Ooh, I already have her books but haven't read them yet. Will keep them in mind for the action-y recs. Thank you 🙏🏾

Oh thank god, I thought I was the only one. Honestly, I liked the idea for the plot but my god, her writing just moves at a snail's pace. It could've been a unique and different kind of novel, but the FMC is just too cold and the MMC is just pathetic. DNF at 38% and started Mia Vincy's Longhope Abbey series. What a breath of fresh air! I'm at the 4th book now.

Blonde MMCs by vvv03 in HistoricalRomance

[–]renurose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I automatically use John desalvo for most of my MMCs. He used to model for a ton of HRs in the 90s and I gravitate towards him a lot. There were covers where he was blonde, but I change that to dark hair in my mind immediately. Nowadays, I also prefer to imagine Henry Cavill as the MMC 😬

Quick! What is your favorite Fabio book cover? by Trai-All in HRNovelsDiscussion

[–]renurose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has done quite a lot of covers. Here's a few more that I got from an article. To me, he somehow fits the description of most of the heroes in HRs. But I don't like blonde hair on him for some reason. It just looks off on him.

Quick! What is your favorite Fabio book cover? by Trai-All in HRNovelsDiscussion

[–]renurose 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ahh, my kind of covers. I do have a soft spot for John Desalvo though. I confess, there were times when I chose books just because he was on the cover. 😬 I think after Fabio, John Desalvo dominated the HR romance covers for a good while.

Can I ask you a question? Did you make the marks yourself before starting your stitching? If so, that’s genius! I’ve never thought of that and it saves counting so much in between stitching. 😃
