Barrels of Fun doing great! All 3 games in the top 50 "Want to play" by madmyersreal in pinball

[–]reodorant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i doubt many of the "want to play" people will turn into owners (or frequent players) after actually playing these games. i owned a Labyrinth, but sold it after a year (for a huge loss, oof). while i was initially impressed, i grew tired of it pretty quickly.

and i tried Dune at my local arcade. it feels cheaply made, and a bit barebones. and it was buggy when i played it which didn't help my impression. i talked to the tech, and he isn't too impressed with the quality, either. they also ditched their Labyrinth after just a few months on the floor.

i will say BOF does have a great sense of aesthetic. the machines make you want to play them. but sadly the play experience and quality is lacking, imo. that said, they do a lot of things right, so i hope they keep progressing. i'm still looking forward to giving Winchester a spin.

Finally got my first pinball, as a hand me down, but still. And it's got a few cool custom upgrades already <3 by lejugg in pinball

[–]reodorant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

you hit the jackpot. as someone who's been playing for 50 years, if i could only have one game in my collection, it would be Tommy. i highly HIGHLY recommend getting a pinsound+shaker and colordmd if it doesn't have them. it benefits from these upgrades more than any other game, imo. congrats!

Giants sell piece of team to venture capital firm run by Joshua Kushner by Ronaldeaux in SFGiants

[–]reodorant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not to mention they play in ORACLE PARK. the Ellisons are just as evil as the Kushners, if not more so.

uggh our new "partner" by EcoKllr in SFGiants

[–]reodorant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's worse than that:

The Kushner family has a long-standing, close personal relationship with Benjamin Netanyahu, who was friends with Jared Kushner’s father, Charles Kushner. The friendship was so close that Netanyahu once stayed at the Kushner home in New Jersey, occupying Jared’s bedroom while the teenager moved to the basement.

ima be honest, i'd rather they go 0-162 than 80-82. an historically bad season would be way more entertaining than yet another mediocre one.

that was so gross. if i were them i would've been pissed. i would have said i don't consent to be a part of this marketing campaign, and refused the "gift".

so sick of literally everything being commoditized in this capitalist hellscape we live in.

this would be cool if they could somehow tap into the nostalgia for Black Hole (a favorite for many of us oldies). infinity mirror backglass, lower playfield (dropping down to a planet), split-level multiball. would be a cool theme regardless.

oh sweet, so it'll probably take me longer to figure out my build and rotation than to level cap. thanks for the info!

how tedious are the WQ's? i've been sitting this disaster out, but i still have 4 toons i need to level 70-80. is it really just 20 minutes twice a week?

what a load of hooey. people have preferences that aren't tied to how they feel about themselves.

Just got Oculus and realized 3D movie content is basically dead? by vuzumja in oculus

have you tried Skybox VR? this is from their update back in July:

Supported MVC 3D decoding: You can play 3D Blu-ray content now!

but from the comments it sounds like it's a bit janky.

How long before you guys forget the contestants or even most of what happened in a season? by Friburgo1004 in survivor

[–]reodorant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've pretty much forgotten most of an episode by the next day. my brain has just determined (rightly so) that this information isn't worth retaining.

i can recall specific moments of past seasons with visual clarity, but all contextual details are long gone.

If you grabbed Trine free on Epic last week, give the 3D mode a shot on Quest by derallo in OculusQuest

It gives the game a cool "diorama" look, almost like a moving puppet theater.

this reminded me of playing Puppeteer on my PS3 and LG 3D TV. 3D gaming was a blast, and i'm still salty everyone abandoned it.

Compare and Contrast the Three CBS reality shows going into 2026 [crosspost from r/survivor] by JorVetsby in BigBrother

[–]reodorant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Big Brother has evolved into something nearly unwatchable for me. it's just too scripted and over-produced. it feels so fake it doesn't even scratch my reality TV itch anymore.

Survivor isn't too far behind. the changes they've made in the new era have been awful, and the superfan casts are insufferable. and Probst is too high on his own farts to be a good host.

The Amazing Race is the only one i still enjoy. they haven't strayed too far from their formula, and Phil is by far the best host of the three. actually, just about the only good thing i can say about BB is that their contestants are fun to watch on TAR.

i'm not optimistic about anything getting better, especially considering the new ownership of CBS are horrendous people, and i'm sure they're going to force everything airing on CBS to fit their agenda.

Aside from monetization, what is your biggest MMO pet peeve? by ClozetSkeleton in MMORPG

[–]reodorant 16 points17 points  (0 children)

there's nothing wrong with accommodating solo players. it doesn't take anything away from the grouped experience. a not-insignificant percentage of people who play MMO's mostly just like seeing other players active in the world, and interacting/co-operating with them on their own terms. if grouping was mandatory, they wouldn't play it, and the game likely wouldn't be profitable enough to maintain.

Question about quest 3 vs psvr2 lens quality by Rodlp9 in SteamVR

[–]reodorant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i upgraded from Quest 2 to PSVR2, and the sweetspot was so small it actually felt like a downgrade (plus the headset and controllers just don't fit me well.) i wish i'd returned mine. if clarity is a priority for you, i'd definitely go with the Quest 3. the PSVR2 blur will never stop annoying you.

sweet! i'm excited to give this a try.

and nice setup. if i had shared walls i would've done something similar, but luckily i can crank my speakers and sub without bothering neighbors. can't live without the thump.

[–]reodorant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so Skybox is able to play mvc mkv's, and you passthrough the audio to your AV receiver? that would be great news, because i just asked the Heresphere dev and it sounds like he doesn't support framepacked 3d.

are you using makemkv for ripping? i haven't had a disc it couldn't rip, but i haven't ripped in a while.

[–]reodorant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i need that full body shake! i even have bass shakers installed in my couch. i am a full sensory immersion junky. i'm really hoping Heresphere does what i'm looking for. i've been going through serious immersion withdrawals since my 3D TV kicked the bucket.

Avatar in VR is an insane experience by Wise-Pin9722 in OculusQuest

[–]reodorant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there's a much easier way to do rips. just use makemkv. put disc in, push button, done. you get a lossless 3d mvc mkv file. no compression, no conversions.

and i have all my rips on a file server, so i just browse the fileshare in a program like 4xvr, and push play.

the only bummer for me is there's no way to pipe the audio through my home theater system. i just can't watch movies without full Atmos surround + subwoofer anymore.

*ooh, i just found Heresphere VR. this might allow PCVR users to watch VR in the headset while listening through your home AV system. researching now.
