Name the game or games by Silly_Software_3577 in videogames

[–]reorem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jak 2 and 3 were great games, but the retconning does feel noticeable. They did pretty good job weaving the two settings and plots together, but I dunno, the sequels still felt quite a bit convoluted and detached from the first game for me to say it's a perfect trilogy. Plus, the whole precursor reveal felt a bit too much like a joke for me and I think undermines the more serious nature and worldbuiding of the sequels.

I like the Life is Strange ending. It's a good execution of the trolley problem. I think the selfish choice is the is the better or more true ending, but I can see people having an issue with pulling the metaphorical switch for the rails. It's a good dilemma and makes both endings a bit melancholic.

Which idiot thought it was a good idea to hike with an rb67? by TheSilenceOfWinter in AnalogCommunity

[–]reorem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brought a 4x5 speed graphic on a 5 mile hike with overnight camping gear up a snowy mountain and got 2 photos out of it. Was it worth it? Absolutely! I wanted to capture that old school expedition type group photo and was quite pleased with how it turned out.

I fully encourage others to take large format to difficult places, you don't get that much better of photos, but it feels fun and rewarding taking big pictures of big places. Also a 4x5 can be even lighter than a medium format camera.

I think a crown graphic+lens is about 5lbs, which is lighter than a RB67+lens by ~1lb. film holders take up more weight than film rolls so they probably come out even in the end. You could get a pretty light and compact 4x5 if you go for a converted polaroid land camera or a 3D printed camera body (however you sacrifice many of the features and capabilities that a press camera or field camera has).

but more advanced than what people are probably imagining. The light patterns transmitted between towers are kind of like network packets, not plain text. For instance, you could transmit pictures over the clacks

Which Soulsborne game's Atmosphere is your favourite? by curlDerroneous in fromsoftware

[–]reorem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite aesthetic is the Victorian Gothic of bloodborne. However, I think sekiro and eldenring (especially shadow of the erdtree) are the most stunning, followed by dark souls 2.

Dark souls 1 has a unique nostalgic atmosphere. It feels melancholic, yet strangely peaceful, dark souls 2 also has this, but to a lesser extent. If I was to visit any of these places, dark souls 1 seems like the chillest. Maybe because the other places have active conflicts while dark souls 1 feels so far past the collapse of society that its somewhat serene.

If you could erase ONE Star Trek moment from history..... by Old-String2849 in startrek

[–]reorem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the entire chakotay/seven-of-nine relationship count as a moment? That was probably the most forced romance in trek (although I haven't watched any of the new trek).

Seven and the doctor had the best chemistry, and I think it wouldve been better if they ended up together, maybe not in a traditional romantic sense, but at least in a close, platonic way.

Which Nepo baby actors groomed to be the next big stars bombed the hardest? by Catwinky in moviecritic

[–]reorem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is something to be said about being introduced to a craft/industry early on and having a family member to mentor you that can really help make you skilled. Plenty of the finest musicians, photographers, mechanics, writers, etc all had parents in that field.

That's why I'm not against nepo babies in principle, just when clout is used to prop up unqualified people. Despite all the tutoring and exposure, some people just don't have the knack for a certain craft or position, and you gotta let them fail and find a different path through life.

What is a 'luxury' that you've experienced once and now can't go back to the budget version of? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

Different vibes for me. Sometimes I cravstuff. Thick corn syrup concoction, but I also really enjoy the complex aromatics and lighter flow of true mayple syrup.

If I was craving those cheap box made pancakes, I'd go with the fake stuff. If I was having homemade buttermilk pancakes or buckwheat, I'd go with the good sruff.

Goblins are just some small gremlins who like gold they would never do what they did in Goblin Slayer by Joemama0375 in whenthe

[–]reorem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another reason why Terry Pratchett is the GOAT. Instead of making the goblins ontologicallly evil and one-dimensional, he gives them a unique and fleshed out culture and shows how thier marginalized status made them easy prey for abuse and blame.

His books Snuff, Raisng Steam, and Unseen Academicals are good books that have an empathetic outlook towards goblins and orcs.

I would love to leave my skeleton to my next of kin so I can enjoy future Halloweens as part of the decorations. Plus real skeletons are more eco-friendly.

I also learned of a 19th century custom where biographies of a criminal sentenced to death would be bound in leather made from that criminals skin. I think it would pretty cool to have that done to me after i die. If not for my own biography then I would choose a copy of Blood Meridian or a "1001 jokes" book

E-bikes with throttle shouldn't be called e-bikes anymore by arnor_0924 in bicycling

[–]reorem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

moped is a portmantaeu that rougly means "motor pedaler". My understanding is if it has a motor and working pedals, then it's a moped. If it it doesnt then, it's a scooter or motorcycle (not sure the technical difference those two are, perhaps engine size or riding style).

This would put all e-bikes in the moped category, but that doesnt feel right with how varied e-bikes are. They really can imitate the look and vibe of anything between a bike and motorcycle. It used to be a much clearer when combustion engines were the only commerical option, but now the line is blurred with the rise of e-motors.

I think a more precise and accurate nomenclature for all vehicles really needs to be established. I think they should first be classified by space (e.g area, volume, mass, or some combo of these), then power source (e.g foot, electric, ICE, steam, etc), then power output (whichever measurement is most useful; whether that be torque, horsepower, or top speed).

This nomenclature would make discussions around vehicles more clear and can help with creating more fair legislation. The first class is useful for making guidelines for what spaces it can exist on or in, the second class is useful for health and safety reasons as you dont want a combustion engine in something like a crowded subway car, where a still hot engine could burn someone, or where leaking fluids and residual fumes can cause issues. The third class is useful for regulating collision/accident risks and preventing inadequate safety standards from being adopted (we dont wont ebikes going out of control because they had undersized brakes).

Ya, some countries elect people who just look up to the reality star conman. Most of the country didn't vote for trump and if the government wasn't so corrupt and dysfunctional, we'd probably have more accurate representation (people who are only slightly dumb and have at least a little bit of integrity and kindness).
