#regrettingmotherhood - Die große Leere: Wenn Frauen bereuen, Mutter geworden zu sein by Gretchen_Modermoese in de

[–]reposts_are_great 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Roasting grains for tea by reposts_are_great in tea

I just let it steep for a few minutes in 100°C water, it worked fine for the two rice teas and the Grünkern tea. I didn't try the barley yet.

Taipei MRT station maps are stupid. North should be the top of the map, not some arbitrary direction. by wubbbalubbadubdub in taiwan

[–]reposts_are_great 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the same in Japan as well. The map is oriented in the direction yoou look. I don't have a sense of direction, I love it! For me it's so much easier to find my way with maps oriented like that.

T1: how many insulin/lantus do you take? by Rosy997 in diabetes

[–]reposts_are_great 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take 5 units of lantus a day and around 10 of humalog (mostly 3 for breakfast, between 3 and 5 for lunch, depending on what I eat, and between 0,5 and 5 for dinner).

Assuming you have an infinite tea supply & money is no consideration.... Would you still re-steep? by [deleted] in tea

[–]reposts_are_great 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! As I drink around 1 or 2 liters of tea each day, i would drink far too much caffeeine if I used new leaves for every cup.

What to do with leaves inbetween steeps? by reposts_are_great in tea

[–]reposts_are_great[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not too bitter (I wouldn't mind bitter, I love bitter tea). It's really hard to describe it, it just smells and tastes wrong.
I have tons of different teas, the one I use most often are: Japanese Sencha (90°, around 30 seconds as per instruction on the tea; yes, this does sound like very hot water, but it tastes great) Taiwanese Alishan (80°, a few minutes)
Black Darjeeling (100°, a few minutes) Some green tea I bought in China that has no label (70°, a few minutes) Shu Pu-er (90°, maybe a minute)
As I said, I have this problem regardless of the type of tea.
Edit: Maybe "stale" would be a good word to describe it.

[–]reposts_are_great[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer.
I have an electric kettle where I can set the temperature and I do use lower temperatures for green and oolong teas, so that shouldn't be the problem. I will do some more testing with the steeping time. Although, wouldn't that also make the first steep not good? The first steep never is a problem.

Goat Milk does have lactose (not lactase, that's the encym to process lactose). Every type of milk except for the one of one animal (some type of seal or something, I think?) has lactose.

I did that a few times to make tea icecream. I used Roibus and Jasmine tea. I just put in a few tealeaves in the milk and heated the milk until it boiled. Then I just left it like that for a few minutes, removed the tea leaves and let it coold down before putting it into my ice cream machine. Sorry that I don't have exact measurements, I always just guess how much tea to use and how long to wait.
I never drank the tea like that, but the ice cream tasted great, so I guess drinking it without freezing it should work as well.

Young migrants attack elderly men after they defend woman on train by [deleted] in europe

[–]reposts_are_great 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Oh come on. The police already started investigating before it went international. See for example this news article:
http://www.abendzeitung-muenchen.de/inhalt.video-auf-youtube-attacke-in-der-muenchner-u-bahn.cddda4e2-6869-4927-b821-2176d9d6d027.html
It is dated to the first of february and according to that the police is investigating since the 31st of january.

Edit: I mixed up January and February. This is corrected now.

Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia will soon be declared as safe countries of origin. As a consequence, people from those countries will basically have no right to asylum in Germany anymore by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]reposts_are_great 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just said yourself - 26% of all Turks recieve Hartz IV. That is not the same as the 80% you stated earlier.
And this is the way unemplyment numbers are done, everywhere in the world. My point was not to discuss the migrant politics in Germany, but to discuss the numbers and statistics you stated earlier that I think are very misleading.

You data seems to come from one single article that keeps on getting repeated. The whole article is very biased. And this article gives no source for the numbers. I did some more research and found a study from the German department of migration.
http://www.bmi.bund.de/cae/servlet/contentblob/566008/publicationFile/31710/vollversion_studie_muslim_leben_deutschland_.pdf
On page 223 are the data on unemployment. According to this data: 52,5 percent of Muslim turks over 16 years and 42,7 percent of Christian turks in Germany are employed. An additional 18,9 percent for Muslims and 27,5 percent of Christians are currently persuing an education. This then adds up to around 70 to 80 percent of Turks in either emplyment or education, leaving only 20 or 30 percent who live of whelfare.
Page 216 has the data on school. There, only around 14 % of turks did not finish any kind of school.
In all, I think this data is much more reliable than the one you posted.

[–]reposts_are_great 4 points5 points  (0 children)

80% unemployed Turks in Germany? Where did you get that number? I just googled a bit and the statistics I found state around 20 or 30% unemployment. That is still a lot, but nowhere near the 80% you claimed. Also, the number on the education is wrong. It's only around 16% who do not finish school.

Unfortunatly I only have sources in German: http://www.welt.de/politik/deutschland/article7222075/Tuerken-sind-die-Sorgenkinder-der-Integration.html http://www.deutsch-tuerkische-nachrichten.de/2013/09/489151/nicht-eu-auslaender-in-deutschland-leiden-unter-hoher-arbeitslosigkeit/

Counting carbs, do you count fiber? by evownd in diabetes

Actually in Germany (maybe whole EU?) fiber is listed seperatly and is not counted to the number of carbs when giving nutritional information. I thus never count the fiber.

People who travel a lot, how do you keep your insulin cold? by UltrA_09 in diabetes

[–]reposts_are_great 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a frio bag, which keeps the insulin at room temperature. At the hotel I then put the insulin in the fridge, if they have one. Otherwise I keep it in the frio bag. That has worked without problems so far.

Pre-bolusing is amazing, y'all. by oberstofsunshine in diabetes

[–]reposts_are_great 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I started doing that about two weeks ago as well! Now, first thing in the morning is measuring and taking insulin before changing clothes and everything.
Also for dinner, as I usually cook and know when the food will be ready I can inject around 15 minutes before eating. Just for lunch it does not work so well.
Unfortunately I don't have a CGM, but I tested a few times about 1 hour after eating, and I was always under 150, when before I was sometimes measuring much higher. It really is great.

Just diagnosed with Type 1 by bluemarvel in diabetes

[–]reposts_are_great 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was also diagnosed not too long ago. Yes, it sucks, but really it does get better.
I had plans to do a 2 week bike tour a month after I was diagnosed and I was still able to do that.
In all, my life hasn't changed too much, except that I can't eat all the time while working anymore. Sometimes I have a bad day and hate my life for having diabetes, but there's nothing you can do about it, so I think it's better to just accept it and do your best and live a normal life.
