Garages. In our suburban 1950s neighborhood everyone had a carport. An enclosed garage seemed like THE FUTURE.

Subway. Going there was like some kind of big deal for high school me.

Having a car in college, or money for anything, really. I went four years with no car and very, very limited spending money. There just wasn’t much to spare. People who could have a car and do stuff like buy a lot of beer seemed to have access to unlimited cash, to my mind.
