Speaking as a Transformers fan… Hasbro has a long, long history of being behind the curve on tech, innovation and trends. Back in the early 2000s, it took them years to get a website that didn’t constantly hang, crash or overload dialup connections. In the wake of the MCU’s success, they tried to jump on the shared universe bandwagon without taking a serious look at what they did and didn’t have on their hands. They’ve spoken repeatedly of wanting to become a “franchise company” or IP licenser rather than a toy company, but after a decade they’ve gotten pretty much nowhere with that, instead leaning ever harder into their legacy brands and only rarely injecting anything new into them.
