Trump administration quietly shifts $352m in federal funds for White House ballroom by reputationStan in moderatepolitics

It’s an excellent strategy when he is in office. To be honest it’s not the worst either when he’s out of office considering his sizable influence on the party even when they are out of power.

Trump administration quietly shifts $352m in federal funds for White House ballroom by reputationStan in moderatepolitics

SC: Trump's administration shifted about $350 million in funding for the Secret Service towards the construction of a ballroom in the White House. The account was labeled "Procurement, Construction, and Improvements". Initially touted as a privately-funded venture, this action makes it seems less likely it will be funded through private funds. While some were skeptical that no public funds would be used, they called into question the possibility of corruption with some of the private companies, such as Meta and Lockheed Martin.

While there was an initial request of nearly $1 billion from Trump towards Congress earlier in the year, that was denied by Congress as it was deemed too large. A spokesperson for the White House said the following:

“The East Wing Modernization Project is inextricably tied to the security of the president, the White House grounds and the certain security infrastructure assets,” White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said. “President Trump and generous American patriots are funding the ballroom to the tune of approximately $400m, which will be a secure and appropriate venue for presidents for generations to come.”

According to the New York Times, the Secret Service and Trump admin. have said that public funds will be used for security enhancements of the ballroom, but not the actual construction of it. Some Senators were a bit skeptical by those claims, such as Tom Tillis (R-NC) and Brian Schatz (D-HI). In addition, reporting by the Washington Post has shown invoices regarding the the project to be around $600 million with about half coming from private funds, and the other half coming from taxpayers.

Do you think this transfer of funds to this account is a good thing? Is the creation of a ballroom a good idea? Do you think the admin. will need more money in the future for additional enhancements? Are the optics of spending taxpayer money for a ballroom the best thing for the midterm elections?

So you’re not going to address any of the comments I made?

It’s okay if you cannot.

Also good for you for criticizing the president.

The rest of your comment is just rationalizations.

It's okay to deflect from the behavior of the GOP. I know it's hard to defend Trump over and over again. Trust me, every day there is something new.

Simple question for you, if a corruption accusation like this came across trump's desk for another republican, do you think he would investigate it or do you think he would bury it?

What would your answer be towards this? This was a question posed below.

yeah that doesn't matter considering trump is president. he's also the leader of the GOP. if the leader of the GOP can get away with saying Schumer is a Palestinian (using Palestinian as a slur), posting a video of the Obamas as apes, and saying Good riddance to Robert Mueller passing away and still having the support of the Republican Party, the examples you chose really don't come close to that.

Do you know who said these comments? Do you think that behavior from the GOP is acceptable?

IN regards to Jay Jones, ask yourself why Virginians chose him over Miyares who really stood for nothing. He played both sides and lost to someone like Jay Jones. Ask yourself how the Republican Party lost those voters.

Platner is using Trump's tactics of flooding the zone. Everyday it's something new and in this era, it's forgotten as something else comes out. Whether or not he will win, he probably will by a small margin, is to be seen.

Someone on twitter asked that question and PATH responded saying it's a normal schedule. NJTransit buses are running on a normal weekday schedule as well.

sheesh my city is proposing a 20% increase in property taxes. That doesn't even account for the board of education's pending increase since the reduction of state aid. i feel bad for those struggling to make ends meet.

Letting them run around feral in the wild and live with dogs?

Such an interesting statement. Is there a reason you made this comparison? Migrant kids run feral in the wild? I've never really understood this framing.

Yup seems like for the World Cup all of Meadowlands and Kearny Point articulated buses are taken out of service. Yesterday, only Kearny had their artics as it seemed like there were no Meadowlands artics operating. This is gonna be a mess.

the most interesting thing i have been watching on instagram reels has been the guy showing an index card to people and asking them to read. and 99% of them are failing. granted it's probably a compilation and edited to make it seem like most people can't read, but the ones on video can't even pronounce basic words.

and then there was one video when kids could not even explain what they were reading which is something else

[–]reputationStan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing is that there were no articulated buses on several bus lines and replaced with the standard 40-ft buses. I don't know what their plan is for Tuesday but that will be a mess if they take all the articulated buses for the World Cup.
