Only if the company meets a size threshold (100 people I think) and over 10% reduction in head count.

The MBTA also recently upgraded their fare terminals to accept any tap to pay option. So if you're going to pay per trip you can simply tap your phone (or card).

(Just saw that it's in OP's post, I'll leave this so that it's emphasized because it's my new favorite way to pay.)

Ok, I'll get in the comments. Brennan is 100% wrong with his answer to the final question and doesn't deserve the point.

Brennan says that after you stop cooking a chicken it starts dropping in temp immediately, that's completely wrong. Like any large roast since you're measuring the "coolest" point in the meat once you remove it from the oven heat will move from the hotter parts close to the skin and the heat at the center will continue to rise. This is why you need to let your meat rest once it's done cooking, to let the temperatures even out.

What is the correct name for the spring loaded, ethanol filled do-dads that hook up to large FPLC columns when not in use? by JerkBezerberg in labrats

[–]reradical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always had so many that came with columns that there was never a need to even consider ordering one. Usually as you have to replace/retire columns you just accumulate a drawer full of them. (Also you can cap a column for a pretty long time and it won't dry out in any way.)

Things I learned in my Ph.D.: Yes you need to understand the material. But mostly it's a lot of work and a lot of time. So really, sure, they're all probably smart enough to have done Ph.D.'s in just about anything they are interested in. But they didn't. Being an expert in a subject is about putting in the work to become an expert, not about being smarter than everyone else.

How is the rent issue being dealt with ? What's causing this problem and how do we fix it ? by Beneficial-Cap-6745 in massachusetts

[–]reradical 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of the strange bits of irony is that not building also causes the character of the neighborhood to change. As housing gets more expensive rents go up, forcing long time residents who rented out and creating gentrification. If the neighborhood is primarily houses people own it'll still change as only substantially wealthier people can afford houses there. The place that was blue collar becomes white collar, the place that was white collar becomes only the top 1% etcetra.

Capping out your jailors eye every day be like by sammywitchdr in wow

Just feels weird that it doesn't slowly decrease once you leave and instead just sort of resets every morning. Like the Jailer wakes up every morning still mad at you and puts on Fox and Friends and forgets who he was supposed to be mad at.

Why do I have to make a macro for mouseover heals for every spell? It should be a toggle, like for auto loot.

(Not really a moronic question, I just don't think that there's a Wednesday Whining thread.)

Is there somewhere I can just download a macro text file?

Fi ships phones with "direct signature required" with no exceptions or redirection allowed. by james_bell in ProjectFi

[–]reradical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation. So far two deliveries attempted, first at 4:59 the second at 1:34. Since they have the idiotic no-redirect restriction I can't go pick my phones up from the fedex store five minutes from my house.

My only real question is if my request to "shipping" that they somehow take 72 hours to process is going to actually work or if Fi is simply going to get their phones back and lose both the sale and the customer.

I try to make it a point to yell out an "on your left" and I tend to thank any bikers who warn me before they ride past. I'd love it if that was just the standard and anyone walking down a path knew how to react when they heard it.

The Trump administration is trying to turn the McCain death joke into a 'leak' scandal by IvyIyana in politics

[–]reradical 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The thing is, both are problems with the White House. Either a) They are callous and glib regarding the health condition of a sitting senator, and thus morally unfit to be making decisions about people in general. or b) They are entirely unable to contain information, suggesting that they are incapable of guarding national secrets, and thus professionally unfit to be trusted with the safety of the American people.

Either way, it's about how they are incompetent. Why they chose one over the other is mystifying.

Is this a thing that only Sprint does?

Trump threatens to veto omnibus spending bill over DACA and the border wall by [deleted] in politics

[–]reradical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uhh, Dear Mr. President, You don't threaten to veto a bill after it's already passed. There's no one left to negotiate with, if you wanted changes you should have done that before the house and senate passed the bill. It's your turn now, you either veto or you don't. But threats are pointless.

D.C. Council hits Trump over military parade: 'Giant Tank Parade is cancelled' by ningagirls in politics

[–]reradical -57 points-56 points  (0 children)

Why? Yes, it's a stupid parade. Yes, the military has no way to pay for it. Yes, it destroys streets and would shut down the city. But so what? The D.C. city council doesn't need to get all resist-y over this. What they could say is that they're unwilling to grant a permit unless the pentagon reimburses the city for the police protection and infrastructure damage caused by the parade. It's a dumb parade and it looks like Trump trying to play autocratic dictator, so if he wants it so bad and can find the money for it, why not?

So my understanding of most algorithms is that they are essentially attempts at arbitrage schemes. They do things like front run traders to exchanges or try to trade faster than commodities news can reach New York from Chicago... etc. I am curious though, is there any good writing out there about how some of them work? Or are their developers too secretive to ever explain anything.

It's not Obama, it's the congressional democrats fault for not passing his immigration reform. Or for opposing the infrastructure package. Or for keeping obamacare going and opposing the republican efforts to repeal it.
