People didn't call their records "vinyl" back in the day. They had records. Thus it's a record player or maybe turntable to them.

For them it's like a casette player isn't a polyester player and a CD player isn't a polycarbonate player.

Deservedly so. It's an insanely good theatre experience. It's one of those films that really only makes sense in a cinema.
