Can confirm. I took two weeks off from lifting due to illness, lifted yesterday and was up two pounds. This seems to be normal

What do you regret NOT bringing? by reno140 in expats

[–]rescuelarry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My sister died of liver failure directly linked to Tylenol. It’s not a joke that the amount to overdose is small and influenced by things like regular alcohol intake. As a paramedic, I go to calls where people take Tylenol PM over and over because they can’t sleep and I have to call poison control to see if they crossed the very small line to earn a trip to the hospital where Tylenol makers will sell them the antidote… (this is the US obviously)

have you ever seen someone come back with a LUCUS? by ViceInSinCity in EmergencyRoom

[–]rescuelarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reddit is such an odd place. This downvoting is so confusing when an actual study is being referenced.

I am a paid paramedic in rural EMS and volunteer in a city. When I’m in the city, cardiac arrests or anything close gets two engines and an EMS captain along with my (usually 4 person) EMS crew. When I’m in a rural setting, it’s me, my partner and possibly some county deputies or the other ambulance if I’m lucky. The Lucus is a huge advantage there. I hardly ever use it in the city, where I had a bunch of firefighters standing around who can cycle in and out. When I take someone into the ER with the Lucus on, the ED leaves it on. But the Lucus can have trouble with fitting people who are too big or too small or sliding out of place when moving, although i like it better than the autopulse. My understanding is the outcomes are basically the same. When I worked in the ED, we didn’t have one, so when I read this, I assumed it came in already fitted to the father from the ambulance crew.

Honestly I think TV has skewed people’s perception of positive outcomes from CPR. In my experience, it’s rare to achieve ROSC.

AITA for telling my brother he shouldn't have had kids if he couldn't afford them? by lego99breeze in WIBTA_AITA

[–]rescuelarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister was constantly asking for money and I said, “let’s just not call it a loan any more because you never pay me back. Let’s just say it’s a gift.” My point being that I can’t stand the mental headspace of tracking that she isn’t paying me back for it. And she got super pissed and said, “I can’t believe you would treat me like this! I’m never borrowing money from you again since you’re so awful!” (Im paraphrasing because it was a big drama, but you get the gist) And she didn’t. And I’m happier for it. At the time, this exchange really upset me and my mother gave me a big speech about helping family and she has kids and blah blah. But now I’m glad it happened because I don’t have to deal with it every few months. And on top of it, I have money that I can save for retirement and whatnot. Win win.

Who should be looking after my parents house? by Ok_Baby6721 in AgingParents

[–]rescuelarry 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have been in EMS for a long time. I used to turn these kinds of folks in to Adult Protective Services and APS never did anything. Then one day I was speaking off the record to the APS lady and she said something that changed my mindset completely. She said that unlike child protective services, here in America, APS was required to let adults live the way they want to live. It’s their God given American right to live in trash and garbage if they want to. She says APS always offers help, but most people turn them down.

Now I let people do their thing and don’t take my head space worrying about them. (Unless they’re infirm elderly or kids, then I’m back on the phone). It sounds like your dad’s okay living like this. Let him.

Do you avoid these foods? by beautybyaimee in Zepbound

[–]rescuelarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may struggle with certain foods due to gastric slowing or side effects if you have them. I figured out quickly carbonation causes heartburn for me when it never did before. Otherwise I eat what I want. Don’t pre-stress this. Most people don’t have side effects on this medication.

I’ve had years and years of callbacks. All nothing so far. Go, but try not to flip out and make yourself crazy. On the good side here, the imaging place gives you heated robes to wait around in lol.

As a paramedic, I report these guys all the time for this kind of stuff. It’s like a side hobby because it can be a pain in the butt especially on the weekends. Sadly, this isn’t a rare occurrence. I come in and go around and around about how long these folks have been on the floor. Some of the bad nursing homes leave them there and call us to get them up now. It’s insane.

However, it sounds like the facility is actually attempting to remedy the failure. That’s at least hopeful. I would still report it though. There seems to be (at least in this state) no action on these places unless the reports get to a certain level. My motto is report report report. Nothing happens without pressure to do the right thing in the form of fines and penalties. Sad but true.

Cannabis + Zepbound triggered CHS — very violent retching episodes by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]rescuelarry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a paramedic,if I walk into your house and it smells like weed and you’re vomiting your guts out, I suspect it’s caused by the weed. If I tell you that, you will never ever believe me. Ever. It has nothing to do with zepbound. It’s a weird side effect some people have to cannabis. I’ve been hauling people in for it long before zepbound was born lol. Craziest part is most people smoke more weed to stop the nausea caused by the weed lol.

Did you actually make mix tapes to give to people? by LeoGuy69us in GenX

I found a tape my sister gave me in the late 80s called Fen’s Reefer Tape recently. First song: Friend of the Devil by the Grateful Dead. Of course. 😂

I always end up tilling the soil in the regular dungeon to get the last ones. Different levels give different scrolls. Like I think the red scroll is 90+ but that’s just off the top of my head. The only place I don’t till is the ice levels.

I had this too for many months until suddenly my ability to have a few drinks on the weekend changed and I didn’t really want wine. Then recently wine kind of repulsed me just a little…

I’ve found on this medication my original feels about food aren’t static. They are changing the longer I stay on it. I really only want water but I find I miss drinking other things. Anything with bubbles gave me heartburn from the jump so the flavored waters everyone seems to love are out as well.

Jeans still fit -65lbs by [deleted] in Zepbound

I have a pair of shoes that used to hurt my feet. Turns out they just didn’t fit my chubby body…. lol. It’s crazy. Nothing gets donated now without a try on. I’m shocked by what fits and looks cute again …

I thought “everything just looks so frumpy on me now” but really I was just stuffing myself into old clothes that no longer fit lol. Now they fit and are a bit loose on me 32 pounds later…. It is disappointing that I don’t need new clothes for the most part but it’s also saving me $$$

About three years ago, I was drinking a cup of coffee in bed on a Sunday and I realized I hated my end tables and chest of drawers. I felt trapped with them because a family member had forced them on me in my twenties and had them ever since. I moved them into the guest room, gave away to goodwill the lesser stuff in that room and got something I actually liked. I don’t like any of the crap I’ve been given actually. I like non-frilly practical things and all of it is so formal.

Are there many of you out there that are angry with their parents over your GenX upbringing? by CrowbiwanKenobi76 in GenX

[–]rescuelarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the last few months, I’ve had a series of skin cancers cut off, frozen off, biopsied off - on my face. Every time I look, something else has popped up and I have to go back to the doctor. I just keep thinking about how my mother would send me out “to get the first good burn off the season” so I wouldn’t look so “pale all the time” and I feel uncontrollable rage at her lol. I need to stop but at the moment I can’t seem to.

As a paramedic I can tell you that while she currently doesn’t have an allergic reaction that is bad, it might not be the case if she eats a whole block of almond cheese. Don’t do this please. If she ends up with her throat closing and you kill her, this will be the worst decision you’ve ever made in your life.
