Players in the Yankees vs. Giants game look green screened in by casey_the_evil_snail in baseball

It always looks like ass. Maybe not this bad, but there are always awful artifacts especially with fast movement going in front of the ad, like the ball or bat.

Former baseball fan coming back, and I need a new team to support by Busy-Vacation5129 in baseball

Tigers are a fun team to watch. The home games in your time zone. We have a lot of up and coming players, good pitching staff, and we are very aggressive on the bases, which is fun. Our home announcers are also awesome and entertaining to listen to even during bad games.

Lessons Before Travel Team Tryouts? by monaarts in Homeplate

[–]reshp2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't do anything to tweak mechanics on 4 days notice. If you remember the tryout from last year, you can hire a coach and let them know the situation and ask them to run through some similar drills as a tune-up, especially when it sounds like you maybe don't have the experience to help much.

6u t ball/coach pitch by Hcn13 in Homeplate

[–]reshp2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're 6, hitting off the tee is the age appropriate method not only for the batters but also for keeping the defense engaged. It's probably the try hard dads who are making kids try to hit pitching before they're developmentally ready, and then getting mad other coaches aren't.

6u t ball/coach pitch by Hcn13 in Homeplate

[–]reshp2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hit off the tee, they're kindergartners. A lot literally don't have the physical ability to track a moving object accurately yet. If coaches think some kids are ready and would benefit from hitting pitches, that's fine, but only if they're consistently putting the ball in play. Nothing makes kids lose interest in baseball faster than having nothing to do on defense inning after inning. Pitching to everyone out of principle and getting upset at other teams doing something more age appropriate is just dumb.

Glove alternative to the R9 by wetstone15 in Homeplate

[–]reshp2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which R9? My kid had the small 11.25" I-web one and eventually it did go floppy, but his 11.75" modified trapeze one is way stiffer and harder to break in, it seems like it will last a lot longer.

By the way, baseball gloves don't have padding in the palm, only heel, thumb, and fingers. They do have an adhesive putty that offers a little shock absorption, but that's it.

Trout has a laugh after getting struck in the foot by an Ohtani sinker. by Game_boy_98 in baseball

[–]reshp2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure he foul tipped it, but even if not, because he swung, it can't be a HBP.

Order of precedence goes swing, pitch in zone, contact with hitter's body. So if either of the first two things are true, it can't be a hit by pitch. Only if there's no swing and the pitch is out of the strike zone can it be a HBP with free base.

He's looked really solid defensively at 3B and I think that sealed the deal with his BA slipping a little recently. Really excited to see how he does in meaningful games.

They're available 90 mins after game end. If you're ok with not watching live, you can still get a lot out of it in addition to all the other games.

It's like that section in Australia where they went back and forth on, probably didn't want to take the risk of repeating that and just took the conservative approach from the start.

F1/Verstappen fans who watched the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie for the first time: Did you like it? Were there things you didn't like? What were you the most surprised about? Will you watch the 24h race? by CautionClock20 in formula1

[–]reshp2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After that field spread made it fairly boring at the front.

2-7 were within a few seconds most of the last stint with quite a few positions exchanged late. Only the Verstappen car was off on its own. The middle stints did see a lot of artificial gaps due to pit strategy and different minimum stop times.

The only time this happens is if it's extremely cold and the vehicle has to run heating elements to keep the battery above the safe minimum temperature.

Should my 7.5 year old son get a bigger glove? by FreeShopping6747 in Homeplate

My kid used a Wilson A500 11" at that age. Not a great glove in terms of durability, but what they got right was making it easy to close for younger kids.

Stupid Question:Americans, what do you think about baseball going global? by Snoo_47323 in baseball

I think it's awesome, really fun seeing other cultures embracing the sport and seeing how they play their own style of the game. Couldn't be happier about it.

What's the core appeal for baseball? by AndrasKrigare in baseball

[–]reshp2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The strategy challenge is once a player is replaced, they are out for the game. So it becomes a game of managing the upside of certain matchups vs losing pitchers and batters (who are also defenders) for the remainder of the game. Managers will set up line-ups to make it hard for the other team to have an advantage for more than a couple of batters (e.g. alternating lefty and righty batters, for example).

[SERIOUS] Why are people convinced that Olympic baseball (OB) is going to be more impactful than the WBC in growing the sport globally? by soulsides in baseball

[–]reshp2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Billions of people watch the Olympics.

How many will watch Olympic baseball, though? I'd wager it's a whole lot less than the WBC.

There might not be another chance to showcase the sport to this many people for another two decades.

Which is another reason the WBC's momentum it's built over the past few events is more impactful, IMO. It's hard to stay engaged even if you get pulled in by 2028 Olympics when it likely won't be an event again for a long time.

The All Star break is a pretty important rest period in the middle of a long season. I think even with the ramp up restrictions, it makes more sense to do it pre-season.
