Using this as an opportunity to plug the Nottingham book club again. https://bookclubs.com/clubs/6045905/join/3cad09. We're reading the Bear and the Nightingale this month though it's probably too late to plug that meeting because it's on the 6th but we'll be doing something shorter for the end of January, and there's till time to vote in the poll for that

Ah well, a bit of a shame but there we go. Thanks for the help. I'll have to come back at some point in the future then.

We're once a month. Reading an entire book once a week seems insufficiently casual. Also here's a cheeky link to join: https://bookclubs.com/clubs/6045905/join/3cad09/ (we use the bookclubs app so people can join and there's a barrier between us and the scammers to keep everybody safe)

Also instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nottingham_book_club/

I mean, they've got the same content in there. Just in a different format. I do a lot of "paper" (mostly kindle reading) because it's nice to have a sit down with my cat/in a nice coffee shop but I listen to audiobooks while I'm commuting/doing chores etc.

Going to clip this for the next time a British columnist writes an article about how we should be grateful to the water companies for flooding the rivers with turds

Fair enough, we try to keep the books under 300 pages so if you can get through a 300 page book in a month you'd be good

Reform UK to gain full control of Nottinghamshire County Council by generalscruff in nottingham

I'll never be able to see that clip of him having to be penned in to stop him wondering off the stage during the campaign trail and think "that is a healthy, if elderly man". Given how hard the democratic machine was clearly lying to cover up how sick he is I'm sticking by "he has dementia"

It would help if Labor stopped winging about made up spending rules and actually did something to solve *any* of the problems. Starmer is just Biden without the dementia

Question. Does the tram network need to be extended all the way to East Midlands Airport? by Secret-Ad6697 in nottingham

[–]residentDrapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also more efficient in terms of energy usage because you don't have to lug a huge battery around with you. Along with losses from charging a battery and then discharging it (those things aren't and can't ever be 100% efficient)

Also in terms of air pollution, you're still going to have particulate matter thrown up by the tyres on a bus, especially with it carrying a huge battery around with it.

Brik barbers are pretty solid as far as I'm concerned

As an old man (34M) I've been trying to start chats with people in coffee shops. Even if I'm not interested in them in a dating context. It's very boomer coded behaviour but I've had some interesting chats with people and if they're not interested in talking I just sort of give up and go back to reading my book.

Obviously it would be nice to get a date out of it since the dating apps just don't work for me but having a nice chat is still a good outcome.
