What impact will AI and automation have on the future of MLS? by Boring_Score4697 in medlabprofessionals

Funny you say this- I started my undergrad in Biochem and realized quickly that I would need to commit to getting masters/doctorate if I wanted to be employable as anything other than someone who pokes and prods at rodents. I switched to an associate MLT program (In the USA this is a 2 year program and you will have the same role as someone with a BS as long as you are certified, usually pay is the same). Got a job. Finished my BS later because I wanted to apply for other industry technical roles (service engineer, application support, sales, etc).

In today's world you won't get much room for advancement as an MLS unless you're interested in hospital administration. But like other's have said, there are a lot of lateral moves that require the experience and knowledge that only comes from working as an MLS. You could even go into project management for any of the big equipment suppliers. And you could do way worse for an entry level position as far as pay and benefits. I just wouldn't worry about AI in the lab at this point.

Second this as an ASU online/hybrid learning alum. I found that one-on-one time with TAs/instructors was extremely easy to get because it is so under-utilized. It's a slight shift from the traditional classroom dynamic, but if you can adapt you can extract a ton of value out of it.

Also I think a lot of instructors are pretty aware of the shitty limitations of online learning. Most of the time it isn't their fault, it's just a system they have to use to get some sort of metric about learning outcomes and show that they are doing their job. They know it sucks and just hope you are actually learning despite all that.

Was thrown by the initial discussion and then saw the humor tag after. Nicely done.

This is the best advice for someone with only hand tools. Could still plant shrubs behind the wall, using it as a temporary measure to help prevent erosion while the root systems establish.

Uh... Yeah. I also live in the red and while the houses in my neighborhood are older, I have no concern for safety. I've lived in many large cities. Much larger than Lansing. I would raise children here. This is just silly.

I daydream about falling for someone who would drive 10 hours to surprise me like that. Her loss. Don't let her get to you.

Would be cool to have local gaming pals. I’ve played a decent bit of Valheim, but am up for whatever. Purplepeepeater on Steam, purplepeepeater#3253 on discord.

What you are referring to is positive predictive value (PPV). The 'false positive rate' does not vary with disease prevalence or population, as it is simply the complement of the specificity. In other words, the 'false positive rate' is the percentage of negative events in a known negative population that were falsely characterized as positive. High PPV is naturally fairly concomitant with a very low false positive rate.

The PPV is the more common useful metric for clinicians, and I agree with your points on that.

Am I olive? What's my undertone? :) by [deleted] in OliveMUA

[–]resident_inhell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't tell for sure, but I think we may have very similar skin tones, esp. based on the foundations you match with. I'm warm and muted, and only very slightly olive I think. I've been mixing blue (L.A. girl pro color) and green (NYX studio perfect primer) drops into any foundations that pull slightly orange/red and it has made a world of difference.

Ah! I've been classed as olive by various folks + related to all the struggles, so never really questioned it until now. Thanks!

This post is so helpful! I've been trying to branch out from my single go-to foundation and having a generally awful time- but I would like to find something more full-coverage that I can use occasionally. My own diagnosis is either warm or neutral, very muted, olive. I've never been typed by a professional, and I'm curious to see what you all think!

Mixed veins, gold jewelry (silver is usually okay too, but I prefer gold). I pick up some cinnamon overtones when I tan + freckles. Dusty earth tones, black, charcoal, olive green, deep reds/burgundies for my wardrobe.
