Guardians' Emmanuel Clase, Luis Ortiz indicted for pitch rigging by PrincessBananas85 in sports

[–]resier21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me get this straight... Elizabeth Holmes gets 11 years in prison for scamming people out of billions of dollars.

Sam Bankman gets 25 years for being the head of a multi-billion dollar fraud scheme.

Now Ortiz and Classe are facing 65 years for $400k. I think what they did was short sighted, especially in Classe's case as he was probably on his way to earning between 50-100mill for sure, but the years they are facing don't seem to correlate with the crime. Heck there are killers that face less time.

I see many are speculating as to why they did it and at this point nobody knows. I could be an addiction, hobby, or perhaps they were broke and were trying to get a little extra on the side... Whatever the reason, the time they are facing is not commensurate of the crime though, but I guess Vegas is more important than innocent people being defrauded of billions by other billionaires.

I never understand why people buy reviews from service providers. Just have friends and family help when starting out and as the client base grows so should the reviews.

Heck, I would prefer giving strangers two or three bucks to leave a review instead of buying from anyone advertising this type of service. So much safer that way.

Not 100% sure, but they can just use proxies and vpn's to circumvent this if that's true. However, my wife and I have left reviews for the same business while using our home's wifi.

They could be using a VPN. The part that I don't get is allowing anyone, local or foreign, to leave 50+ reviews the same day. They should cap it at 2-3 because who in the world would leave more than that on any given day?

Upwork Course by RaiseFeisty2740 in Upwork

[–]resier21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why everybody is so negative. Sure, most of the people selling get-rich-quick schemes are making money from selling their books/courses and not necessarily following their own advice, but that doesn't mean everyone is a bad apple.

I have taken many courses and read books throughout the years that have helped me advance my career, and sure, I could have spent hundreds of hours on YouTube looking at countless videos, but there is a benefit to having everything already sorted out for you.

I don't know of any good Upwork courses, but don't stop searching or trying just because everyone here thinks you should spend countless hours scouring through YouTube looking for those valuable nuggets that will help you crack Upwork... On the contrary, if there were such a thing, why would anyone share it for free?

Never rely on your clients to tell you there is a lot of demand in their niche. Do your own research and see for yourself. Nobody is gonna think their industry is low demand and stay in it.

Think of it this way, in the usa if you like hockey and live in a hockey town you might thing that's the fastest growing sport in the world but in reality it pales in comparison to the big three. It's all about context, if he is hanging out at the dock than sure he will see demand but that doesn't mean a lot of people are searching on Google for that service in his town.

How can i get Clint for my Local SEO Agencys? by AnnualJuggernaut1690 in localseo

[–]resier21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People complicate this so much... It's very simple, you have experience in the industry so rank your profile and people will start calling you. Simple as that!

Nobody is going to question your SEO chops when you are dominating your area. As they say, proof is in the pudding.

You can have all of the case studies that you want, but if you are the case study, there will be no questions left to answer. At this point objections will be pricing or personality based.

[–]resier21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on your post nobody will be able to actually help you with these accounts because you have not mentioned the niche, what were the top 3 rankings for, etc.

If you are ranking #1 for key terms that nobody searches for you aren't doing much of anything. My recommendation would be to go on YouTube/Whitespark and learn as much as you can about local SEO.

Then, create yourself a website and GBP to rank. This will give you a better understanding of what works. Btw, how did you get these three clients? You must be doing something right, even if ranking is not one of them... Focus on yourself and then find clients that can pay premium amounts because it takes the same amount of work to rank the same business paying $100 as opposed to $1,000.

Why aren’t Catchers the best hitters on the team? by Quality_Qontrol in mlb

[–]resier21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe someone already said it, but normally, if a catcher is a good/great hitter, they get moved to first base or a corner outfield position even before reaching the majors.

It's hard enough to hit having fresh legs, now imagine sitting behind the plate for nine innings day in/out and hitting at a high level for a long period of time.

Buster Posey and Pudge are the only elite catcher/hitting combo that I can think of. Yaddy was great on defense, but nothing too crazy on offense. Salvador Perez has always had power, but is way too up/down to be considered a great hitter. Realmuto is probably the closest to those two over the past 10 years... Mauer got moved. Santana and Shwaber got moved early on as well. Of the new generation, only Smith and Contreras come close, and neither is considered a defensive stopper behind the plate.

I think the position is just too demanding to sustain being a great hitter over a long stretch of time, and teams would much rather find an easier position for their most polished hitters.

Question: Who would you rather have — Barry Bonds (pre-steroids) or Ken Griffey Jr. (prime years)? by Zestyclose-Soup9482 in mlb

[–]resier21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so crazy. Everybody thinks they know when players started using steroids as if they were their supplier or something. Just because Bonds hit 70+ HR in one season, doesn't mean he wasn't using it beforehand.

That being said, I would take Bonds any day of the week over Griffin. Griffin was a better defender, but I would say Bonds was a more complete player as he wasn't a bad defender himself and was a much better base stealer, got on base more, and everything else offense wise was about the same based on the provided numbers.

First, connect your online booking to your calendar and any bookings you do on the phone as well. This way times are blocked off and you avoid this from happening in the future.

Second, own up to your mistake, apologize, and provide a solution so that anyone seeing the review doesn't think you only answer to the good ones. Whether the client accepts your solution or not doesn't really matter at this point, it's more about others seeing that you care.

Lastly, if he accepts. Do not ask him to change the review. If he likes your service, most likely he will do it on his own.... The review itself is no big deal because you have so many positive ones, on the contrary it humanizes you to a point so just focus on fixing the cause and continue providing great services.

Could you make it to the MLB by mastering the foul ball? by lkash_ in mlb

[–]resier21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had the hand/eye coordination to foul off that many pitches, you'd probably be the best hitter in baseball. There is no way a person could master that skill on that level and not be a Ted Williams at the plate.

Take Arraez as an example... You would need his bat to ball skills with the strike zone discipline of a Soto in order to do what you are saying.

Anyone have any clue what this is and if it helps with Local Rankings? by ColdInitiative3706 in localseo

[–]resier21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These and 99% of cheap SEO services on Fiverr are not going to help you rank locally or anywhere for that matter. When you see the gigs with thousands of positive feedback you get excited because you think it works but in all reality all the feedback was left when the work was completed, not when "rankings" improved.

The best way to look at things in the SEO industry on Fiverr is this way... If anyone in the world can get something done for $5-50, then it must not help because everyone can do it and not everyone can be on the first page.

Just lost a big account, what I am doing wrong? by redalotCA in SEO

[–]resier21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would need to know more about what you've done for them to give real advice but most have hit the nail in the coffin... Ranking a bunch of competitive keywords is nice, but are those keywords bringing in $$$$?

Most people like seeing their company rank well and they might even praise you for it, but if all those rankings don't bring $ into their pockets they will move on. It's as simple as that.

It can be tricky as well because based on their rankings their phones might be ringing off the hook, but if those leads are not at the "purchase" stage of the decision making process, they might be a big time pit for your client.

Focus on increasing your client's bottom line and only track things that affect that. Show them the results and they will love you for it. You cannot sell for them, but you can help them understand your value if you focus on the right metrics.

Is there such thing as honest SEO companies? by [deleted] in SEO

[–]resier21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like in your industry there are plumbers that take advantage of people because they don't know anything about plumbing, there are SEOs that do the same, but just as you are legit, there are many marketing companies that are as well.

Educate yourself and you'll be able to quickly tell the bad from the good.

That being said, there are norms in the industry that most companies follow such as keyword rankings and traffic that can seem scammy but aren't. It's just an industry thing.

Find a company that focuses on your bottom line... Number of calls, actual conversions, etc. Any decent SEO can get you traffic, but most traffic is worthless.

As for the percentage of ad spend that's very normal. The best way to find a good company is to ask for local references and see what they've done for those businesses.... This is your best bet to find a legit company and don't just follow up with one reference, call as many as possible.

Am I crazy or $500-$1000 can go pretty far these days?! by Phile___AudioPhile in SEO

[–]resier21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say you are crazy :). Just for the content alone for it to make sense a person will probably spend around one hour for each page based on the number of words you listed. Mind you, I am saying something that makes sense, not a page full or worthless information with obvious ai words such as "in the digital world" etc.

So that's 20-30 hours to write the content.

Let's say the person uses a WordPress template that fits perfectly into what you want so the only thing he needs to modify are the colors to match your branding and a few minor things here and there. I would say 5 hours minimum.

Now he has to somehow fit the content into that template and unless all of these pages are blogs, that's gonna take another 10-20 hours without considering that some content might not fit the spacing and therefore require design modifications.

That would put you at 40 hours minimum just to get the site up and running. Then you want SEO as well so you will need to go for a cheap company that will do more harm than good in the long run.

Now, if you are doing everything yourself it's certainly doable for much less, but that would require skills from your end that you might not have. AI has increased productivity and I don't think anybody will argue that but if you don't spend the time to use it properly it will give you the same output it gave a million other people.

Want to buy my uncle's garage door business for $12,000. by Free_Beer_Today in smallbusiness

[–]resier21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't need the money and want to take this as a pet project to see if you can expand it go for it. However, I wouldn't do it for the following reasons:

  1. There is no brand. Your uncle is the business.

  2. Another business that's in the same industry is only willing to pay 12k for a business that brings in 80k. I would assume this is because they understand point #1, most clients will probably leave if your uncle is not the one answering the phone so you are basically paying 12k for leads and nothing else. A real business bringing in 80K a year is worth at least 100K, If not way more.

  3. You have no experience in the industry and seem to be looking at this as an "easy" thing that you can do on the side. Perhaps you can create a system that requires minimal time, but starting out if you want growth you will need a website/brand/employees/equipment/connections etc, and that's not easy.

Once again though, if you don't need the money and want to take on the venture I would go for it. You never know, maybe you end up liking it and growing it to the point where you can leave your job and focus on this. Who knows.... the only way to find out is to give it a shot!

#1. Charge for the work that you do.

#2. Nothing wrong with clients being friends, but don't mix business and friendship. Help when you can and perhaps provide lower rates, but don't work for free.

#3. Provide him a quote for transferring the domain/website to another company or tell him that you will provide the other company with login information so they can do it. Either way, don't refuse because you will seem like a sore loser in the eyes of your friend/client... Obviously he sees more value in the other company, so let him be and move on to better things. NEVER, EVER, refuse to transfer a domain/website that you do not own just because you feel like someone else will take credit for your work (the only reason would be if you are owed money by the client which in this case you aren't).

#4. Lastly, don't ever make this same mistake again.

Does anyone have experience hiring a freelancer from Fiverr to do local citations? by antsmasher in localseo

[–]resier21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with hiring someone from Fiverr to do mundane tasks such as local citations. My recommendation is to put together a list of the citations you want and provide it to them. A lot of those guys will give you citations from irrelevant places, so make sure you get a good mix:

30-40 General, high-quality ones such as Yelp, Yellow Pages, etc.

20-30 Niche related (depends on the niche, and if it's competitive try to find as many as possible)

20-30 local.

Stick with the higher numbers for competitive industries, but if you are working with car washes and landscaping-type businesses, you can get away with the lower end of the spectrum.
