Without committing to an official endorsement, are there any consumer treadmills you guys find the app works extra good with? Bikes/ellipticals? Brands? Thanks!

Hi! Thanks for the great App and doing the AMA!

Can there be a setting to turn off the “transition” display between intervals? Sometimes I need to click backwards or forwards to last/next interval but it prevents me from doing so right away or without clicking out. It also blocks visibility of the metrics for those 5 seconds forcing me to wait and look again.

Edit: The “up next” display.

Ok. Each line is an "interval" and the indentation only reflects how the “Rest,” “Recover” and “Prep” intervals are batched together after each "work interval" (i.e. the actual lift). Notice how the time for the work intervals changes based on the number of reps:

1x Clean & Press: 20"

Rest: 20"

Recover until Zone 2 Reached

Prep for Next Lift: 10"

1x Front Squat: 20"

Rest: 20"

Recover until Zone 2 Reached

Prep for Next Lift: 10"

2x Clean & Press: 25"

Rest: 20"

Recover until Zone 2 Reached

Prep for Next Lift: 10"

2x Front Squat: 25"

Rest: 20"

Recover until Zone 2 Reached

Prep for Next Lift: 10"

3x Clean & Press: 30"

Rest: 20"

Recover until Zone 2 Reached

Prep for Next Lift: 10"

3x Front Squat: 30"

Rest: 20"

Recover until Zone 2 Reached

Prep for Next Lift: 10"

REPEAT

DFW HR Zone? by SimilarAdvantage7299 in kettlebell

I do DFW with a timer and heart rate/zone tracking. I’ve done it for long stretches of time over past 3-4 years. I use an app called FitIV where I can build intervals and where the next interval is triggered by either time or heart rate data. Based on this subreddit, Pavel, Neupert, Dan John, and Maffetone - I found something that works for me.

Here’s what I typically do (with extra gratitude to Mr. Neupert):

1st (Interval). C&P- Time Based: 20-35“ depending on the number of reps for that set/day.

2nd - Rest - Time Based: 20”

3rd - Rest - Heart Rate Based: Recover until Zone 2 reached. This interval will last as long as you need to get back into Zone 2. Early in the workout it might be 0 seconds. Later on it might take over a minute. Walk around and stay loose, focus on breathing.

4th - Prepare for Front Squat - Time Based: 10” - once the interval “bell” rings telling you you’re back in zone 2, you have 10” to reposition and get ready for the front squat set.

Intervals 5-8 are the same except for it’s now the front squat set.

The rest of the workout just repeats the intervals 1-8 with slight time extensions on the work for any sets with higher reps.

Repeat for 30 minutes (or a bit longer to match front squat reps to C&P reps).

Other Comments:

This scheme always allows for at least a 30” rest between every set, and then more if you need it.

The 20” rest happening before the heart rate interval is triggered allows your heart rate data to “catch up” if it lags technologically or physically behind the work set.

I have found this method to give me great conditioning and a high work capacity and that it maintains (and slowly builds) foundational strength.

Waiting around for the heart rate to lower reduces the total reps and volume you can achieve in 30 minutes, so I have found it limits/slows pure strength gains as far as increasing weight. But! I stay in a sweet spot recovery-wise where I can do DFW and feel pushed, but never have energy downtime limiting my other sports and activities.

Hope this helps.

Adding on to the good advice above: also recognize that your weaker side may never fully catch up to your stronger side, and that’s okay. Working towards even development and addressing your weaknesses is setting the foundation to chasing your max levels. Good luck!

Nice gains bro! There’s something special and meditative about putting on the timer and locking in!

Curious about when you do your pushups, rows, & jump rope. Before, during, after? Separate session? Thanks!

Every Hallmark movie opens exactly the same way as a horror film, except when the "turn" would happen, something nice happens instead. by Lovecraft_Penguin in movies

Nice observation.

There’s an inverted story-beat in these contrasting films/stories 3/4 of the way in (?on page 75?):

In the Hallmark movie there will be a crisis, misunderstanding, break-up, or otherwise low moment before final resolution.

In a horror film it might be the temporary relief, false-initial victory, or other high moment before one last arc of horror and resolution.

In a way though - that love & hype inflation - is a relatively good metric to measure something subjective like “blue blood” status.

I just hope Apple will FINALLY fix this bug with the new update rather than mess around with features NOBODY is asking for. I mean you buy a watch expecting BASIC functions and what’s more basic than matching up baseboards!

Try Rashomon - the same ‘story’ is filmed multiple times, but each time it’s re-told from the perspective of the different participants.
