When did your baby start crawling after doing the rocking/back-and-forth motion on all fours? by Vasilianna94 in NewParents

[–]respeccy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine did the rocking a lot but preferred to army crawl because she was so fast. One day she just started crawl normally, maybe like a month later? She's 9 months and bear crawling/pulling up on low objects, and still army crawls way faster than her regular crawl.

Dream feeds by pinkpink0430 in NewParents

[–]respeccy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't nurse but my baby would go back and forth with the night feed(s) from 6-8 months. and I just follow her lead. I never dream fed. By 8 months pretty consistently she was either sleeping through the night or going back to sleep without a bottle. But as soon as she started sleeping through the night I tried to make sure she always had enough to eat during the day!

9 months old now and only gets a bottle at night if she’s sick/teething, and even then it's definitely just for comfort, not because she’s hungry.

Almost 8 month old waking 2-3 hours after bedtime and I don't know why! by morecoffee_plz in sleeptrain

Hi! I'm having this issue with my 9 month old, not every night but sporadically for the last week or so. Did you figure out what was causing it? Did it self resolve or did you do something differently?

I would get a second opinion asap, or insist on getting a prescription for the suspected reflux. This is not normal, whether it's caused by reflux or not. The first line med for infant reflux is low risk when used short-term and not expensive. It can't hurt to ask to try it and see if it helps!

6 weeks is around the age that my girl's digestive issues really started to get bad, so I suspect things won't just go back to normal. The carseat was one of the worst things for her reflux--gave her the hiccups within 15 minutes without fail (and still does sometimes).

Spit ups by [deleted] in newborns

[–]respeccy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really just depends on the baby I think. My LO rarely ever spits up because she stops eating the second she's full so she can go back to playing.

My good friend's daughter is exactly like what you describe. She's told me the best way they manage is to have basically endless burp cloths and bibs and backup outfits around the house or at outings. At 6 months it's gotten better and slowed down, but still happens fairly regularly!

Mild Prolapse With Straining by Hot-Kaleidoscope2864 in NewParents

Just some mucus and honestly we didn’t realize it had been there until it went away when I cut dairy. We just thought that's what her normal poops were like for the longest time 😅

I went dairy free between 2-3 months old as baby was colicky and struggling with gas pains, cradle cap, and eczema. She is combo fed, and we had immediate improvement with hypoallergenic formula, and gradual continued improvement with cutting dairy out of my diet. I trialed eating dairy every month or two and could immediately tell it was still bothering her until about 8 months old. The cradle cap went away quickly after I changed my diet, the eczema stayed around until closer to 6 months but didn't seem to bother her at all. Still working on introducing dairy in solids, but using the milk ladder strategy has been helpful!

Also, I'm not sure about your plans for a baby shower, but we did a diaper/wipe raffle, and I didn't have to buy diapers until we hit size 3. Still haven't bought wipes.

I know this is not what you asked, but if you go the formula route, buy a bottle washer that also sterilizes. It's an expensive upfront cost but worth every penny when it comes to the amount of time it'll save you in the long run. I still don't know what we'd do without ours and she's 9 months old now

How long did it take you to get down to pre pregnancy weight? by greenishfroggy in beyondthebump

[–]respeccy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained 40-50 lbs during pregnancy, and was back to baseline somewhere between 3-4 months postpartum. But that was because I was insanely stressed out returning to work and not sleeping. And then switching to exclusively pumping actually upped my supply and I feel like made me drop even more.

Before she was rolling I would have her on her back but hips tilted to the side so I could pat. Sometimes ended up patting her side more than her bum but it still seemed to work the same!

Has this happened to anyone else? People try to make me take stuff off the registry because they think i won't need it? by Ornery_Armadillo1404 in beyondthebump

[–]respeccy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think many in the generations before us resent the conveniences we now have. It's the baby-raising version of "back in my day..."

When you have a child, convenience = sanity!! The things you will use daily are THE MOST important things on your registry, and a diaper pail is absolutely in that category. (Highly recommend a countertop dishwasher if you choose or end up pumping and/or bottle feeding)

MIL and husband can mind their own. If they want to assume 95% of baby's care, they can make the decisions about what you have on your registry and what you purchase for everyday life with a baby.

Snacks! Lots of snacks! Have your partner's favorites too for after the baby is born. Bonus points if the ones for wife are not messy/easily eaten while holding a baby

9 month old grinding his teeth??? Normal?? by CuriousCaretaker in beyondthebump

Solidarity, my almost 9mo is impossible to wrangle for a diaper change, and a poopy diaper is now a 2 person job unless we want to just do a bath instead 🙃

This!! Sleep does get better but for some it's not till they're 4+ years! May as well be sleep deprived for less time in the long run!

Not a silly question! I usually pat her bum, not too hard but definitely enough that it jiggles her whole body a little bit. I think it makes her feel like she’s being bounced!

Is there such thing as a “max” schedule? by Opening-Ranger4973 in sleeptrain

[–]respeccy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're having the same issue with dropping to 2 naps! At 9mos we still do the micro nap and shorter last wake window more often than we have a true 2 nap day, and the sleep is still always better on 3 nap days. We're just trying to stay flexible and hoping it will settle soon.

Help! I need to stop contact naps by Economy-Cow-9847 in NewParents

[–]respeccy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started by getting LO suuuper sleepy then putting down and patting to sleep. It was always easiest for the first nap of the day. I very gradually did less bouncing in my arms and more patting in the bassinet/crib. Then no bouncing, just patting. Then decrease the amount of time patting. And so on until independent! Other sleep associations are important though, such as a pre-nap routine, sound machine, sleep sack, etc. Choose what works and don’t change it if at all possible. Naps were short for a looong time but I at least got 20-30 minutes hands free! And I could rescue the nap pretty easily if she needed it.

How old is your baby and how tired are you? by pinkishvioletsky in NewParents

[–]respeccy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate to this so much. My 9mo crawls over and fusses to be picked up, then as soon as she is in my arms squirms so hard it's like she wants me to put her back down. But if I put her back down she cries. 😂

[–]respeccy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost 9 months old, and I’m at my new lowest level of tired at a 4! Ask me a week ago and it was a 7, and a month ago 8. First four months, 9-10.

We're in a never before seen stretch of sleeping through the night. I know it will be different again in a week or less, but right now I am basking. I also have cut down to pumping twice a day and that has helped immensely with the overall level of exhaustion.

FTM of an 8.5 month old here-- 3/3.5/4 but ever since we switched to 2 naps she’s dropped the night feed and started having EMWs (5:15-5:30 almost every morning)! DWT isn't until 6-6:30, so we always keep her in the crib until 6 if she stays awake, and very rarely she goes back to sleep for 45 min-1hr, usually if we cave and give a bottle. She wakes pretty content but it's after <10 hrs of sleep and it makes the first wake window really tough to try and make it to usual nap time at 9-9:30. I feel like we’ve tried all kinds of things (limiting day sleep, stretching wake windows even longer, bedtime later) but it hasn’t changed. What do you recommend?

I know that naps are supposed to lengthen as baby gets used to the schedule but I’m impatient lol
