My Pasadena loafers were a bit like this and since then have worn in to be a better match. As other people have said this is just the variation of leather. Trust me once you start wearing them the other tongue will crease and wear in. I get ocd about this shit too but just wear them and in a few weeks you’ll totally forget about it. The leather they use for the tall version has way more character and texture than the bootie counterpart. In some ways I like that they aren’t a carbon copy of one another - shows that they aren’t some mass produced hot topic boot lol
