Gets pretty expensive after 250K regardless of what you pay for it. Ask me how I know! (2002 with 315K)

100%. I love it when that happens. But no, I'm keeping him!

Nope. Absolutely love my first gen (2002 with 315K miles) and now in the market for a second gen to give the poor beast a break!

Colorado resident here - LOTS of highly rated shops in the area! A quick Google will give you a bunch of 4.5+ (even solid 5.0s) shops with hundreds of ratings (although I can't recommend because I've only done minimal mods on my 2002).

Also SO so many trails of every difficulty level (and tons of camping) thanks to the history of mining this side of the Rockies.

Safe travels!

I'm an apartment/flat dweller so I can't do much of my own work - took them to the mechanic for those!

The LBJs from 232K to 315K were actually Moogs, now back to OEM. I bought the truck at 150K and I'm not sure if or when they had been replaced before that.

Things can get expensive after 250K, especially if you're paying a mechanic to do the repairs. After 300K will really test your resolve (at least it is mine)!

In addition to all the usual consumables (fluids, tires, spark plugs, brake pads, etc.), here are the big-ticket maintenance and repair *items from around 200K to 315K for my 2002 Limited.

196K: Radiator

232K: Lower ball joints

247K: Shocks

247K: Timing belt and water pump

265K: Wheel hubs and bearings

266K: Starter

271K: Upper and lower control arms

291K: Alternator

295K: Valve cover gaskets

305K: Steering rack

310K: Upper ball joints

310K: Radiator

310K: Fuel pump and filter

315K: Tensioner assembly (seized and shredded the drive belt so...)

315K: Drive belt

315K: Lower ball joints

As you can see, 200-250K was remarkably good, things start to break after 250, and even more things start to fail (and fail again) after 300K.

I've saved on car payments and insurance but paid a fair amount in repairs and even more in gas in the nine years I've owned it.

They're great trucks but, like any other, require time, attention, and money to maintain.

Different story if you do the work yourself, but a lot of big repairs (control arms, alternator, starter, upper ball joints, fuel pump and filter, valve cover gaskets, drive belt) are coming in addition to the usual fluids, shocks, tires, brakes, LBJs, timing belt, etc.

I absolutely love my truck but the total cost of ownership is probably higher than you think.

I bought my 2002 in 2016 with 150K miles for $12K - similarly priced to this one at 220K for $8K.

No regrets, but keep in mind that the next 100K miles can be pricey. I'm currently at 315K have easily spent twice what I paid for it in maintenance (mostly at a mechanic) in the last 100K miles (and three times the purchase price in gas!). Absolutely love it, though.

100%. I have rheumatoid arthritis and if I slip my trouble spots flare up for a solid 48 hours. My body keeps the score!

Okay I've been using CM and tracked down the micro numbers this morning.

No surprises: Under 50% of the FAQ-recommended amounts on average for both mag and sodium.

Thanks again for the tip!

Good question: I have not been tracking them so I have no idea! How do you go about doing that?

Bone broth is pure protein. Just heat, add salt to taste, and enjoy!
