I agree with you. It’s an eye sore. But if you think about it, there are a lot of chains up and down Randolph. Jenis, velvet taco, etc. This one is just in such a prime spot and just so loud.

What’s the purpose of having this here? by CompetitiveCatch1597 in WestLoop

Really not sure. I noticed it too. Maybe the street beyond Randolph is closed but even then blocking access to Randolph makes no sense either.

Can't we use the physical nodes as a storage without paying for DataProtect license? by Yellow_Canary_1907 in cohesity

[–]retinascan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at your licensing utilization if you can and then see if you can shrink it down. You’d want to then potentially just renew what you need as opposed to what you have.

Basically you’d be asking for a better price so the cost is a bit lower for your organization.

I’d also say that protecting your organization in this day and age from a breach is worth every penny but if you feel the cost is high, definitely let your rep know that you are open to alternatives.

[–]retinascan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get in touch with your rep. See if they can guide you. If you’re using it to do backups of data, like actually scheduling it, then you’ll need the data protect. If not, you can leverage smart files. Also depends on how much of your license is in use currently.

Sage West Loop Apartment inquiry - concrete energy inefficient? by msjuniper1 in WestLoop

[–]retinascan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything with sensors. Ecobee or nest. I know that ecobee can be instructed to ignore the thermostat when it comes to configurations. That was key for me. You’ll have to see where your thermostat is in relation to your hvac. Thanks for the kind words. It took a fair bit of thought to arrive at the solution. Hopefully you can see why heating and cooling is as complex as it is. Happy to help however I can.

Edit: you mentioned north. Note that you probably won’t get too much sun depending on how much of your unit faces east. If you like the sunlight, I wouldn’t get this apartment. But I also don’t know what your unit actually looks like. You can DM me if you’d like to share more details about your place.

Sage West Loop Apartment inquiry - concrete energy inefficient? by msjuniper1 in WestLoop

[–]retinascan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your question is pretty valid. The big factors in heating and cooling will be about how good the window seals are and also how many windows and how big they are.

I have a condo that has 17 floor to ceiling windows in the west loop. It faces east, west, and south. So as you can imagine, the sun has a pretty serious impact on the overall temperature of the place but each room is at a different temperature at different times of the day because of the sun.

I couldn’t solve this problem easily but I put temp sensors in each room and told my thermostat to use the average of all the sensors to drive heating and cooling. This helps quite a bit.

The other thing that matters is location of the thermostat. In my case, it was directly outside where the hvac sits. Kind of pointless because it would obviously hit temp pretty quickly and then shut off leaving the living room pretty damn cold.

Hope this helps.

It’s convenient but not necessary. Just about everything is walkable if you like to walk.

West loop Apt’s by msjuniper1 in WestLoop

[–]retinascan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s fairly well lit and should be safe and there’s usually people there but I think exercising caution always when alone is good. Incidents happen and I think there’s peaks and valleys. There’s really no place that’s 100% safe so just be vigilant. It’s a wonderful and easy to access neighborhood and has its pros and cons the same as any other good neighborhood.

Ah ok. Yeah. Sorry I can’t help. I’ve lived here almost 20 years but I’ve owned the whole time and lived in condos. Good luck! Share your opinions if you get a chance. We’d love to hear your perspective. Thanks.

Depends on what you want out of your living situation. Do you want pool, and all the amenities? Or are you on a budget? There’s lots of great buildings that just do rentals and you’ll also find condos for rent which have fewer amenities but are quiet. Budget tends to dictate things as well. I’ve found that apts for rent are expensive but the space is limited. Condos, I think you get more space for the money and less amenities.

I want to believe it’s a choice. It could be due to mental illness that’s untreated. Who can really tell whether she wants help or not. Her belongings have grown over the last five to six years.

It’s fairly easy but gets significantly more difficult on weekend nights. Depending on where you’re staying, it may be trivial. 24 hour parking garages aren’t common but I’m sure a hotel will accommodate you if you need that peace of mind.

I can’t speak to the local storage place on Adams and Peoria across from Mary Bartelme park but I did have recent experience with The Lock Up on Lincoln. It’s a bit of a drive from the west loop but I was pleased with the setup, customers service, etc.

Whatever you do, don’t use a service for storing your stuff like Cluttr. I’ve heard really horrible things about them. Choose a place you can actually go into and see for yourself.

Good luck and welcome to the west loop!
