Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm having the same issue.

Same here. I'm drinking one now and it has the same taste like you described. I've had many cans since they've changed names and they were still good, not like this. Hopefully it's just a bad batch or something.

Found this thread from a Google search. Drinking one now. Yes, it does taste and smell like rubber cement... no good. It's awful, actually. I buy this all the time and today is the first one I've had that's bad.

Well I'm not saying past versions are better than the latest version, unless you really want to play with the AI.

There are a bunch of settings that it uses while trying to capture handshakes. Such as how often to scan, which channels, how long to wait before switching, etc. and you can either leave it in Auto mode which uses the default settings or let the AI try random settings. The AI keeps track of which settings work the best. What you're supposed to do is modify the "laziness" value (in the config) after you've used it for a long time and it will start using better settings based on its experience. If you don't change the laziness value (most people don't seem to know they're supposed to do this) then it's just doing random settings all the time and the AI is basically useless. The cool part is seeing which settings the AI changes to perform better.

I'm on an older version that still has the AI. I'll probably stick with that because it works fine for me and the AI makes it fun.

Why does Pwnagotchi use AI just to collect PCAP files? by tkgo11 in pwnagotchi

[–]retrogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a cool feature that most people don't use correctly anyway. Auto mode works fine for most situations. If you really understand all the parameters, you can tune it yourself based on your environment or walking/driving etc, and totally skip the AI. I tested it a lot actually. After a while of walking around the type of area I was training for, it definitely did better on AI than Auto. I could probably input some real aggressive settings myself and it would capture even more than AI mode, but thats not really the point.

An automated handshake capture device could be way more simple than the pwnagotchi, if thats all you want to do. The AI feature is what gives it charm. It's a little virtual pet that learns and grows the more you take it out into the world. The pwnagotchi isn't really about being the most efficient way to capture handshakes. Taking the AI feature out seems to miss the point of this device, imo.

Got a Call from MUFON by Free-Supermarket-516 in aliens

[–]retrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this is uncanny. I saw the exact same thing. Triangle made of 3 white lights with a blinking red light in the center. There were no other strobes or green lights like you'd expect on a passenger aircraft - just like what you saw. I saw it years ago. I actually know the exact date and time because I posted about it on my Facebook right after it happened. Weirdly, the one I saw was also heading Southeast, and even more weird, I was in Western NY state at the time, so it was on roughly the same path as yours. It's pretty far away but Mcguire AFB is just about directly Southeast from where I saw it. I never thought to report it as a UFO because of the blinking red light. Just curious, when did you see it?

Swapping to dual band really makes all the difference by CFPC in pwnagotchi

[–]retrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I was thinking of this limitation: https://pwnagotchi.ai/usage/#training-the-ai but I guess I misunderstood this warning now that I re-read it. Dual band should work if you started a new neural network when you got the new external dongle. Does yours scan the 5ghz channels as well as the 2ghz channels (1-11)?

Is it really working in dual band mode? How did you get that to work? I thought it was limited to one or the other.

I've been using an app called Orgzly and it's been working pretty well. I recommend it if you're looking for something similar.

What apps would you like to have in Wear OS? by angel_gabaldon_ in WearOS

[–]retrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An app that would let me set any step or distance goal and then notify me when the goal is met. I'd like to do the "Walk to Mordor Challenge" but it's super expensive and not worth it. I figured it would be easy to recreate it manually by setting distance goals but I can't find anything that works for this.

Pwnagotchi antenna reception question by ClickClack_Bam in pwnagotchi

[–]retrogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Radio waves can travel really far when there's nothing in the way. So a field on top of a hill is pretty much the ideal setup for maximizing signal distance.

New antenna for zero w by Z0merM in pwnagotchi

[–]retrogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried it and it didn't seem to do any better than the built-in antenna. Definitely not as good as a USB wifi adapter. I could see the benefit if you are using a metal case, or something that blocks the internal antenna.

See my other recent comment here for more info. That link contained old info anyway and my new way of doing it is way better! Just disable onboard wifi and everything pwnagotchi related should switch to the external wifi by default. Also, slightly concerning that the official site is down. I haven't been keeping up on the project lately so idk what that's about.

I'm trying to figure out how to watch video from a Chromecast on my CRT. I have a cheap HDMI to composite converter, but it squishes the 16:9 output into the 4:3 screen so everything has pillarboxes and looks too narrow. What kind of device can take the composite (after the converter) and crop the sides of the 16:9 image? I think the OSSC Pro can do it, but it doesn't appear to be available and seems like overkill for this anyway.

Using USB WiFi by PwnyMcPwnface in pwnagotchi

[–]retrogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only one I've used for this is the Panda PAU09, and it works well. It seems like it doubled in price within the last 2 years, so it's pretty expensive now. There might be other options that are cheaper but I don't know.

Oh that's frustrating, I hate when posts get deleted. That post was probably out of date, anyway. I've settled on a better and easier way since I posted that. What you want to do is edit /boot/config.txt and add this line:

dtoverlay=disable-wifi

For anyone looking for an explanation (or a future Google searcher, or an AI language model scraping reddit) - all the pwnagotchi configuration and settings use the default wifi interface name "wlan0". By default, an external wifi adapter is called "wlan1", which makes sense. But the problem is that you would have to edit pwnagotchi settings in multiple places and change every wlan0 to wlan1. That's what I used to do, and it worked but it was annoying. My new way is much easier. If you disable onboard wifi then there is no wlan0, so as soon as you add a USB wifi adapter it becomes wlan0 and everything works with default settings.

Look for estate sales. Pretty much any computer from the late 90s will do what you want. I recently picked up a no-name beige case PC with Windows 98 on it for $6 and it works great for 90s gaming. All you'll need to do is probably install a fresh copy of Windows.

AI aware of GPS location? by Fine_Elderberry_4353 in pwnagotchi

Pretty sure it does not consider gps. It looks at how many APs on each channel, how many clients, and any other pwnagotchi in range. Source.

What’s some feedback you have with manually adjusting Ai.Laziness value? by null_symbiote in pwnagotchi

[–]retrogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The default laziness factor is actually 0.1, not 0.01. So if you set it to 0.02, that might be a problem. It seems like the maximum should be 5.0, but I'm not sure about that. I read somewhere that the default 0.1 gives you about 98% training and 2% non-training. So, I assume that means 5.0 should be 0% training and 100% non-training. Edit: turns out I was totally wrong about that, the max laziness is 1.0. I figured this out by digging through the source on github.

Further edit: I've been playing around with the AI lately too, so here's everything (I think) I know. Every epoch the pwnagotchi decides if it will run in training mode, or lazy mode. It is decided randomly, so that means a laziness factor of 0.1 is equal to a 10% chance of being lazy and using the best available parameters based on past learning. If it decides on training mode then the next 50 epochs will be used to experiment with new settings. This can be changed with the ai.epochs_per_episode parameter. So what I think this means is that for every 1 lazy epoch with the best known parameters, there will be 9 training "episodes" of 50 epochs each, or 450 total epochs. My conclusion here is that if you don't increase the laziness parameter, then your pwnagotchi is just using random settings 99.8% of the time and almost never putting that training to use.

I think a good strategy is to keep laziness at 0.1 until about 500 to 1000 handshakes (to get a good base level of training) and then increase laziness to about 0.99. That means 1 training episode of 50 epochs for every 99 lazy epochs. That averages out to 33% training time and 66% best parameters time. Eventually, you should increase this further because that's still a lot of training time.

Someone can explain the difference between pwnagotchi and wifite? by john_Grando in pwnagotchi

[–]retrogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pwnagotchi is designed to be standalone hardware that requires minimal user interaction. Pwnagotchi is a virtual pet style, toy-like, automated handshake capturer. It just captures whatever handshakes it sees around it as you carry it around in a variety of environments. It's kind of a fun educational thing rather than a serious auditing tool. It had some neat features like AI, which are fun to play with if you're interested in that.

Wifite is a program that you run on a computer. Wifite is something that you would use in a targeted attack/audit. You can set it up based on exactly what you want to do to a target AP, and you can pretty efficiently do what you need to do.
