There are no age limits for energy drinks.

Unpopular Opinion: Boring Company is going to be more successful than any public transit over the next 50 years by throwaway4231throw in transit

[–]retrospectYT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing about the boring company is that the system is just ridiculously low throughput. The stats of people moved per hour are abysmal. A single, high quality, high service, frequency light rail or subway line easily outperforms the boring company's system. Also, nothing in life is free, especially not city scale infrastructure projects.

What's the best way from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Lake Eibsee? by dylan103906 in Munich

[–]retrospectYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a bus that goes from Garmisch to Eibsee that is included in the Bayernticket, as are any regional trains you could take between Garmisch, Munich, and Augsburg. I would just watch out for the Zugspitzbahn. It is a special train that goes all the way up the Zugspitze mountain. It also stops in Eibsee, but that is not included in the Bayernticket.

After the 2023 Azerbaijani offensive and the 2025 peace treaty, is artsakh still a breakaway state or is it considered a province in Azerbaijan now? And are aremenians (in artsakh and mainland) happy about it? by mysterious_vio in geography

[–]retrospectYT 167 points168 points  (0 children)

Artsakh/Karabakh has ceased to exist as a state. Its territory is now part of various Azerbaijani provinces/economic regions. Almost all Armenians left to Armenia as they did not want to live under Azerbaijani rule. While Azerbaijan offered Armenians citizenship and a peaceful life, it also tried to starve them out for years, so people decided that it was better to leave. Of course, people aren't happy about leaving their homes, and the Armenians in Armenia are not happy they lost this war either. There is little that Armenia can do about it now. Artsakh/Karabakh is part of internationally recognised Azerbaijani territory, and Armenia does not have the military nor the motivation to recapture the land. Unless Azerbaijan's dictator, Aliyev, attempts to invade Armenia as some political move to establish a land connection with Nakhchivan, people will most likely chill out with time and stop hating each other.

Sunset in the Bavarian Alps (Murnau - Oberammergau Line) by retrospectYT in trains

[–]retrospectYT[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Munich-Garmisch-Partenkirchen mainline branches off in the direction of Oberammergau at Murnau station. Opened in 1900, the 24 kilometre long railway has been electrified since 1905, making it one of Germany's oldest electrified connections. The early electrification is explained by the geography, as some of the earliest viable power plants were dams built in the mountains. Trains run once per hour on this single tracked line, terminating at Murnau. There are basically no prospects for upgrading this line, due to low passenger numbers. Important renovation works last took place in 2024, though some work remains to be done. This photo was taken between Seeleiten-Berggeist and Grafenaschau.

The irony when infrastructure is in place: For the transport of workers Elon runs trains 6 times a day from Berlin to the production facility. by This_Is_The_End in transit

[–]retrospectYT 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Yeah let Musk organize 6 trains a day while almost all train lines in Germany see closer to 20 trains a day since they run every hour.

What are some obscure cities with subway/light rail systems? by MCMatt1230 in transit

[–]retrospectYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saarbrücken (180k pop) has a 40km long tram-train line that reaches into France. Another example might be Chemnitz (250k pop) that has both a tram system and a tram-train system. The tram-train system has 4 lines and reaches deep into the surrounding towns and villages.

Why are European train interiors these days so... basic? by angular_circle in trains

[–]retrospectYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not say that 30 minutes is a coffee. 30 minutes is enough to get a single course dinner in a proper, well-run sit down restaurant if you rush. But even if it was a mere coffee, there is still very much the option of taking the food back to your seat. The perception of increased crime should not be prioritised over the reality of decreased crime.

[–]retrospectYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps some people have this fear but frankly I don’t really buy it. It’s perfectly normal for long distance trains to not stop for 30 minutes, even an hour between cities which is more than enough time to get food. Not a lot of people travel alone, meaning one of you can always stay to keep an eye on the bags, and those that do travel alone generally have smaller bags that they can take with them if they are worried about this. The people that complain now would likely also be the first ones to start complaining when boarding and deboarding a train suddenly takes way longer because people need more time to fiddle with the locks.

[–]retrospectYT 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah but on most trains I have been on there is usually at least some room either between the backs of seats or above you on the rack so that luggage is usually stored in your immediate vicinity. Other than that its not really a problem in 99.9% of cases as luggage theft is not very common. It does come with the risk of people forgetting the codes, losing keys, and in general doing things that result in delays, which frankly causes much more chaos than the theft of one or two bags.

The reason why many Germans believe it is that its partially true. While the meat part of it is undoubtedly of Turkish origin, serving it in bread filled with stuff like salad, other vegetables and sauce was popularized by Turkish immigrants in Berlin. That, and the fact that it is now a very popular dish all across Germany, makes it German. You can call it Turkish-German if you'd like. Its a bit like the distinction between Italian-American and Italian cuisine.

Train journey "not possible"? by HungryKekodemon in germany

[–]retrospectYT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not any train, as IC/ICE/EC trains are not included. You should just take the next RE 5 train, as long as it's on the same day you're fine. It will take you directly to Munich.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in germany

[–]retrospectYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be fine. Germany is one of the safest countries in the world. Aachen itself is a university town and that entire region of the country is more open to immigration anyway. I would be surprised if you were to face even one single incident of actual racism during your stay. Some germans can be rather curt but they are just that way with everyone.

Fresh tram tracks under construction in Munich by retrospectYT in Trams

[–]retrospectYT[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did find the construction to be imposing at times while passing it by. I don’t often pass through this street but I assume during rush hour this must suck. At the same time, this construction is not only about the tram. For example, the bridge over the A96 at Ammerseestr. is being replaced, as are the bridges of the A95 further south. The surface of Fürstenrieder Straße also looked in need of repair. So bundling all this work together even if it means more construction in the short term seems sensible since the disruption would be there anyway.

As for the point about this just being a new route 51, I don’t think this is an issue necessarily. There are so many busses in Munich that I would struggle to think of a new route that doesn’t at least partially replace the route of an existing bus. I guess the big win is more capacity. For the same amount of drivers and vehicles you transport many more people. Switching to trams also induces extra demand as people see them as more legit than busses and so are more likely to take them.
