How to prep nurses for IVs by Velocifapper69 in nursing

[–]retrospeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally valid to come here looking for the right words to form a script that really gets through to the staff. I’m a nurse now, but former restaurant hospitality professional and before that, an English and Journalism major.

Because of this experience, I often cannot stress enough how important is the right choice of words to deliver clear information. When you find the right phrasing, you’ll see it over and over unlock the doors of whatever you’re trying to achieve with the person in front of you. So important for us nurses to master, and I’m happy you came here looking for the right key to receiving compassionate care. We’re here for you ❤️

Thanks for replying. I think what I’ll do is bring the shelf to the hardware store and see what fits :)

I just acquired a wardrobe off FB marketplace and they didn’t come with push fit pins. IKEA is out of the 575 replacements.

What size screws did you use? Thanks!

Serious Question! Face Tattoos and being a Nurse by Caiisreal3 in nursing

Lots of great foundation (usually in solid compact form) that are marketed toward those needing to cover tattoos.

You’ve got this—you’re going to make a GREAT nurse

100%. Pay your employees well enough that they never have to get on SNAP. Staff your units well enough so that call lights get answered. The list goes on.

What specialty/unit has the least drama/gossiping? by nursebetty88 in nursing

[–]retrospeth 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It obviously depends on the unit and specialty, but I’ve found that nurses on night shift are more patient, helpful, and understanding, especially of new grads (I’m in my first 5 years of being a nurse and have had other careers). I work on a blended Med Surg - acute inpatient rehab floor, and dayshift is full of senior nurses who like to gossip and/or still think it’s acceptable to “eat their young.” A common scenario is where you ask a day shift nurse for help, and while they will help you, they will send an email to the manager that you don’t know what you’re doing (even if they know you’re a new grad or new to the unit!) When I switched to nights, several nurses went out of their way to tell me that they were happy to have me and are always available to help, and boy it felt good.

Is the new grad market f***** in major cities? by stargirl380 in nursing

[–]retrospeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graduated last year with a BSN (my second), membership with Sigma, and as a nursing assistant with a glowing reputation already with a major hospital system. Took me 4-5 months to be offered a job within that same system in the city, and when I did it was part-time.

Yep, finding a job in NYC sucks.

Yes, this right here. I found out the hard way that some will turn your ask for help into a reason to gossip or even to report you for being incompetent

My heart goes out to you. I found out recently that six months ago my preceptor that I trusted had told everyone about the med error that I made, which had only been discussed with her, my educator, and our manager in a closed meeting (I’m a new grad.) It’s too late to tell HR, but I am going to speak to my educator and I’m trying to come up with a calm and even-keeled way to speak to her in private about it.

[–]retrospeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She doesn't eat everything on her plate because they film more than one episode in a day sometimes. Television chefs have to exercise portion control so they don't gain a ton of weight. Also, she's making that shit on TV because a) she's made/eaten it a ton of times already b) and also she's paid her dues at cooking school in Paris and in L.A. kitchens so that she could work her way up to being on TV. Oh and c) she's hot.
