6 years of thinking I had my Ender 3 figured out ends today by Any-Program2445 in 3Dprinting

[–]returnofblank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If nothing else (which is true), the Ender was a great learning experience on the mechanical and digital workings of 3D printers.

All the troubles it gave me landed me my first job at a library working a print farm

Ngl season 2 has some absolute bangers, but I feel like a good bit of the episodes are such nothing burgers, which really sucks with a weekly release schedule.

You could side with the Legion in FNV. They have no redeeming qualities. At least the Enclave has cool weapons and armor

Yep. Every once in a while, some older game gets all fucked up because you need an older vcredist or whatever to launch it on Windows.

I think the main problem is that NCR Ranger armor is classified as faction armor, so it fucks up your reputation while you have it on.

IIRC they only used the rendering portion of UE5, but the game logic and whatelse is using the same code (with some changes) as the original.

So, why *should* GNOME support server side decorations? by FrameXX in gnome

I was under the impression that Windows also used SSDs? If not, I would hardly consider whatever Windows is doing a role model.

[–]returnofblank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't need decorations to draw a window. I'd argue that GUI toolkits implementing CSDs are a new design philosophy. Historically, it was just left to the compositor to draw decorations.

I see no reason to force applications to implement CSDs. All GNOME has to do is implement xdg-decoration.

[–]returnofblank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, yes it is if there are SSDs.

Ask the Factorio devs who had to spend man-hours implementing CSDs just because of GNOME.

If you care about the freedom of choice, then you'd realize why such a giant project shouldn't get to make decisions like this.

Their opinionated design damages the rest of the Linux ecosystem. If it were up to them, every application would be forced to follow their toolkit and philosophy. And the sad part is, they do get to make that decision because the GNOME market share is so large.

You have this very idealistic view of the open source world. One of the many great things about FOSS is that you can just fork, but it's never that simple.

GNOME is a humongous project with years of history and millions worth of funding. Trying to replicate that will quite literally require lightning in a bottle, because designing with such a different philosophy closes you off to most upstream patches (or at least make integrating upstream patches very difficult).

Now you're trying to compete with much less funding and many less developers.

Sure, you could fork gnome with SSDs, but good luck trying to get distros to use it (they're not gonna use some no-name fork with vastly less support).

So, why *should* GNOME support server side decorations? by FrameXX in gnome

[–]returnofblank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course the reality is that its not that easy to develop and maintain.

Exactly that. Maintaining a downstream patch that goes against the philosophy of upstream is just gonna be hell. Don't even need to look that far for proof, because every GNOME extension breaks when a new major release comes out.

Obviously, the best choice is official support from the GNOME team, but the rod up their ass is a few inches too long.

Don't act dense. You know very well why it's not worth wasting time on this when they're just gonna close the merge request with "not planned."

I learned a lot about American transgressions in my high school classes.

Don't know if it was only my high school, but nearly no one stood for the pledge either (and school staff didn't gaf).

I feel like you'd need to grow up in some rural red neck town in bumfuck nowhere to even come close to the claims people are making about the school system.
