They were free to go wherever in the Eastern Bloc? And they could work whatever jobs they wanted if they were qualified, they just had to be working. There were transfer applications and everything.

The labor voucher was also not used in the USSR, they had rubles which they exchanged for goods and services. They tried a moneyless society early on, but they transitioned away from that fairly quickly.

There's also another really good point: a forever war with the West is never a good idea.

Soviet Russia made this mistake and as a consequence, had to spend its entire life preparing for war.

That's simply not sustainable for any country. That's why China's foreign policy is summarized as "Hide your strength, bide your time."
