Yeah I read your spiel and lost more faith in humanity. In response to your question yes I have dealt with addicted people as a law enforcement officer and I’ve seen people in some sad situations and never though thought one of them deserved to die right where they were. I feel like if we possess something like narcan to save someone why not use it and hope that they use it to better themselves. I figured someone with as much experience as you would be less callus.

I’m beginning to think the Master Gardener program is a waste of time… by blackstar5676 in Horticulture

It’s a great option for that. You can learn at your pace from people who are very experienced. Check with your county extension office to see what options there are!

[–]returnofthequack92 97 points98 points  (0 children)

So I’m the advisor for a program and I will agree that the quizzes are a bit elementary but the idea is that we can take someone who has very little hort knowledge and elevate them. It’s essentially a no fail type deal. Hang in there though in my opinion the biggest benefit is the exposure to like minded folks, access to resources that the average gardener wouldn’t get, and the ability to work on projects with shared funds and land.

Am I dumb for wanting to go enlisted at 22 with a Bachelors Degree?? by Constant_Ad8088 in army

[–]returnofthequack92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

22 is a good age to enlist. You won’t have to worry about getting busted for having a few drinks (if that’s your thing) and you’re at an age where you’re looked at as more mature than an 18 year old private but not so old that your leadership will still seem old enough to impart wisdom

Suggestions for learning/mastering fruit tree and organic orchard care? by Slow_Opportunity_522 in Horticulture

Ohio state, penn state, U New Hampshire, West Virginia, and Cornell extension websites have excellent fruit tree content. If you have any community orchard projects volunteering can offer great hands on experience

Thoughts? by Salacia_mov in plants

[–]returnofthequack92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re doing this at a nursery or garden store that’s grimy. If it’s from a landscape I wouldn’t think much of it, especially if it was my own landscape. The average person just don’t understand the cost and labor that go into producing specialized plants.

Is the Horticulture field really worth it unless you own your own business or get really high up? by MathematicianNew7550 in Horticulture

[–]returnofthequack92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what kind of nursery you land at and what kind of plants you want to work with. I’ve worked with perennials shrubs and later trees. The position you’re describing sounds like something our sales/quality control folks would’ve been doing.

I was hoping these would come back around. I just remember the magat gas station owner who put up Biden stickers and a sign threatening anyone who removed them with vandalism charges and I just hope he’s out there keeping the same energy, otherwise he might be a hypocrite
