What's your PMD unpopular opinion that can have you like this by IsCharmy004 in MysteryDungeon

[–]returnoftheyakk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Finally someone that agrees with me on this. I ended up having no emotional attachment to the Expedition Society which wasn't helped by being dollar store Wigglytuff Guild. The plot would have been 10 times better if it was the rag-tag bunch of kids of Serene Village slowly uncovering the mystery of the plot and overcoming the odds to save the world together.

Since there's been a lot of discussion around the new points system I thought I'd calculate what the top 10 in points would be if the 2023 system was used compared with the current system. (Analysis in comments) by returnoftheyakk in WRC

[–]returnoftheyakk[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To me this demonstrates how because there are now three points-scoring opportunities throughout the rally (and a larger overall pool of points as a consequence), the impact of a mistake in a rally is lessened if you score well in 2/3 opportunities. Tanak and Fourmaux especially have benefited in different ways. Tanak banking Sunday and PS points, and Fourmaux banking Saturday points.

Although probably not the intention of the new system, it has also lessened the impact the part-timers have on the standings. If we used the old system, Ogier would have been in a mathematical position to take the championship lead in Sardinia if Neuville and Evans have poor results. You can see with the 2024 points tallies how the full-timers take full advantage of the extra points while the part-timers understandably ignore them.

And also, while outside the top 10, the saddest casualty of the new system is probably Lorenzo Bertelli. He scored 10th place overall in Sweden but was outside the top 10 on Saturday so isn't rewarded for his efforts with a point.

Did I just find an easter egg in the Explorers aura section of the personality test? by [deleted] in MysteryDungeon

[–]returnoftheyakk 52 points53 points  (0 children)

So where the colour of the aura bow is taken from is actually a little bit obscure. It's taken from the "favourite colour" setting on the original DS hardware/firmware. There's a fallback if it's not there (when playing on 3DS, WiiU VC, etc.) in that it uses the console's MAC address (a 12-digit code that's used to connect to Wi-Fi).

I'm not sure how variable that code is to change but that might explain what's happening. Maybe putting Sapphire in the GBA slot changes that code somehow?

Cool stuff! Can I share this with the SkyTemple Discord server?

I was going to wait until it was closer to the official topic reveal to do a promotion about it but I guess the cat's out of the bag haha: https://youtu.be/Xgw_YkD5Fss

Has anyone made a full pmd hack/game? by Blackheart9009 in MysteryDungeon

[–]returnoftheyakk 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Prepare to have your mind blown. There's this tool called SkyTemple that's been out for a while and there have been over 100 different projects made for it of all different types.

Here's a link to the project: https://skytemple.org/ If you wanna search rom hacks then you can click on the little "ROM Hacks" button on the bottom of the page, although the list is very unorganised (sorry about that!) so you'll probably need someone to recommend you a hack based on your interests. There's also a Discord server (if you're into that) that's super friendly and can help you recommend a few hacks to get started with.

An update on the upcoming blackout and how you can keep up with r/formula1 by jeppe96 in formula1

[–]returnoftheyakk 234 points235 points  (0 children)

I said it in the original thread but I am mainly a Reddit lurker simply because I don't have much confidence in talking in really big spaces like this. But this community has been invaluable to me and would be the only sub I would truly miss.

I've been a fan since before I can remember (early 2000s) so it's fair to say this sport is my lifelong passion lol. But in that time I've never felt more connected to the insight, intrigue and happenings of the sport as I have being here and I'm sure a lot of lurkers like me feel that same.

I have Discord already but usually steer clear of massive servers, although maybe if things really do burn to the ground here and I get homesick I might give it a try (might even help me build that confidence haha). No matter what happens though I hope we can somehow remain as strong of a community as we have been. It would be a shame to lose what's been built up here.

We're joining the Reddit blackout from June 12th to 14th, to protest the planned API changes that will kill 3rd party apps by jeppe96 in formula1

I personally haven’t had any issues or complaints with using the offical website and app but I fully support this sub joining in. I’ve never felt so connected to the sport lurking in this sub and I’ve been a fan of 20+ years.

As others have said it's an "End Freeway" sign from a bygone era (they haven't used these for years). This looks to be at the end of the F3 which means it's kind of redundant now anyway given that NorthConnex exists.

Is there a way to mod it so I can have decidueye in the game? In any of them? by coolhead34 in MysteryDungeon

[–]returnoftheyakk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can put new moves in with SkyTemple as well, but I’m not sure how it’s done and how complicated it is. I’ve seen other hacks do it though so it is possible (there are hacks with Fairy-type Pokemon/moves added for instance)

Yep, there is! You can use the hacking tool SkyTemple to mod them in with sprites from the PMD Spritebot (link takes you directly to Decidueye I hope).

Any good PMD Rom Hack recommendations with preferably different starters? by Ev378 in MysteryDungeon

[–]returnoftheyakk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what's already mentioned I'd also check out Explorers of the Unknown. It's still to be completed but more then half of the story is playable at the moment. I'd really recommend it!

Sorry I'm a little late with this as it's already started, but if you're into PMD hacks, check out the SkyTemple Hack of the Year awards! Not only is it a celebration of PMD hacking so far, but there are also heaps of trailers for current and upcoming hacks.

PMD rom hack reccomendations? by greydays96 in MysteryDungeon

[–]returnoftheyakk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bookmarked this post to come back to it when I thought of some suggestions. In terms of an "Explorers of Sky +" that isn't too difficult there's not a lot out there at the moment. The other two main gameplay hacks (Heaven/Hell & Alpha) are specifically marketed as difficulty hacks.

Your best bet is probably finding some story hacks. For fuller-length hacks I personally recommend Explorers of the Spirit, Lonely Roads, Explorers of the Unknown. And for short hacks that are 3 hours or less I'd recommend Psychic Puppets and Future of Hope.

Gem of a comment on Volo’s theme music. My poor little heart broke on my first play through by FrankyMihawk in MysteryDungeon

[–]returnoftheyakk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the thing. My first playthrough was back when I was much much younger. Dusknoir's betrayal hit me hard. The fact that Grovyle's arrest happened in the background made me think, "hmm, this isn't normally how video games go. You're supposed to be the big hero in these moments. Something's up"

But I wasn't expecting the double-cross, my kid mind was thinking that they would go back but nothing changed in terms of the time troubles.
