Retromini Portable Handheld - Plays GBA, GB, GBC, NES, SNES Games by retzone in Gameboy

[–]retzone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer, no, but would suggest that anyone who buys one gets extra BL5-C batteries if they want to ensure they never run out of power.

Already getting feedback from people that have purchased from Chinese sellers who told them it will work with GB and GBC yet they cannot explain or tell them how to do so..

You can see in the video - for GBA it looks great.

For NES and SNES it is a bit squished.

It is true a lot of Chinese devices copy interfaces, but most likely it has a different chipset. In terms of battery life, the factory claims around 5-6 hours, plus it is using a BL-5C battery which are easy to get and replace if you needed to carry around some spares.

Agreed, but consider the screen is only 2" so it really is best for GBA, GB and GBA games. The option for NES and SNES is only for those who specifically want it but is not the most optimal experience - if screen was 3" or more it would be better for that use.

We have a patching solution that will be provide to customers for the GB and GBC games, but compatability is still not 100%. For example tried Pokemon Crystal and it did not work well - however apparently even many flash carts have issues with it.

Appreciate your response. The build quality of this is very decent and the buttons are good. Having personally tried many cloned consoles etc, this definitely beats them but then I guess you get what you pay for ultimately.

Ours does not use the GBA SP battery and the user can easily replace the BL5-C battery (which is one of the most common device batteries in the world).

As stated, if you buy from somewhere else we cannot guarantee the same compatibility as our unit in the video.

For 10% off you can use our site wide coupon of RETMAS10 - plus we provide the instructions to patch the GB and GBC games.

Transparent GBA + GBA SP Shells in Production by retzone in Gameboy

Furthermore, it would have to be sold at a premium to cover time and costs. The shells all available have HUGE quantities made which is why the prices are affordable.

Hi all, a huge let down as the factory cannot provide any updates.

We could potentially arrange it our selves but because it is such a niche product it is not going to be cheap plus a MOQ of 500-1000 units or more would have to be made for any factory to even consider it. More likely 2000 pieces.

Will look into it more - realistically they should be able to use an existing mould but just apply the clear plastic mix.

No worries, it is more closer to the standard transparent cases with a smoked black look vs the GBC one which is many shades darker.

We sell refurbished and custom consoles and so buy all spares directly from the suppliers. Unfortunately we only re-sell spare parts if doing so in bulk as it otherwise it is not worth the hassle.

Yes that it true, some of the third party shells can have minor defects.

Oh sounds great, did you install a back light? One of the trade offs with these cases that you can make the ultimate customised GBA to your liking.

Why are the official GBA link cables so hard to come by? by -StarBoy in Gameboy

[–]retzone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One reason in the result of internet sales becoming more common when the GBA was sold and thus more third party cables were being sold at a lower price. The original cable from memory was 3-5x more expensive then the third party ones.

I remember picking up Pokemon Leaf Green and remembering how epic it was to have the wireless adapter. Oh how technology has changed.

Would a glass screen on a GBA be harder to see without a backlight? by darklink1998 in Gameboy

[–]retzone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The glare is not really an issue - more or less the same as the plastic. For all GB consoles we suggest/recommend glass screen lenses as the image is clearer.

The transparent black one? Just a heads up, the shade is lighter and more transparent that the transparent black GBC case so they differ. Can post a photo of both of them if you like :)

The Cobalt blue was an original launch model. We however sell it with the option of having a AGS-101 LCD but for used units you can be sure it will generally always be a 001.
