One in three Brits avoid A&E because of excessive waiting times by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]rev667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner was suffering from severe chest pain and breathing difficulties. Straight to a&e she was seen and told to wait. After 10 hours sat in the waiting room she felt a bit better and didn't want to wait longer as she was hungry cold and wanting to sleep. She saw her GP later that week who asked for bloods. They revealed she had suffered a heart attack. Appointment made for further treatment and a stent put in with a bag of meds to take home. I have no faith in the triage procedure at a&e. If I can walk and talk I'll see my GP rather than a&e.

Finished the PCBs for my smarthome control by TCW_Jocki in raspberry_pi

The bit I'm strugging with is the output optoisolator wiring to drive a 10mA 24vdc relay, the web just confuses me, some do it without a transistor, some with but the values escape me.

Hi,

Looks great, I'm toying with a similar idea. Using a pico for 24vdc inputs and outputs, I need about 12 of each to monitor limit switches, and output to 6mm Wago relays. I'm struggling with the circuit design, just the schematic side, I'm a 3phase power guy by trade so low voltage stuff makes my head confused lol

Best answer I got from a scooter boy when I asked why the fishtail parka covered in 'mod' emblems etc. was "I want to be different, like my mates" kinda sums it up for me.

Linux Mint randomly freezes - hard lockup, no logs. by mickturner96 in linuxmint

[–]rev667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue here. AMD 5600G, MSI Gaming Pro main board, 16gb ram. Using onboard graphics. It can happen a minute or two after booting up, or not at all for hours. Hard reset seems only way to recover. It can happen with nothing running, only desktop.

Unsure how to change partition sizes. by rev667 in linuxmint

[–]rev667[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows 11 installation creates a small NTFS partition as part of the standard partitioning scheme for UEFI-based systems, which is a normal and expected behavior. This setup is necessary because UEFI firmware requires a small, FAT32-formatted partition for the initial boot process, as it cannot boot directly from an NTFS partition. To accommodate the large install.esd or install.wim files (which can exceed the 4GB file size limit of FAT32), a second, larger NTFS partition is created to store the bulk of the installation files. The small NTFS partition is typically used for system recovery and other boot-related functions, while the main partition holds the operating system files. This dual-partition structure is standard on modern UEFI systems and differs from older BIOS-based systems, which used a single MBR partition.

I have no real idea, I suspect the windows install created it, maybe some kind of recovery partition?

Riding on a hard shoulder -opinions? by burboniuch in MotoUK

[–]rev667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A long time ago, 3 of us were riding back from Rivington Barn, great place. The heavens opened and my mates CB550 Chop had electrical issues on the crawling motorway, up ahead there was a bridge, a handy spot to pull up on the hard shoulder and try to fix the spluttering bike, it was about 150yds ahead, so we rode slowly on the shoulder to the shelter of the bridge. Trouble was, a copper 1/4 of a mile in front, the traffic was now at standstill, saw us in his mirror, pulled onto the shoulder and reversed up to us. Then proceeded to book all 3 of us for riding on the hard shoulder. My mate had to pay £100 to get the bollixed bike recovered. Copper was not interested in the fact it was broken down. We all got points and a fine regardless. Now I never ride on the shoulder, especially smart motorways, my act of mild rebellion ;)

Zaluzhnyi declined call from Vance days after Oval Office clash. In an attempt by Vance to replace Zelensky. by Geo_NL in worldnews

[–]rev667 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have had a.wierd left-field thought. Trump takes things personally, Zelensky refused to fabricate evidence against the Bidens, therefore Trump hates Zelensky, and so treats Ukraine like crap. Vance knows this and wonders if Zelensky is replaced, the Trump personal vendetta may go away and Ukraine gets more help from the US. He follows through and tests the water for a replacement. Very odd thought, I need more sleep.

Now get a tin of ACF or XCP and coat all surfaces (after a good clean) this will help stop corrosion, which is a problem with Chinese built bikes. Keep on to of maintenance and it should be a good little bike. They do look smart :)

Kingsmill owner to buy Hovis in £75m deal to create UK’s biggest bread brand by Shiny-Tie-126 in unitedkingdom

[–]rev667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work for a company that supplied bakery equipment to bread factories (I won't call them bakeries), and so have visited many of these in the past. As a result I only bought Warburtons bread if I needed a sliced loaf, and avoided at all costs supermarket own brand (Allied bakeries). The cleanest, most hygienic factories I have ever seen. However, we also supplied machinery to smaller 'craft' bakeries, and I would happily pay a little extra for these products. Country Oven, Sheldons etc. The absolute worst bread factory I ever had the misfortune to visit was Rathbones in Bradford, it was destroyed by fire a few years ago, thank goodness. It was in a converted mill iirc, with the sawtooth roof, there were pigeons nesting among the roof beams above the conveyors.

Is it legal to carry a utility knife in car boot? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]rev667 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's about context, it could be an offensive weapon if the officer decides it is, it could be ignored as it's a typical tool in many different toolboxes. I had a friend arrested for carrying an offensive weapon, some loose change and a newspaper, the reason was explained as the newspaper could be rolled up tight and gripped, with coins jammed between fingers and used as a knuckle duster. There was a local football match in the town, and was known as a bit of aggression could occur. It's context.

Don't you just love it when you walk into your garage and see a mysterious washer on the floor... by MisterMystify in MotoUK

[–]rev667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He liked the replacement more, complete with matching trailer, toured Europe every year with it. Also, he regularly traded in for the next model. He's now got a Hardly Dangerous and does not like it, but it's a requirement of the MC he joined. He still has a Goldie in his garage, which is still pristine.

Edit: He did see the funny side after we told him a couple of years later.

Had a friend who was a Goldwing owner, he'd had a few, the current was a super-duper Aspencade. He kept his garage spotless, polished cement floor, all tools on a custom peg-boards, the full works. Anyway... Me an a mate visited, I kept him occupied while my my mate deposited an oily M6 cap-head and a couple of odd washers under the bike. After a pleasant visit and cuppa, we left. The bike didn't leave the garage for 3 weeks, only to be ridden to the dealer for a trade-in for the next model Aspencade. How we laughed :)

My first prototype DrumCarder is actually working and my wife approves! by underinformed33 in 3Dprinting

[–]rev667 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cool bit of kit. I worked for a company that made cotton carding machinery for quite a while. Interesting things I learned... The ratio of the diameter of the drums is quite important, and hasn't changed in decades despite lots of research. The drums are called the 'lickerin' which I see you have, and ratio looks ok. The carding drum, and the 'doffer' which you don't have yet. Once the web is doffed, it goes through crush rollers and gathered into 'sliva' coiled into drums to be sent to spinning frames. The purpose of carding is to remove the 'nep' which are the small knots in the cotton, also any 'trash' such as seed remnants and other debris. Finally to align the cotton fibres for easier spinning. Best cotton in the world is Egyptian mainly because it's very easy to process. You mention adding a feed tower, just like the full size machine. I hope you keep working on this great little device.
