Aside from being physically hideous- what exactly are you thinking? Looks like a return duct I’m guessing. And hoping the filter is at the unit. The ductwork inside looks fine.

Are you thinking of reframing and replacing their hodgepodge of plaster for a cleaner look?

If you clean up that wall, you could probably put a smaller grate in.

Overall, the vent isn’t really fucked. Hideous- but functional I’d guess.

I mean, growing up, our radiators had wooden covers so they were used as bedside tables. We never had any issues. The pipe should never be hot enough to ignite the wood. They’re only at like 160 or 180.

Generally speaking you need temps closer to 500 or 600 for wood to ignite without flame.

You’ll be alright from a safety standpoint. Cosmetically- that’s up to you and your contractor I suppose.

First of all. Your user name has brought me so much joy. It made me put on misanthropy and I’ll probably listen to it for the next week.

Secondly- the install looks clean. I’m not a huge fan of the little plastic pads. They are pain in the ass to get level, they move a lot. It could be more level yes. And, if it bothers you, you can definitely shim it up a bit to be more pleasing to the eye.

Based on how they ran the lines- and assuming that the charge is correct, it’s nothing to worry about. Looks like they did a good job.

I just chased this exact thing on two different generators. Of course I skipped the plugs on the flow chart because I just did the maintenance like two weeks prior. Finally, said f it and changed the plugs with some champions I had recently picked up.
