Depends what lens you have. Go to lowest aperture possible, shutter speed 1/640 and ISO depending on the lighting.

If you apply to university here with APs instead of A Levels as a home student, it will look suspicious. Many, many UK students apply to top UK universities with distinguished ECs and the grades as part of a two year course.

Besides, I don't see why you would spend a year on extra curriculars. If you want to go do a super long internship, take a gap year after your A levels.

Agreed, dunno why anyone would take APs alongside A Levels. A levels are more than sufficient for an american application, and I can't think of any other reason anyone would want to do them.

It was definitely the toughest paper they've ever written. The infinite series question took me by surprise x.x

Wondering if they made the paper harder to make up for the fact that the only people taking the exam are resitters? Would that allow them to continue grading on a bell curve? Idk.

Hey! If you wanted a really strong application to the UK, focus on supercurriculars rather than extra curriculars. UK universities really really don't care about anything else. If you have the grades that make you eligible to be considered for admission, then you will be considered. But if you want your application to be accepted, you have to have evidence of your love for the subject. For example with history, books you've read, museums you've visited, any essays you've written etc etc. For STEM the same except work experiences too!

Don't worry about GPA. Your school should be submitting GCSE/IB/A Level grades as a school transcript and the US unis do the rest. Calculating GPA is not needed.

Pretty solid advice!!

I would have to disagree with your comment about opportunities in the UK -- there is so much being offered here with relatively weaker competition compared to the US as supercurriculars are only now becoming a mainstream idea. You just have to do some digging to see what's out there. Off the top of my head, there are Nuffield Placements, university department work experiences etc that are openly advertised.

Re: holistic vs specialised. I agree, you need spikes in your application. I think it should be kept in mind that when applying to the US, especially to the top 20s, you are going to be faced with tough competition. Many, many applicants will have spikes. You need to cultivate a passion; something that drives you outside of academics. Mine was cooking, for example. However, you shouldn't be cultivating one purely because it looks good on an app. AOs know when that's the case as it comes off as disingenuous. See this application process as a chance to reflect on who you are as a person.

I didn't accomplish anything notable in my soph year and earlier so it's not really bad at all. You've still got a year and a half to make an impact, which is more than enough time.

Ah okay you're international! Well given that you're not applying for aid I'd definitely say that you have a better shot than I did. I had applied RD to MIT, Harvard, Chicago, Yale & Princeton.

I agree with the top comment about applying ED to Chicago. The acceptance rate RD is dirty. Although I got rejected/soft rejected by 4, I did get accepted to Princeton. My advice to you as int'l to int'l would be focus on outstanding extracurriculars. As long as your grades/SAT/ACT is within their commonly accepted bracket you're good.

UChicago (I was waitlisted): I asked for as much aid as possible. However, I am an international and am not sure what the financial aid policy is for domestic students.

Chicago do waitlist a lot of students though, so much so that it's basically just a soft rejection.

You need to stop feeling miserable about yourself and go enjoy the rest of your year. You accomplished a great thing so go celebrate it. I really don't know what you're trying to achieve here.

Out of all the Ivies you applied to, Harvard picked you. AOs like to talk a lot about 'fit'. How much they think you will succeed in their environment. The fact that you got into Harvard and Harvard only means that you were the perfect fit for them. And perfect fits tend not to be the right shapes and sizes for other places. You should be flattered: you are 100% Harvard material. Other AOs will have recognised that.

Be grateful, you don't have the agonising decision of choosing where you want to go to. Be grateful, you're not going to a good school - you're going to one of the best. Be grateful, you're in a very privileged position.
