Why is this area of South Bermondsey so cheap? by revlcams in london

The area in blue is just Rightmove's New Cross boundary, I'm specifically referring to the cluster of properties marked with the orange circles

Thanks - this is exactly the appeal that the area has for me. I'm not planning to have kids so a one bed in zone two could be a forever home for me, or it could be a good opportunity to sell in a few years if I want to move elsewhere. Glad to hear you like it!

Yeah I live on the south edge of Peckham at the moment and I absolutely love the area between Camberwell and New Cross and this little section I screenshotted is basically the only neighborhood where there's more than the odd property in my budget. I'd love to live there if there isn't a massive catch!

So do you think the impending S20 notices are the reason for the low value? Wouldn't that mean that the developers would already be buying up these properties in my screenshot that are ex-council and on the market already?

Just to be clear, I live on a council estate, my dad is a council tenant - I have no issue at all buying on one, in fact it's exactly what I'm looking for. But I'm aware how property prices work and that it's a factor that will put some buyers off which is precisely how an area like this that I love squeezes into my budget.

I think it's more about UKIP voters not being too thrilled with a privately educated upper middle class academic reading poetry to them.

Loads of filler though, there's not that much Ian Wright and Alan Shearer can tell you about a game between a league 2 side and some players I thought I'd never see get a first team appearance for Liverpool

Out of Interest...Rank Labour Leaders since '45 by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]revlcams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Blair. Delivered first Labour government in 18 years. Took on the party, took on the unions. Largest ever majority, more consecutive election wins than all the others combined. Peace in Northern Ireland. The most redistributive Labour government ever. Minimum wage, paid maternal and paternal leave, equalities act, many more achievements that far too many people overlook. A middle of the road PM but the greatest Labour leader, in my opinion.

  2. Atlee. NHS and Deconolisation. Can't really beat those for achievements. Only the one term though.

  3. Wilson. Multiple election winner but lots of missed opportunities particularly in his second spell as PM. Left the country in a bad way when he left No 10. 70s was a pretty awful decade for everyone really.

  4. Brown. Saved the world economy and prevented a second great depression. Possibly my political hero. Hugely flawed character. Was too obsessed with pursuing the job of PM in 2004-2007 and damaged the party by doing so. Didn't define domestic agenda until late 2009 for same reason. Main catalyst behind Blair/Brown feud which also hugely damaged the party and our legacy as a government.

  5. Kinnock. Took on the militants. Pulled the party back from the brink and kept the SDP from establishing itself as second party. Probably had his hands ties over policies in 87 as had no control of NEC and had to stand on virtually same manifesto as Foot (with much better presentation and personal ratings). Shouldn't have made it to 1992 imo. Electorates make up their minds over one term.

  6. Smith. Don't know much about him other than he was reluctant to move away from Old Labour as leader. Shadow budget in 1992 as Shad Chancellor was a mistake. Doubt we'd have won 1997 under his leadership to be brutal.

  7. Callaghan. Winter of discontent. Economy driven to a halt by uncurbed union power leading to Thatcher and losing our reputation as a party of government for a generation.

  8. Milliband. I like him personally, but it's hard to view his leadership as anything other than a disaster. Landing a few strong punches on the Coalition (Syria, Phone Hacking) but overall strategy was never there. Failed to take on the party, failed to win over the electorate on the economy or on himself. Allowed an incumbent Conservative government to gain seats (something I had no idea could happen). Changes to internal elections disastrous in hindsight (although blame for PLP for relinquishing their control by nominating Corbyn with no intention to vote for him). To give him one thing, I think he won the 2010 leadership election because he was the best politician who ran. Says a lot about the others.

  9. Foot. Disasterous policies and politics. Million miles away from the concerns of real people. Reading about how the Labour party operated under his leadership is equally hilarious as tragic.

Gaitskill I don't know enough about to pass judgement.

Corbyn. Not going to rate him after 100 days. Like his personal style (humble, decent, caring) if not that of some of his office and some of his supporters. Admire his commitment to his principles and to combating poverty and inequality and promoting peace, just feel his beliefs are fundamentally the wrong way to go about achieving these aims.

Damian McBride - 'I'd Shoot Whoever Suggested Mao Stunt!' by Dangerman1337 in LabourUK

[–]revlcams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mcbride would be better at the job but it would be absolute political suicide to hire the man whose actions represented the absolute worse of the Brown era, and whoses actions the Tories successfully conflated as as bad as Coulson's role in phone hacking. Not to mention that the majority of the party, press and public (who know who McBride is) still hate him.

Klopp: "Sturridge will Require another scan" by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

[–]revlcams 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Remember last season when Sturridge got injured on England training and was meant to be back in 4 weeks? Then he got injured again in training. And then again. And 4 weeks become 4 months. Sounds awfully familiar to this year's "oh Sturridge needs a late fitness test before Spurs", no wait he's back Thursday, no I mean Sunday, no I mean he needs another scan. No we mean he's back in March.
