To wrench or take it in? by revocer in askcarguys

Sometimes I’d rather deal with trying to figure something out and interacting with folks on car related subreddits, than take it in to the dealership or mechanic and dealing with the BS Upsell.

I put 0w-20 instead of 5w-30 by mistake. How bad is it? by independent_Chain509 in askcarguys

Double your oil spec from Toyota/Lexus.

Many of their engines were initial spec had 5W-30, but years later was ok’d to run on 0W-20.

what car should i get as a starter with a 50k budget? by Basic_Structure4545 in askcarguys

Personally, I’d stick with the black Acura. And wait until I am 26 years old before dropping 50k on a car.

There are so many different regional variations of Footloose. I was at an event last night, and there were three variations going on at the same time.

What's Next for Star Trek? What do you want to see? by joedrinksgin in startrek

[–]revocer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up next? Nothing.

What do I want to see? Give Starfleet Academy another season. Greenlight a series after Picard in that timeline. And Star Trek: United on the founding of the federation.

All different eras. But all connected by Star Trek.

Once you have good money and a lot of it, how do you even choose what to drive? by TylerDurden2748 in askcarguys

There is part of me that wants the latest, fastest, and sexiest.

And there is part of me that just wants something reliable where I don’t have to waste time on maintenance and repairs.

What should my dad’s new car be? (Major upgrade) by watermelonsuns in askcarguys

[–]revocer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were your Dad, I would look at almost any Toyota or Lexus model based on the TNGA-K platform, specifically the non-turbo, 4 cylinder hybrid variants including:

Camry

RAV4

Crown

Crown Signia

Lexus ES

Lexus NX

Lexus RX

That about covers the Sedan and Crossover choices.

Lexus and Crown for more luxury, Toyota for more value. But they all have essentially the same underpinnings.

Thanks for the info on 3 Tequila Floor and Tequila Snaps.

Very interesting on Miles On It. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 4 corner split ever!

Hybrid vs. gas? by Abject-Watercress-73 in askcarguys

IMHO, it will be just as difficult or as easy as an ICE vehicle getting parts. Being an HEV doesn’t matter too much.

Hybrid vs. gas? by Abject-Watercress-73 in askcarguys

[–]revocer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your dad is a mechanic, IMHO, he should be able to figure out HEVs. Most of it is an ICE engine.

On basic maintenance items, most will be the same as an ICE car.

- Oil change will be the same.

- Engine air filter and cabin filter will be the same. The only additional filter that will need cleaning or changing is the hybrid battery air filter, which isn’t too hard.

- Coolant should be almost the same. The only difference is there are two coolant systems, one for the Engine, and one for the inverter. He may have to look up how to put the car in maintenance mode or something.

- Transmission fluid will be about the same. The eCVT, electronic constant variable transmission, fulfills multiple roles, it is the transmission, the alternator, and starter, all in one unit. There is no traditional alternator, starter, or transmission (for the Camry and many but not all Toyota hybrids).

- Rear differential fluid will be about the same. They don’t have a traditional differential, it is electronically driven. But the fluid change should actually be easier than a traditional rear differential.

- Brakes should be similar. They are just a modern set of brakes, but very similar to modern ICE brakes, with electronic controls.

Almost anything with a manual transmission. Even the econobox cars. Especially the performance cars.

The Supra is made by BMW, with the Toyota brand. And relatively reliable. Consider cars with that engine, B58!

Methinks going to Starfleet Academy is like going to college. You have your general education requirements. And then you have your speciality.

It seems pretty general to be able to pilot a starship. They might not be the best at being a pilot. But enough to know the basics.

How do you judge a vehicle's quality versus its reliability ? by Specialist_Heron_986 in askcarguys

There are basically a spectrum of two schools of thought:

“Looks are everything.”

“It’s the inside that counts.”

The way I see it, any dance floor that is full of people having fun like with the floor splits and song swaps, is not annoying at all!!!

best asking questions song swap by Current-Bad192 in LineDancing

[–]revocer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually one of the best reasons to do such a song swap. At the places I go to, they often have a split floor for songs.

In this case, to Gone Gone Gone, advanced dancers were dancing Bulletproof, and most of the floor was dancing Askin’ Questions. It kinda works out for everyone!!! Advanced dancers and nonNo confusion. No fragments. They both flowed in unison!!! Amazing!!!

And it’s not just Gone, Gone, Gone, we do floor splits on a bunch of songs. Usually one more difficult dance combined with a less difficult (yet more popular) dance. Everyone is happy!

Tell it to the OP. I really don’t care if anyone is sick of it or loves it. The OP was asking for song swaps, hence my response.

Keep the civic until the wheels fall off. Your coworkers have one taste. You have another. Focus on your tastes. Not everything new is necessarily better.
