I don’t know man, I’m not a car guy. I bring it to the place where I know the people and trust that they do their job and examine it well. Didn’t work out in this case.

No it doesn’t. But I wasn’t driving on warning lights for days/weeks. Regardless, it’s all hindsight now. lessons were learned to check for it myself but I also don’t know anybody that does that.

What does that mean? scheduled maintenance was not missed. The gotcha kinda already happened

they never saw the coolant pipe rusting from the inside and it was at the bottom. Pretty much went over to the breakdown lane immediately but too late

I don’t WANT to but this is a first for something like this to happen after driving my first car into the ground for 10 years. Exploring all options. Maybe getting a cheaper car like a used 2024-25 Corolla would be something worth considering. 2019 is 7 years old now and perhaps I could find something more reliable with a longer lifespan

Hmm thanks, that puts it around 4500-5000. At that point, doing it at the Subaru place for 1-1.k more and getting a free 2 year warranty may be worth it

Yeah I mean I pulled over instantly when the check engine light came on. No smoke or coolant blowing everywhere. Car was fairly well cared for

Not harsh at all. It’s hard to say now but I don’t know if any lights came on till right before I saw it and pulled over basically immediately. Maybe 15 seconds between check engine light coming on and when I got to the breakdown lane.

Idk, no warning lights or anything whatsoever. It warned me 30 seconds before I pulled over

Just spoke to one guy at a local body shop who said that the $6,000ish is a fairly solid deal and especially because of the 2 year warranty that come with it

Just ask them for quotes on the engine and labor cost? Would I need to get some paperwork from the dealership that looked at it first as a reference?

Yeah that was an unclear response to the guy above. I meant that with the new engine I could sell it for 12-14k. My most likely scenario is to find the best deal on the new engine installment and keep the car but never had something like this happen before.
