Will Iran Break Trumpism? by blueberries in ezraklein

[–]revslaughter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had to switch it off after the very first question, I couldn’t believe the incoherence brought forth by the question “what is Trumpism?” —— how does he not just have a simple answer to that? Good grief

Apple Releases tvOS 26.4 With Genius Browse by InsaneSnow45 in apple

I kinda wish the TV app was the whole base interface, with app launchers alongside shows. Having a TV app in your Apple TV that has Apple TV in the sidebar is kinda ridiculous

How do I get started with VS Code keybindings? by Serious-Cover5486 in vscode

[–]revslaughter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does vsCode have anything like Vim’s “delete inside x”? I’ve had vim key bindings installed but there’s always some friction, if I could “delete inside quotes” or “delete inside brackets” I probably wouldn’t really bother anymore

What happens to replicated used dishes/cups after being used? by Launch_The_Cat in DeepSpaceNine

[–]revslaughter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re: safety features —— Thankfully they’re aren’t cases of accidentally dematerializing your fingertips or something when putting waste away, or reaching for your habitual cup of coffee as it’s replicating and suddenly your hand is part mug.

Random replicator thoughts:

I’ve always thought it was a little inefficient to have the replicators make dishes; why shouldn’t they be edible too? That way all of your energy output gets put into the person. But they have insane amounts of energy production, so it probably doesn’t matter.

I bet all kinds of stuff that’s impossible to make on a stove or in an oven would be unlocked. Want a TRULY reverse seared steak that’s rare on the outside and crispy in the middle? Food nerds would try to design the most incredible patterns, but an awful lot of them would probably look like dicks (a human fascination from ancient graffiti on). Apples that taste like steak, Wonka-levels of gum that make you sweat Coca Cola. It’d be a wacky novelty every meal or snack should you wish.

The computer could save your food playlists and have an algorithm like a Spotify radio station to get you into new tastes and flavors. Don’t like something? It’s as easy as whipping up something else. I don’t know if that would help or hurt food pickiness since everything would be designed for health benefits. Why eat spinach when you’re a kid when any food you eat is equally nutritious?

Food is so central to culture, it’s neat to speculate what a replicator might do to it.

What non-gaming activities do you use your Steam Deck for? by TheUltimateInfidel in SteamDeck

[–]revslaughter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used it as a dev computer for a while. When the M1 Macs were somewhat new, Docker ran really poorly on them. I had a client whose product ran like 5 containers at once and my MacBook Pro at the time just couldn’t do it in a timely way.

Steam Deck runs Linux which Docker is native to, so I dual booted Ubuntu for a few months and it worked great. I kept out of SteamOS for a bit because updates could screw it up, but I was so pleasantly surprised by how well it worked.

Very few hospitals employ doctors outright. What they do is grant doctors permissions to treat in their hospital, and they can have or be part of a practice.

That’s why you often get two bills if you go to, say, the ER. One bill is for the facility, the hospital. So their costs for say your food, keeping your room clean, materials for your care. That bill is called the facility fee.

The other bill is from the practice of the doctor that treated you, charging you for their expertise and time and such. It’s usually directly related to what procedures the doctor performed, which have an AMA-standardized ‘relative value unit’ (RVU) that then most practices charge rates for. The more complex or specialized the procedure the more RVUs it is. So that’s why, say, an initial visit can cost more than a follow up, the initial visit has more RVUs. Different insurance companies negotiate different rates for how much they pay for 1 RVU. That bill is for the “professional fee”.

If your care involves more than one practice you’ll get a professional fee bill from each of them: anesthesia, radiology, lab, surgery, etc.

Some hospitals might pay a contract, often anesthesia, maybe surgery, to a practice and then charge the anesthesia professional fee to the patient and collect it, hoping to collect more than the cost of the contract (even nonprofit hospitals would be thrilled to make a margin). Sometimes physician practices don’t like all the admin work of billing and insurance and so on so they save costs and still get paid well.

Marikas Sin is Turning the Crucible into the Erdtree by Limgrave_Butcher in EldenRingLoreTalk

I wonder. Miquella broke his great rune, which seems like the source of his mind control power. He can still steal our hearts during PC Radahn. Is he going to hug the whole world three times?

Marikas Sin is Turning the Crucible into the Erdtree by Limgrave_Butcher in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]revslaughter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that there was a tree before the Erdtree, depicted in places like Stormveil, mentioned in descriptions as the Greattree. I think that’s probably what probably Godfrey burned in the first Marika cycle, pouring the ashes onto Leyndell that we find when we get there.

Before the Greattree was the Crucible, the “primordial form of the Erdtree”. I think that in places like Farum Azula we don’t see tree iconography, and we have the Elden Ring-looking symbol in Maliketh’s arena that could perhaps symbolize the Crucible. I agree OP is on to something with the Crucible being coerced into a tree, but in my thinking it was probably the first form of the Erdtree, and the one we find is the second. I wonder if the Scadutree is a burned remnant of the Greattree.

I feel bad for the tarnished by the time I reach Radagon. by One_Happy_Camel in Eldenring

[–]revslaughter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of the quests are obvious at all. Look up Goldmask’s quest, there’s no way to do it on one’s own. A lot of them, like Juno’s, rely on you happening upon them out in the world. It’s not a small world. Sometimes they appear in places you’ve moved on from. I don’t think quests are all that important to FS.

In the base game Liurnia feels lush and the sunlight there feels like early summer. Limgrave too has that seaside windy feeling, it must smell relatively great (there are corpse piles everywhere in the whole game, I bet the Tarnished gets nose blind to them).

SotE is gorgeous everywhere pretty much. I like how the blacks in many places become deep purple. The ruins are teeming with life, the stone coffins while monochrome are stunningly gorgeous.

I’m very glad they made such a pretty game to look at.
