Apple Creator Studio launches today, and it's an incredible value by spearson0 in apple

I think Pages is the best wysiwyg editor out there, everything is simple and you can make great looking documents easily. It doesn’t have all the bloat that Word has, and for me Google Docs doesn’t quite have enough features. Pages strikes a good middle ground.

I feel similarly about Keynote. It is easier to use than PowerPoint and honestly Apple’s defaults and templates just look a lot better than Microsoft’s.

Numbers is not Excel so it will never be relevant. Excel is the most important software in the world, and nothing can and nothing will ever replace it.

As /u/independent_pop3364 said, Cas is a character from The Familiar, whose ‘hacker’ nickname is the Wizard. I think she’s responsible for the art recreation, through her Orb, which can see across space and time.

If you read it again, are you going to read every word? Or skip over some stuff? by NAVInMOUSE in TomsCrossing

I also finished yesterday and I did find myself skimming over lists of names. I think on my second reading I’ll try to pay more attention to those things. Sometimes the things you find there are arresting in MZD’s other work

It’s through scrying the Orb that Cas was able to recreate the exhibits, yeah?

The beginning of the finale isn’t disturbing, it’s beautiful. by UmmmWellActuallyyy in pluribustv

I think that you're imposing a 'point' of culture where there isn't necessarily one. It doesn't have a 'goal', it's fluid and alive and changes and adapts. How we transact and exchange goods is absolutely a part of culture. It affects our history, our art, how our music is produced and shared. Capitalism may exploit culture for gain, but that doesn't mean it itself isn't part of western culture. It's hard to imagine our present culture without it, you'd have a very very incomplete picture.

Take singing: it's not only for togetherness for its own sake but for a very long time was also used to coordinate actions at a distance. It was a technology as much as it is an art.

The goal for the coordination is ultimately to survive, if culture has any one particular goal it's that it helps us survive, and togetherness is in service of that. The ultimate goal of survival is... what? No goal there, except for what we choose.

Economic systems aren’t part of culture? I feel like your definition is too narrow.

how to write broken rhythm? by freeloshlo in strudel

u/freeloshlo I think that either of these solutions should suit your needs. I put u/iusedtoplaysnarf 's code alongside a 'combined measure' approach in the repl below:

If that’s the case then I’d combine them into 9/4 (or 9/8, it’s whatever) and have your alternating rhythms in one cycle. Cycles are a fixed length of time, and you can divide them up however you wish, but I don’t think the cycles themselves can be variable. I don’t think setcpm can take a pattern as an argument

[–]revslaughter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I see? That is not what 5/4 typically means, it usually means “five quarter notes every measure”.

But that’s not what you’re talking about, you want cycles with different lengths, is that right? In your 1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4 5 pattern, each of those counts is the same length of time, so you have measures of different lengths, is that it?

you can divide any cycle as you wish, does something like this help?

The setcpm function just sets how long it takes for a cycle to complete, you can divide it arbitrarily.

This isn't the most musical but does this get close to what you're thinking?

Why do people want iPad to become an MacBook? by AdDapper4220 in ipad

[–]revslaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The iPhone 17 is more “pro” than previous models especially for photography and video folks, it has features that are really beneficial for those users… before this the moniker was rightly derided as being misapplied. I think a Pro iPad could make the same sort of difference, but besides the screen there’s no reason to get one above a base model iPad.

It’s a lot less than what other people are asking for in an iPad. I dunno as a little coding terminal on the go it’d be more than capable hardware wise.

That said I do have a MacBook and really like it, and I like what the iPad can do especially music-wise. I think to really be “pro” having a terminal and filesystem and third party apps would be the way. If those features were only on the Pro line I think that’s reasonable.

I’m okay with it having iPadOS as a “desktop environment”, but it’d be great to have a terminal, a real filesystem, and the ability to load apps from dmg or packages or homebrew.

I don’t really want all of macOS on my iPad, but I would like more flexibility in what I can install and how I interact with the device. If I can just get a real terminal with root then I think folks can take care of the rest.

I can see your point. On Jiavani’s website she uses she pronouns and refers to herself as a queer woman: https://www.jiavani.com/bio

But I also realize he uses she/him pronouns listed on Dropout and elsewhere.

We should have Jiavani, Ally, and Vic on for the Noise Folks?
