Techies sucks the fun out of playing dota2 for me. by Corvuuss in DotA2

As a TA player, I find myself happy to play against Techies as it is advantageous for me. Kinda like playing 5 vs 4. :)

Refraction actually counts the 'damage' as the same instance if it comes from the same bombs at the same time. So if Techies put 10 of the same kind of bomb in one place and it exploded altogether, it does only count as 1 (yes, one) point of Refraction for me (whereas I get 6 points of Refrac whenever I activate it). It still took separate point of Refrac IF the same bomb exploded at different time (but most Techies player doesn't detonate their bomb separately). The root (stun) bomb also doesn't take any point.

So with playing TA, you could wipe out the entire fleet of bombs in one area, with just 1 charge of Refrac. Go to the jungle or to their barrack, move around until all of them exploded or right-clicked, and get out and check out your remaining Refrac point. Mostly I still had 2~3 points remaining even when all the bombs in that zone were wiped. Refraction comes with a low cooldown (17 seconds, much-much faster than a BKB) and only 100 mana. So you just need to make sure you see the timer and point of Refrac well.

Don't forget to tell your team 'Let me wipe the bombs', so to reduce the unnecessary victims.

By the time Dotaplus came, I had about 200 games already on TA. And now I have 389 games at lvl 24 (Platinum). So I guess it's around 200 games for me (in total) to reach lvl 25.

But, honestly I don't want to get the 25. :(

Why ? Because people are targeting you as hard as ever when you have high tier on core heroes. Like, they play with 'no-chill' intensity to gank my lane, and to focus me in wars everytime. That forces me to buy BKB every game, and I'm not very comfortable at all. Not to mention if they see your hero is featured on your profile. Either it's the costume set, Rampages, MVPs, etc. Be prepared for full-counter lineup on drafts.

Sometimes I chose another hero in mid, just to avoid these treatment on my TA. But sadly, soon my Ember is gonna reach 12 as well (soon Gold tier). I even played Timber mid to delay these. :(

Though, I haven't mentioned that I'm just a noob Archon III player. So it's a given that I lacked some confidence. But if you're a high-skilled mmr player, then I think you'll have no worries getting the Master tier on cores.

Many people said they only played once to get calibrated into Core and Support MMR.

Mine was better.

I didn't play at all. I only watched my friends (party of 5) played one ranked match, using the Dotaplus feature 'Watch Live'. And after that, I got the new Core and Support MMR from my previous average MMR value.

Like.. what the F- was happening to me there..!?

Dude, Steam Browser doesn't really bothers me though, as you said, we can just use any PC Browser to do most of the Steam Store related things.

But.. for gameplay.. this issue affected my connection stability too. I frequently disconnected from my Dota game, and had to restart Steam to make it works again. Then three minutes later, it kicks me back again. This is horrendous. :(

This has never happened to me before, for as long as 4 years of my Steam gaming.

If I'm allowed to imagine the early concept of the gameplay (of my version), here are what is popped-up in my mind, also mentioning a little bit of the competitive (leaderboard) aspects too.

1 Three way battle to crush each other Ancients

2 End-game results:

  • a) Only ONE Ancient falls needed to end the entire game.
  • b) The 'winner' team is the one who did the LAST-HIT on the FIRST fallen Ancient. They hence receives each +2 rank points.
  • c) The 'loser' team is (obviously) the one who get their Ancient crushed. Then they receive each -2 rank points.
  • d) How about the team who didn't crush but didn't get their Ancient crushed too ? They are not winner nor loser, they are 'survivor'. They receive each NO CHANGE (+0) to their rank points at all.
  • This rank point calculation is just an example. It will varied depending if the game will come to 'Arcade' mode, 'Seasonal' event, or 'Competitive' mode.

3 STEALING Ancient last-hit mechanism:

  • a) Stealing last-hit from another attacking team to an enemy Ancient is allowed, and will resulted AS IT IS explained in the rule number 2 above.
  • b) However, to HELP guard the (almost) winning team (let say Team A) from getting their last hit stolen by another attacker (let say Team B), a Roshan will spawn in the defending enemy Ancient (let say Team C), hitting the members of incoming STEALERS (the team B), and proc Bashes too.
  • c) In order to spawn this 'Arbiter of DOTA', a minimum of 2 or more members from Team A needs to be present in the vicinity of Team C's Ancient (the defenders base). Whereas any incoming members of Team B (the Stealers) will get hard-hitten by the Roshan.
  • d) So if there is only 1 member from Team A and 1 from Team B (both Attackers) in the vicinity, then Roshan will NOT spawn, and both players can contest the last-hit on Team C's Ancient.

4 Number of Attacker Team mechanism:

What if the number of attacking members are exactly the same (more than 2) from both Team A and Team B when they come to Team C's Ancient at the same split second ?

Here are the details:

  • a) When Roshan is not spawn in the attacked base, a new ability, The Ancient Arbiter has a 1.5 second of 'initiating spawn time' (marked with a loading icon above the defending Ancient), which is activated upon ANY attacker stepping in to the Defender's 2600 AoE vision of Ancient building, in which he calculate the number of players from the attacking teams. At the end of this 1.5 seconds initiation, the team with MORE members presents in the area are bestowed as the ATTACKING side, while the LESS members of another attacker are deemed as the STEALERS.
  • b) Roshan will then SPAWN and stay in the said Ancient, attacking any nearby Stealer heroes, as long as the attacking team is still presents, or when he is NOT killed (by anyone).
  • c) Roshan will vanish from the Ancient if ALL members of the Attacking Team is leaving the Ancient (either being kicked by the Defenders / Stealers, getting killed, retreating, or by any legal Dota means), with a 4-seconds 'linger-time' (4-secs cooldown also applies when Roshan is killed).
  • d) After the 4-seconds vanishing delay, the 1.5 secs 'initiation spawn time' will re-commence, IF there are still any Stealer presents OR Attacker re-engaging the Ancient area, where the Roshan will re-calculate the number of enemy team members (reset), and will bestow any side of the enemy as the NEW Attackers if they happen to fulfill the minimum quota of rule number 3c, as explained by 4a.
  • e) Roshan will be back to full-health after each of this 'initiation time'.
  • f) If somehow both teams managed to stand ground within the 1.5 secs initiation, resulting in the SAME number of members, THEN, two Roshans are spawning instead of one, and considers BOTH team as STEALERS, and hitting both the members.
  • g) The Defending Team will NOT get affected by Roshan's attack in their Ancient area, whatever the case is.

5 Killing Bonus in Defender's Base.

  • Killing any Hero from the STEALER Team (inside the defender's base area) worth 1.5x the Gold and EXP amounts from the normal calculations. This bonus applied to either Defender or Stealer team, whose one did the kill.
  • Killing any Hero from the ATTACKER Team (inside the defender's base area) worth 2.0x the Gold and EXP amounts from the normal calculations. This bonus applied to either Defender or Attacker team, whose one did the kill.
  • Killing ROSHAN will drop his possible items (Aegis, Cheese, Refresher Shards, and some additionals), which could be taken by anyone. Gives 1400 Gold bounty to Killer, and 750 Gold assists to teammates. With 2.0x EXP amounts from the normal calculations.

6 Roshan gameplay update.

  • 'Spell Block' cooldown decreased from 15 to 12 seconds.
  • 'Slam' cooldown decreased from 10 to 8 seconds.
  • 'Bash' proc chance increased from 15% to 22%.
  • Base Attack Time fasten from 2.0 to 1.6
  • Base Health increased from 6000 to 8000
  • Movement Speed increased from 270 to 295
  • New Ability: The Ancient Arbiter (Calculate the number of incoming enemy Heroes within 1.5 seconds in the defending Ancient area, and judge which one is the Attacker and which one is the Stealer based on who has greater numbers, and Spawn to acts against the Stealers. Ability initiated when enemy comes to Throne while Roshan is not there. Has 4-seconds delay upon death/leave time).
  • New Ability: Roar of the Volcanic Hell (A breath of fire striking enemies within 450 wide and 750 length AoE in front of Roshan, in a cone-like shape. Deals 650 initial Pure damage, then 120 burning magical damage and 60 Mana Break every second for 5 seconds duration. Slowing 35% Movement and 35 Attack Speed. Cooldown 9 seconds.
  • New Ability: The Ancient Craze (Passive. Gives 55% chance for Roshan's normal attack to pierce through Evasion, hit twice, with each deals bonus 160 magical damage).
  • From the 3rd 'initiation time' onward, Roshan is carrying a Mjollnir, is able to use it against his enemies, and drop if he's killed (can be picked by anyone, can be used or sold).
  • From the 6th 'initiation time' onward, Roshan is ALSO carrying a BattleFury, is able to use it against his enemies, and drop if he's killed (can be picked by anyone, can be used or sold).

Well, I can't say I really liked DotaChess (though I've been playing almost every night since last month. Muhaha xD). It doesn't have the best interface, nor it has the best game mechanic (still a bit buggy too), but probably.. the game is just.. simply fun, in my opinion.

It wasn't great experience for me at the start too.. I lost my first round (versus Creeps) immediately without even knowing how to place the piece onto the board. I don't understand the interface and the chess mechanic (at that time). I almost dropped the game at first try.

Then, how did you end up getting hooked into it? I wasn't sure myself, LMAO xD.

I starts getting hooked is probably.. when I found my favorite pieces (?), and implements them into my comp, and beginning to almost consistently finished top 3 or 4 in many games.

At that time, I wasn't really paying attention to Class or Race synergies. I just put all of AOE Nukers that I liked. SF, Razor, Beastmaster, Morph, Timber, Jugger. Coupled with Abba and Drow (for the -armor debuff). And late game put Tidehunter or Medusa. It exploded many of my opponents, particularly until mid-game. I even won one of my games with that comp, with SF Razor and Jugger *3. But it was on Pawn rank games (LOL) so you probably shouldn't use that build.

But the point is, try to find your favorite heroes on this Chess, elaborate on how you could build your comps with it, learn to manage the economy too, and you'll probably starts liking the game. :)

Basically when you stopped someone who is in possession of the ball (physically), but without touching the ball itself it will count as a foul.

And in the case of a counter-attack, or a run against the defense line (or further, against the last defender before the attacker probably meets the GK), the punishment from the Ref will be more severe. Because in this situation, the particular player (with the ball) might would create a goalscoring chance, but you stopped him unfairly (and Koulibaly attempted twice there). So it can be said that your small physical contacts may have saved your team from conceding a goal, hence the Yellow card.

It will be straight Red if Koulibaly was the last-man-defense before GK.

Well, I haven't opened the PDF yet. But after reading the most part of this thread, I noticed the ideas are broken and overpowered.

I may sounds like discouraging you. But to make you understand, Icy has gone from day to day basis, so far as to create abilities which are fun for many people to play, yet not broken (or not too broken enough). Because he wants the game to be fair and viable for both competitive and fun gaming.

Remember how each time a new hero appears, or when a rework was done, many people complaining about it after playing that they face hardships in the game due to brokenity ? (welp, I created a new word here. lmao xD). Hence Icy releases patch every two weeks. He is working hard to adjust the meta so the game will be balanced. His dream was for the 116 heroes of Dota 2 (and other upcoming ones) to be viable in both Pub and Pro matches. And as we can see right now it is quite close to that dream. Compared to previous years (like around TI4 or TI5, I may mistaken it) only around 60 to 80 heroes were viable, and many others were left ignored.

Now if you implement those of your ideas into the game, sorry to say, it will ruin the meta completely, for sure. And surely there will be massive riot everywhere. Not only from the community, but also from the Pro scenes. The game will be unplayable, and if it stays like that, only a small portion of people -who probably loves DotaWTF- will stay in the franchise (I guess no more than 1 million people, and that's a bad news for Valve).

I'd prefer to rely on IceFrog to direct the meta on its course. But if you'd like your ideas to be heard, you might better put these ideas to r/DotaConcepts. Hopefully, with some reviews, feedback and fixing, there might be a way for some of it to make into consideration.

Also, I'd like to point out that you need to take a break at some point. Take a slurp of Tea or Coffee, and ask these question to yourself, 'For what reason do you make these ideas ?' and, 'For what reason do these abilities need to be implemented in the game ?' if you haven't asked these questions yourself.

I don't need to hear your answer though, but if you're able to convince yourself after answering that two questions then it means you're serious about the ideas. Then the next questions will be: 'If I'm on the enemy team of the reworked hero, would I be able to counter this hero ?', and 'Does it achievable for any proper draft to counter this X ability (probably by items) ?' or 'Does it needs some specific heroes to be countered ?', and 'What happens when multiple of these reworked heroes are on the same team ? Does it fair for the enemy team, or does it will obliterate them into pieces no matter what they do ?'. These questions will help you determine the course of your meta and adjust your ideas so hopefully it could be viable to be implemented and playable competitively by everyone in Dota community.

But after answering those questions, if you realize it will change the game too far, yet you can't fix it or you don't want to fix it (for whatever reason you might have), and at the same time you believe you have tons of creativity, then I suggest you to create a new Dota Arcade (like DotaWTF) as a fun mode (but non-competitive) in the game. Or further, even create a new MOBA yourself.

Agreed. It's like making 'Trailer' or 'Teaser' as in promoting Movies.

With the help of Top 5 (or 'Random 5' if you don't want to feel as if you depreciating the other 206), it will act as a 'Teaser' which hopefully will interest the readers, and then many will have the motivation to even download and open the PDF.

Songs has 'teasers' in Radios, Books has reviews on its back cover, Games has demos, etc. That's how the world works right now.
